2007 Vent Thread, Part 8

Brewer Fever

Yeah, that lineup sucked. It was inexcusably bad. But since "we won", I'm sure he'll play the same game again today.

In fact, let's look at his choices.

Rickie Weeks is 0-for-6 lifetime against Smoltz. Sorry, kid. Craig Counsell's OPS is over 1.000. We won't mention that it's 18 ABs, and none of them have come this year.

You, Mr. Weeks, can take a place on the bench next to fellow 0-for-6er Damian Miller.

Bill Hall is 3-for-8 with a home run against Smoltz. Guess who's playing center field today.

(Obviously, I hope I'm wrong. I hope Ned studies this a bit more closely and puts the best eight position players he can find into the lineup.)

Wearing my heart on my sleeve since birth. Hopefully, it's my only crime.

About as pathetic as it is hilarious at this point. I can't do anything but laugh anymore. Having Counsell bunt with 2 strikes is amazing, as is Cordero giving up a HR with 2 outs. But that's how the season has gone.

2008 will be better, hopefully, although as a Crew fan I wonder if I will be saying "next year" for the rest of my damn life.

We need to win out probably to have a shot at the playoffs.

Ned only screwed up three times today.

1) Hall bunting with two strikes. If he is that bad that you have to do this, bat Joe Dillon.

2) Counsell bunting with two strikes. Cause JJ did it last night doesnt mean this has to be done everytime.

3) McClung? Seth McClung? Coco has pitched a total of 11 pitches in the last 5 days, he can stay in. OR, you bring Shouse in to start the inning. He was setting up in the eighth not too long ago. Ned had confidence in him then.

Wow. Let the venting begin.

Well it was only the 2nd HR allowed by Cordero so while it stinks its hard for me to be bothered by that too much. The fact that we couldn't bring in a run from 3rd with 1 out to pad the lead that really bothers me. The fact that Yost decided to bunt which isn't a high percentage play in the first place bugs me, the fact he bunted with 2 strikes which is a horrible play really bugs me. He should have just pinch hit for Counsell but oh well.

I do think 2008 will be better because Gallardo and Villaneuva give us #2/#3 upside starters instead of having a bunch of #4/#5 guys which is what we had most of this year outside of Sheets.

I actually yelled at the TV for the first time in years today; Damian had no business swinging 3-1 at a borderline pitch at best. 1st and 3rd and we are bunting with 2 strikes. Scott Thorman, a guy with one zone he can hit in, and Coco hits it. This hurts.

The guy I'm most angry with is Miller. The pitcher almost threw a wild pitch on an IBB, then he misses badly on the first three pitches to Miller. If he's going to swing at pitch before he makes the pitcher throw two strikes, he better darn well make sure he gets a hit. If he had lined out, I wouldn't be as angry, but he popped up in the infield. Just an absolutely pathetic at bat.

I wonder if this would bother me nearly as much if we were losing the division to the Cards or Reds or Astros or Pirates

Doubtful.

What a nightmare this season has been, if it was going to be like this I'd rather switch places with St. Louis. I'm just happy I don't live in Chicago any more, I'm absolutely certain I'd have gotten into a fight by now.

I'd love to blame Yost for this. It's simple and convenient. But it's not completely accurate.

This game is a synopsis of the season. Missed opportunities. A big error. I know many will say that the Cubs got lucky and calls didn't go our way down the stetch and in a way, both statements are true. But what it boils down to, and I hate to say this, the Cubs are just a slightly better team and they are most likely going to win the division by a slight margin.

I do not want to see Yost back next season but I can't blame him entirely for this. Down the stretch, the Cubs are making plays and finding ways to win while we find ways to lose.

Man I'm upset right now.

This one really hurts. I am not going to to give up hope because we are going home to finish and the Cubs are going on the road, but man this one sucked. I cant blame Ned on this one, the players screwed this one up. If Counsell can get a bunt down, if Miller takes that pitch, if Cordero doesnt serve up a lemon ball, if McClung doesnt walk the only hitter he was going to face we probably would have. Having a hard time getting excited for the Badger game tonight. A win tommorow and and Cubs lose would be huge and I would feel much better about our chances. And Prince you can start hitting again too.

Welp that was the Final nail for the season.

What a Joke councell is hes my hero of the game...I mean 1 out and a guy on third...cant get that guy home and then strike out trying to BUNT??!!!

I saw the game being lost right there when that happend

"wait till next year"

Whatever.... Why should I wait till next year when thats the SAME bs ive been hearing year after year.

I hope the cubs do make it to the playoffs so they can CHOKE! in the first round

"I'm as angry at...Hall"

Why would you be angry at Hall? Because his 10th inning hit with a runner on 2nd was hit too hard to score the runner?

As I watched the top of the 11th, I considered Yost's best choice to pitch the bottom to be between Linebrink and Vargas. I would not have had a problem with either. I did not consider Mclung.

My anger is directed toward Cordero for allowing a game tying HR, Weeks for booting a possible DP ball, Counsell for failing to get the runner in, Miller for swinging at ball four that would have brought in a run, Mclung for walking the leadoff hitter, and last but certainly not least, Yost, for having Counsell bunt with 2 strikes in that situation, and for starting the 11th with Mclung instead of a veteran like Linebrink or Vargas and for picking Capuano to start tomorrow over Vargas.
