2007 Vent Thread, Part 8

Brewer Fever

The point I am making is, we don't know why Braun didn't play yesterday and I was just curious to see what people thought if that was the case.

I am guessing Yost just wanted to give Braun a day off (which is crap) and I think it has nothing to do with that double steal on Saturday or him showing up late on Sunday. But if he did show up late, I would bench him without a doubt.

I agree 100% If you're late and you hurt the team, you can sit.

What is with this team? Maybe its because i want them to lose every time they are down, so every time they are down and come back and win it stands out more....but lately it seems like they have been winning a TON of close games and games late with clutch hitting or maybe just bad opposing pitching. This is becoming increasingly frustrating to watch because it seems like they are winning a lot of games that they shouldn't. At any rate, i officially and literally hate the cubs.

I was at the bar watching the sports ticker on espn. I knew the Brewers had won, and was waiting for the cubs score. We were all giving a Cubs fan crap because we figured they lost. OOOOOPS. Stupid Cubs, and stupid Jason and friends for jinxing the game

and I just had another vent come up. this could go either here or the ESPN thread. Do they have to use the phrase "something brewin" every time the crew does well for a few games in row. They have used it about 10 times this year. Can't the ESPN guys come up with something else?

On the other side of that overplayed ESPN coin, whenever the Brewers are in a collective slump they use the phrase "Strange Brew." Both phrases are irritating and stopped being clever in May.

Not surprising since ESPN stopped being clever at least a decade ago.

I blame Wang.

I can't believe I found this thread halfway down the page. I can't remember wanting to vent more. The Brewers were three outs from a tie for first and basically a 50-50 shot at the division. Instead David Weathers walks a terrible hitter to lead off the inning. Now it's probably a 30% shot. LAME!!

Maybe I'm just being picky but this is from the JSonline blog written by Tom Haudricourt.

One thing that has become apparent in the closing weeks of the season is that young right-handers Carlos Villanueva and Gallardo will be in the starting rotation at the start of the 2008 season.
Okay no argument from me here.

Toss in veteran holdovers Ben Sheets and Jeff Suppan and you've got four-fifths of your rotation.
Yeah I agree with this too.

That will leave the Brewers to decide if left-hander Chris Capuano is salvageable after losing his last 16 starts and being banished to the bullpen,
Ah yes it wouldn't be Tom if he wasn't talking about Capuano losing his last 16 starts.

or if they should go with young lefty Manny Parra or right-hander Claudio Vargas, who spent most of the season in the rotation.
So did Dave Bush disappear from the face of the earth?

So did Dave Bush disappear from the face of the earth?

We can only hope.

One of Vargas/Cappy/Bush will be #5 --the other 2 could potentially give us some solid bullpen depth -- especially if we assume Linebrink and Cordero are gone. The other option would be to move them in trades.

How many 8th and 9th inning comebacks have the cubs had this year?

They lost a lot of close games like this to start the year. -- They have had their bad luck as well.

I am aware...just lately it seems like they have won every game from behind. No lead seems safe to these guys. I was blowing off steam more than anything. Thanks for the reminder thoughhttp://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/happy.gif Without there horrible start they would be far ahead of us.

This is one of those "things even out" cases. I wish some things would stay lopsided.

This was the last straw for me. I'm not counting on him anymore. If he can stay healthy, wonderful, but I am through believing that he can. This is the most crucial time of the year for us, and after being ineffective in his last 2 starts, he broke down again.

I am really sick and tired of Sheets being about as reliable as a thin sheet of plexiglass. I have tried to stick by him, but enough is ENOUGH. I don't care how many innings he threw in '04 and before that, his reliability then obviously wasn't a very good predictor of future health, because he hasn't been remotely reliable in 3 years.

If he can't get a full healthy season under his belt in '08, let him walk rather than give him a huge extension. No matter how good he can be, we can't continue to rely on him when he's like this.
