Link Report for Sat. 8/24 - DSL Season Concludes

Mass Haas

Final: @Albuquerque 12, Nashville 7

Five Nashville players had multi-hit nights, & every position player in the lineup recorded a hit, but even that wasn't enough offense to overcome the Isotopes in this one. A near hour and a half rain delay complicated things in this fourth game of the five-game series.

Starter Aaron Laffey was touched for 8 runs (all earned) on 11 hits over 4 innings. The Sounds actually ran out to a 4-2 lead after adding 1 run in the top of the 3rd to the 3 they'd scored in the 1st. Unfortunately, that didn't last long. Albuquerque tied the game in the home half of the 3rd & effectively chased Laffey with 4 more in the 4th. Nashville scored in both the 7th & 8th innings, but the Isotopes answered in both frames -- and even managed to extend their margin to 5 runs before this one concluded.

Eugenio Velez kept his hitting streak alive -- now at 13 games -- with a 2-5 night that included the Sounds' only HR. Kentrail Davis, Blake Lalli, Josh Prince, & pinch-hitter Robinzon Diaz each joined Velez with 1 RBI apiece. Blake Davis's 7th inning double was the only other extra-base hit for the Sounds.

5 of Nashville's 7 runs were plated by means other than hits. Unfortunately, what that also means is that the Sounds squandered several chances to score a lot more.

Reliever Johnnie Lowe kept the Isotopes off the scoreboard in the 5th & 6th innings, facing one hitter over the minimum. He was basically the lone bright spot in terms of pitching last night.

The Sounds travel on to Oklahoma City (HOU affiliate) for a 4-game series starting Monday, before returning home for their final 4 games of the season (against the Iowa Cubs).

-Tony Gwynn reaches on a throwing error by second baseman Eugenio Velez.

-With Dee Gordon batting, Tony Gwynn steals (11) 2nd base.

-Elian Herrera grounds out, second baseman Eugenio Velez to first baseman Hunter Morris. Tony Gwynn to 3rd.

-Pitching Change: Kyle Heckathorn replaces Travis Webb, batting 9th.

-Kyle Heckathorn intentionally walks Scott Van Slyke.

-Alex Castellanos homers (19) on a fly ball to left field. Tony Gwynn scores. Scott Van Slyke scores.

-Nick Buss walks.

-Brian Barden pops out to shortstop Blake Davis.

Kentrail Davis has really found his groove at AAA, posting an OPS of .886 over his last 10 games -- including four consecutive 0-4 games! In his most recent four games, he's a combined 8-18 (.444) with two HR & five RBI.

Audio from Albuquerque — Tim Dillard & Friends

"Entering Saturday night’s game in Albuqueurque, the Sounds have lost six consecutive games, including a heart-breaker on Friday night. So, I made an executive decision to take a break from the standard pregame interview and created a Sounds baseball panel: Tim Dillard, Donovan Hand, Sean Halton and Fred Dabney. In reality, it’s impersonator extraordinaire Dillard “joined by” the other three. If you haven’t laughed yet (or enough) today, enjoy…"

Really hope the Brewers can find a place for him after his playing days are done. Such a funny dude bro.

Earlier this season (right after Dillard set the Sounds' career wins record), Jeff mentioned that he had plans for another Dillard interview. Totally delivered. I was in tears at a couple points.

Orlando Arcia has to have set an all-time professional baseball record for number of times going 1-4 in a season. I swear he goes 1-4 about 20% of the time.

Meh, it's probably more like 25% of the time.
