2007 Vent Thread, Part 8

Brewer Fever

Well, I have officially lost all interest in making it to the playoffs. The manager absolutely disgusts me, the bullpen disgusts me, and the front office is starting to frustrate me by tolerating this idiot manager. The players all know there is a problem and it's disappointing that they are all remaining silent like obedient little sheep.

Maybe I am emotional right now, but my anger at this game is overshadowing the disappointment of virtually being eliminated for the 25th season in a row. Congrats to the Cubs. It really doesn't bother me now. I am more angry at Ned than I am heartbroken.

If the manager and front office doesn't care, then it's hard to feel for them. They should have fired that moron Yost a long time ago when it was clear this wasn't working.

I also want to vent on the media. We constantly were told that there is more second guessing because there are more bloggers, websites, chat rooms, and sports radio talk than before. We were told that more people are watching now and that is why there is more criticism. We were told that hindsight is 20-20. We were told that the manager is a genius when the moves work and goat when it doesn't work. We were told that it's a long season of ups and downs. We were told that we were spoiled by the hot start.

These are all lies. We all saw the problems clearly and it's a shame that nobody paid attention and took us seriously. The fans aren't dumb and now it's becoming even more obvious.

It just really makes me sick when the people in the stands seem to have more of a clue than the guy in the dugout running the team.

HOW THE HELL DOES TURNBOW WALK MIGUEL FREAKING CAIRO AND KELLY FREAKING STINNETT??

Because that's what Turnbow does.

If we had a competent manager who understood this, there would have been a pitching change. I mean, every person in Milwaukee knew he would walk in a run. But the guys who are paid to be experts couldn't see the red flags. They just kept him in there.

That's why we aren't going to the postseason.

Yeah, no kidding. This just in....Turnbow has control issues. The way he's been throwing lately, it would be shock if he didn't walk any one of us, let alone a big leaguer. You would think they'd seen enough of him but I guess not. Who's our manager again?

"The ball just got away from me," said McClung, one of the hardest throwers on the team. "It's not the first guy I've hit. Why do you think Tampa traded me?"
That's the right attitude.

I think every player and coach on the Brewers roster should be put under a gag order for the rest of the season. Every time one of them opens their mouth, it just becomes more and more evident that the team is littered with donkeys.

This whole entire stretch run has become sickening to me. I am utterly speechless as to why things have turned out the way they turned out. We once had a 24-10 record and now we are clinging to whatever glimmer of hope is left to make the post-season. I would anticipate something being done on Oct. 1 when we sink to a 25 year low without a post-season appearance.

Doesn't the front office usually have an "end of the season press report?"

And when Mark A. was questioned about Ned's job security, he gave him a "vote of confidence." This is a total kiss of death right there. That statement essentially means, "We will examine this in the offseason and if he doesn't help the team get into the playoffs, you can consider him fired."

This series really ticked me off. To have a total power struggle between LaRussa and Yost about retaliation against each others' players, it became a total mess. LaRussa knew the Brewers weren't going to charge the mound because of the implications involved, so he basically continued to beat up the Brewers because of our playoff chances. The Cardinals have nothing to play for, so they can do whatever they want.

To top it off, it was Prince as the target of the Cardinals staff. This was an absolutely atrocious series and an atrocious way of managing by both teams.

Wow. a GOLDEN opportunity to move within a game of the Cubs with 4 games left to play, gone. :-( I suppose I really don't have a vent other than seeing a blown opportunity. But, Turnbow has developed a very disturbing trend. HE CAN'T THROW A SLIDER OR CURVEBALL any longer. I swear he threw nothing but fastballs tonight. When it was 1st and 2nd with 2 out he had the man 1-2. I am saying to myself as I was watching throw him a SLIDER! One of two things would have happened, he would have froze the guy looking or made him swing to save his life. Neither happened as he or the catcher (calling the pitch) decided to ask for another 94 mph fastball that missed by a mile. We all know what happened from there on out. Sigh....

Tough night for sure. The Crew just has to go out and beat the snot out of a no-name pitcher tomorrow night and pray the Fish get a Sweep. ugh.

I don't think he threw one at all. The pitch speeds were consistently 92-96 mph for all of his pitches. I know for a fact, he throws the bender (slider) at 86-87 mph. AUGH! Why are the Brewers doing this to all of us??!!! To wait so long and to make us suffer more.

Whew! That felt good to get out of my system. :-)

I could not say it any better, Ajay.

Last night's game was a summary of this entire frustrating season. Right on the doorstep of a sweep and really putting the pressure on Chicago. Just hunker down and get the win, right?

Well, what do you get? You get the best hitter with RISP leaving 34 people on base. You get 5 errors in one inning and one run. You get a questionable move by the manager that probably lead to critical runs. You get a bullpen implosion. You get a ball hit to center that probably should have been caught. You get a loss and YOU GET YOUR HOPES CRUSHED.

I really believed they were going to pull it out. I thought that somehow this team was going to dig down and play solid from top to bottom for one week.

But now? Now I think THEY ARE WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE!

I hate that I have to face the fact that they're just not that good. I'd love to pin this season on Yost. It'd be easy but as I've watched them squander away the lead in an AWFUL division, I've come to the conclusion that they're just not good enough right now.

So after 6 months of living and breathing Brewers baseball. Of dreaming. Of believing. I have to walk away with that same uneasy, unsatisfied feeling I've had MY ENTIRE LIFE WITH THIS TEAM.

It was kind of fun, though.

Both Larussa and Yost should be suspended by MLB. Pujols and Fielder are both MVP type players that the fans come to see play. The managers should not be using them as pawns in their faux bravado escapades. What would we think about this "unwritten baseball rule" if one of the two players involved would've been hit in the eye with a pitch? It disgusts me when managers believe they are more important than they are. Larussa is a tool, but unfortunately in this case he got the better of Yost. He was able to bait our manager into a game that ultimately could cost us a playoff spot. Bringing in Turnblow with a man on base is suicidal. Leaving him in with the bases loaded is absolute lunacy. Unfortunately, as Ants has already stated, we will have our Yost Infection for at least another year.

Just seems like everyone is forgetting the fact...

We were down one run entering the 8th. We didn't score in the 8th or the 9th. (or come close for that matter) Turnbow imploded. Throwing at Pujols was pretty dumb.

But we would have lost that game anyways.

That number under 9 for the Milwaukee line (the Brewers!) is not a zero ("0").

From the Journal Sentinel: "We still have math on our side," insisted Brewers manager Ned Yost.

In a couple of years here, I've resisted the temptation to add a signature line, but this might be too good to pass up.

That is rather good signature material right there.
