Between Brad and myself, we'll try to highlight the exploits of the 2013 Dominican Summer League Brewers over the next couple of days, but to be honest, it won't take long.

It's been a pretty underwhelming year.

But then again, we don't remember a lot of anticipation to see 2B Francisco Castillo and RF Elvis Rubio in Maryvale this summer, yet both players look to have value, in particular Rubio (he might begin 2014 in Wisconsin next April as a 19-year-old, that'd be something).

The DSL Brewers are 24-46, here's how they did against their three division opponents with Saturday's game against the Braves pending.

Braves 4-11

Blue Jays 6-9

Tigers 3-13

Final: Huntsville 2 Mississippi 0

The Huntsville Stars turned the tables on the Mississippi Braves and delivered their own 2-0 shutout Saturday night. The Stars got 5 shutout innings from starter Andy Moye. Over those 5 innings, Moye (6-14, 4.00) gave up 4 hits, no walks and struck out 3. In the process, he lowered his ERA to an even 4. Moye is facing an innings limit through the end of the season otherwise he would have continued on as he only threw 64 pitches, 40 for strikes in earning his 6th win on the season. Moye also put up a 5-3 GO/FO ratio.

The Stars then got 4 innings of 1 hit relief from their bullpen. Arcenio Leon pitched a scoreless 6th, allowing a hit and a walk. David Goforth was especially impressive tonight. He worked 2 scoreless innings, 6 up, 6 down. He recorded 2 strike outs and hit 98 on the radar gun! His family was in town for the game so perhaps he was a little amped up? Finally, Kevin Shackelford came on to close things out. He pitched a scoreless 9th, walking 1 and striking out 1. It was Shackelford's 5th save on the season. His ERA now sits at 1.07 (3 earned runs in 25 1/3 innings).

Huntsville Box Score

For the 9th straight game, the Stars were held to 2 runs or less. Tonight, both runs scored in the 5th, thanks to a booming home run from Jason Rogers. Rogers also singled in the first and drew a walk in the 9th to reach base 3 times. Rogers is tied for the league lead in home runs at 21 and leads the league in RBI's with 84. With the 2 hits, Jason pushed his average back to .270.

Also collecting 2 hits tonight was shortstop Hector Gomez and second baseman Nick Shaw. Gomez went 2-4 with a double and Shaw was 2-5 with 2 singles. Chadwin Stang went 1-4 with a double and pitcher Andy Moye had the Stars other extra base hit, going 1-2 with a double and a run scored. Shea Vucinich had the Stars other hit, a bunt single in the 6th. Right fielder Brock Kjeldgaard didn't record a hit, but did draw 2 walks, increasing his team lead to 64. Pitcher David Goforth drew a 4 pitch walk in the 9th.

Cougars charge past Wisconsin 5-3

Rattlers can't hold lead and fall in series opener

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

GRAND CHUTE, WI - The chances were there for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Saturday night against the Kane County Cougars. But, the Cougars were the team that cashed in for the 5-3 victory at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The loss also cost Wisconsin a chance to pick up ground in the Western Division Wild Card race.

Opportunity knocked for the Timber Rattlers (56-70 overall, 27-34 second half) in the bottom of the second inning. But, they could not score despite three consecutive hits to start the inning. Victor Roache started the inning with a ground rule double to center. Mike Garza followed with a single up the middle and Roache tried to score. The throw home from Oliver Zapata was in time to get Roache for the first out. Parker Berberet was at the plate when a pitch trickled away from Kane County catcher Wilson Contreras. Garza took off for second and got hung up between first and second as Contreras quickly recovered the baseball. Garza was tagged up in the rundown for the second out. Berberet, who had three hits in the game, singled later in the at bat for Wisconsin's third straight hit. Kane County starting pitcher Tayler Scott got the next batter on a grounder to first to end the inning.

The Cougars (52-74, 22-38) took the lead in the next half inning. Trevor Gretzky tripled with one out in the top of the third inning. Gioskar Amaya got Gretzky home with a sacrifice fly and the Cougars led 1-0. That was the only run Preston Gainey gave up in his five innings of work.

