2007 Vent Thread, Part 8

Brewer Fever
I know Bill Hall was awful in August and has played sparingly in September, but the fact he nor Counsell got an at bat while Gwynn and Nix did is a slap in the face to everything he's done this year. Can't blame Yost for the loss because the offense didn't show up, but it was disappointing to see Hall, Counsell and Rivera rot on the bench while Gwynn and Nix were taking AB's.

sorry but this poor excuse for a contending team is not all of ned fault

Please, find me one single post that claims the Brewers struggles are ALL Ned's fault. You won't, because it's never been said. And just because he didn't do anything ridiculous tonight, how does that make all of the other times more excusable? Should we be happy if he only hinders the chance of victory 2-3 times a week rather than every single game? It's still completely unacceptable.

Even the most aggressive Yost bashers simply feel that he doesn't put the team in the best position to win often enough. It sounds minor, but in pennant races that come to to 1 or 2 games, it is extremely important. The manager can be the difference between making a missing the playoffs.

The thing about it, as I've said before, is that they'll actually (I think...) meet my hopes for the season--a winning record and contending til the last week.

But what a roundabout, crummy way to do it. Man.

And to the worst possible team, too. The Ramirez walkoff game and the Uecker boo game have soldered the hate in my heart for all things Cub from here 'til eternity.

I agree there are a few games I know that bad thinking from ned has costed the brewers games...before it was no big deal cuz the brewers were never here at this stage.....and now that they are it makes a huge difference

I have bashed Ned but the Players need to perform

Why does it have to be one or the other? Shouldn't a team try to have both things going for them? Obviously the players need to perform, but other teams have players that are paid to perform as well. The talent levels are all very close, and that's why there are a lot of tight baseball games that can hinge on a few key managerial decisions to make the difference between a win and a loss.

doug maybe if the team (Players don:t blow those big leads and if this team was just mediocre on the Road we would not be down to having a close pennant Race I have bashed Ned but the Players need to perform

ive always said that its the managers job to knwo when i guy is not preforming....usually the pitchers. Tonights loss wasnt not in any means neds fault though, but there have been many this season that have been. remember Bush being left in the game to long to hang himself at the start of the season? wish you could have a few of those starts back? I do ...thats just to name a few

I just watched the game in fast-forward. If I'm not mistaken, I saw Gwynn pinch hit somewhat late in the game with a runner on. When we were down by two. Is there a logical explanation? When we need someone to tie things up with one swing of the bat? (A feat Gwynn could only achieve at Halfaer) Every other hitter except Stocker was used up??

That has always been my biggest fear as far as Ned was concerned. The past few years, injuries and lack of talent have been the main reasons for the Brewers struggles. However, even amongst that, it was still quite clear to me (and some others) that he made far too many poor decisions. Illogical choices and bad baseball philosophy seemed to appear very often. He seemed to be putting the team in positions to lose. For example, he refused to use Cordero for 10 straight days (a 10 game losing streak, I believe), when many of the games were close. Stuff like that was a huge red flag in my eyes, and lo and behold, he hasn't changed his approach at all and that very issue has become a real problem again this year.

The team stunk last year anyway, but he never helped. He was given a free pass last year due to all the injuries.

I wanted Yost to be replaced in the worst way this last offseason. I felt like the team was getting talented enough that Ned's tactical blunders could become very meaningful. I was probably one of the most outspoken critics of Ned's, but was repeatedly told that I just had an irrational hatred for him, and was reminded incessantly that injuries were the reason for the collapse last year (even though I never blamed Ned for the really poor overall 2006 record). This year, we seem to have by far the most talented team in the division. I feel that my worst Brewer fear is coming true, that Ned will hold them back from being a playoff team. I really, really hope Ned Yost is not our manager in 2008.

Yost PH Mench for Jenkins, Cox brought in Yates. Yost used Gwynn instead of Hall, Counsell, Estrada, or Rivera.

Then Lanyce Nix pinch hit for Miller, leaving Hall, Counsell, Estrada, and Rivera on the bench. Gotta love our manager. http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/happy.gif

Lefty, righty matchups would be my guess.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Definitely. The Nix decision annoyed me more than the Gwynn decision, but eh. Like I said earlier, this one wasn't really on Yost.

This board and and a lot of the members on it are ridiculous.. I get banned just because I say when I think a game is over... WT heck happened to free speech. There was a post in Thursday nights forum said that he has decided to "put a fork in this season" if he/she is not banned from this site, there is a double standard of disgusting proportion.
