I don't know if Yost is trying to make me hate him but yesterday got to me. I've been slow to bash Yost because frankly I think he does a pretty good job but yesterday has me thinking twice. Among some of the horrible decision Yost made last night was pulling Braun out of the game in the seventh and you also don't allow Brian Shouse to pitch to Mark Loretta. It felt like Yost was trying to lose last night.

I'm saying that Yost is smart enough to realize that the odds were that Dillon wasn't going to get a hit. Chances are that Bush wouldn't need to run. Playing the odds isn't exactly stupid.

Of course, you forgot that The Beard reached base with one out. That means Ned was assuming that neither Weeks nor Dillon would do anything to make Bush run. As I said, if the top of our order is so terrible, maybe we should try different people.

Wearing my heart on my sleeve since birth. Hopefully, it's my only crime.

They were in position to win last night, 2 runs off a rookie pitcher is no fault of the manager. Yes there were questionable moves down the stretch last night, however they shouldn't have been in that position to begin with. It's still only one game, we couldn't honestly expect to have won out, could we?

My point is that Yost couldn't have possibly known that Dave was going to run the bases.

????

Unless you are saying that Yost is too stupid to comprehend that a batter like Dillon hitting after Bush would force him to run?

It might be if you are playing the odds to fail. That would seem pretty stupid to me. Playing the odds that a batter won't get a hit?!?! Is that your argument?

"My second half has been something to forget. It's a snowball effect I fight mentally every day. I'm trying everything I can to fix the problem but the results aren't there."
Quote from Matt Wise in the JS. This is the guy we want out there in the 10th inning in a tie game when we need a win to keep pace on the 19th of September?

So, we were Yosted, because he pitched Turnbow 2 days ago in a 7-1 game.

Why wasn't Wise used then?!??!??

No, better save Wise for a tie game, and use up Turnbow (who's terrible on no rest this year) for no reason at all.

Oh, and clearly the right choice in an extra inning game (who knows how long its going) was probably Capuano.

*sigh*

Wise is a head case. He's a really cool guy though in real life. It would be great if he can get out of his funk.

Back to the point. I have to agree that if Bush was questionably gassed, then if he got on base with 1 OUT, why on earth not PR for him? He's more then likely going to have to run 90 feet unless we get 2 Ks. He ran 90 extra feet, how can 90 extra feet go from effective to ineffective? Yost DID do a smart thing by pulling Bush before he served meatballs dijour, but did a BAD BAD thing by not PR him. He's to a bench full of 2 speedsters who will probably never see the light of day in the field till we are eliminated, use them for their roll. PR and DR when needed.

I think Shocker, TGJ could have scored, if Bush can get to 3rd standing.

Yost's use of Wise the last few months is what really has me puzzled. Wise seems to only get the ball in higher-pressure situations. Don't you want to do the opposite? Set him up to succeed and restore his confidence? Might as well ruin him so that Ned can pick him up next year while he's managing a minor league team.

The whole idea of Turnbow pitching Tuesday blows me away. That's when Wise, Aquino, McClung, Stetter, and Spurling should pitch. Turnbow's ERA on the second part of back-to-back games is over 8. Sick.

A friend and I were puzzled when Turnbow came into the game Tuesday. I went on tp predict us blowing a lead Wednesday because of it.

This whole thing turns my stomach. If we make the playoffs, it's in spite of Ned, not because we have him.

We'd have a 6 game lead if Yost wasn't our manager.

I have a couple of other rants here too.

1. Why did we trade for Ray King? So we can use Stetter in pressure situations? I don't mind Mitch Stetter, but using him over King confuses me considering we traded for King.

2. Why was Hunter Pence pitched to? If you fill the bases you can bring the outfield and infield in and possibly catch a ball like Pence hit. Puting a force at all bases is a pretty basic step towards getting out of the 10th not scored upon.

3. And finally, with runners at first and third, why not bring in a strikeout pitcher with one out. Or a pitcher witha good slider so you can turn a double play. Wise does neither. Cordero does both.

How long do we have to put up with Ned?

The obligation of the manager is to put players in the situation to succeed. Ned Yost is simply not fulfilling his obligation.

Edit; woops wrong thread, but since it is a vent as well, I'll keep it here too.

To be fair, it's exteremely difficult to tell them apart as of late.

It's disgusting. Pete Mackanin did the EXACT same thing in the first game of the Cubs series. Ramirez at 3rd nobody out so he walks Darryl Ward to make it 1st and 3rd with nobody out and then pitches to Mark DeRosa. It would've served Ned right if Pence hit a slow roller along 3rd, Counsell threw home but it was late because a tag had to be applied instead of a force out.

Basically. Do you think that a manager should manage the game expecting his players to succeed in every situation? Hitters are going to fail more than they succeed. A manager should know that and manage accordingly. I'm sure Ned was hoping Dillon would get a hit, but he realized that Dillon probably wouldn't.

brewers should not blame ned It not his fault his team only gets 6 hits aganist a career minor league pitcher is one of the most must win games of the year

As soon as the Brewers assemble a team that always scores lots of runs and never gives up many runs, then the manager would never have to make meaningful decisions. I guess in that case, Yost can stay for all I care. Unfortunately, the job of a manager is to make good decisions when his team isn't playing perfect baseball. Good decisions can help a team win a close game. I thought it was pretty well-known that this was a big part of a manager's responsibilities, but apparently some people think that is too much of a burden to expect Ned to handle?