The Rattlers got going offensively in the bottom of the fifth inning. Berberet singled and Max Walla walked to start the frame. The Cougars were expecting Orlando Arcia to bunt, but the Wisconsin shortstop chopped a single over the head of the third baseman to load the bases. Alfredo Rodriguez was at the plate when a passed ball let Berberet score to tie the game. Rodriguez put the Rattlers up 3-1 with a two-run double.

The Cougars went back in front in the top of the seventh inning against reliever Ryan Gibbard. Jose Dore started the inning with a triple to right. Brad Zapenas drove in Dore with a sacrifice fly to cut Wisconsin's lead to a single run.

Kane County had a runner at first with two outs after a single and a force out at second base. Zapata stepped in and tripled to knock in the runner from first to tie the game. Then, Jeimer Candelario followed with a single to right against Gibbard to give Kane County a 4-3 lead.

Giuseppe Papaccio extended Kane County's advantage to 5-3 with a solo home run in the eighth inning off Ryan Fasano.

Wisconsin attempted to stage a rally in the bottom of the ninth inning against Stephen Perakslis. Alfredo Rodriguez singled with one out and Michael Reed drew a walk to bring the winning run to the plate. But, Perakslis got the final two outs of the game with a strikeout and a popup to deal a serious blow to the Rattlers playoff chances.

The Rattlers had an opportunity to gain a game on the Clinton LumberKings, the second half Wild Card leaders. Clinton lost 7-4 at Beloit. But, Wisconsin's loss keeps them four games behind Clinton with nine games remaining in the regular season.

Game two of the series is Sunday afternoon. Rodolfo Fernandez (3-3, 2.63) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin. Kane County sends Starling Peralta (2-1, 4.63) to the mound. Game time is 1:05pm.

Sunday is a full day at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. McClone Insurance and the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers are holding their annual Strike Out Cancer Day. A portion of each ticket bought at the Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium Box Office on Sunday will aid families in Northeast Wisconsin who are battling pediatric cancer. Shear Chaos Salon will be at the park to cut hair for Locks of Love, too.

Fans may play catch on the field for thirty minutes starting at noon and Timber Rattlers players will be available for an autograph session on the third base concourse after the game.

Also, Time Warner Cable customers can receive up to four half-priced reserved bleacher tickets when showing their TWC bill at time of ticket purchase.

Sunday is the final Brewers Sunday presented by 107.5, The Fan. Timber Rattlers players and coaches will be wearing their Brewers-themed jerseys during the game for the final time this season. Jerseys will be up for bid in a live auction after the game. Proceeds from the auction will benefit Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.

If you can't make it out to the ballpark, tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM or IHeartRadio starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 12:40pm. Sunday's game is also available to subscribers of MiLB.TV.

something about seeing Jalen Harris have hit avg approaching .300 makes me smile. I really hope the utility infielder can build on his solid season and earn a starting job somewhere next year. It would be really inspirational for so many if he made the big leagues

VIERA, Fla. - Six runs in the third inning propelled the Brevard County Manatees to an 8-1, series-clinching victory over the Dunedin Blue Jays on Saturday night at Space Coast Stadium.

The six runs for Brevard (27-31 second half, 64-61 overall) matched the highest run production in a single frame this season. The 'Tees also scored six runs in the eighth inning at home on August 9, en route to an 8-2 win over the Tampa Yankees.

The big inning featured two walks, three singles and an error before a single out was recorded. Nick Ramirez, Mitch Haniger and Cody Hawn picked up a RBI each to make it a 3-0 game.

The first two outs - ground outs by Greg Hopkins and T.J. Mittelstaedt - brought in a run each before Ben McMahan tripled to right to plate the final run of the inning, in the form of Hawn.

McMahan's triple spelled the end of the night for Dunedin (22-34, 59-63) starting pitcher Aaron Sanchez who was charged with all six runs - three earned - in 2.2 innings. Sanchez surrendered five hits and four walks, while recording three strikeouts.

Two more runs scored in the fourth behind another two singles and two walks, with Hopkins' bases-loaded infield hit sending both runs across the plate.

Hopkins finished with three RBI, while McMahan, Yadiel Rivera and Cameron Garfield had two hits each. Both Rivera and Haniger scored twice.

In his fifth Major League rehab start for the Manatees, Mark Rogers tossed four scoreless innings and allowed just two hits and two walks with a pair of strikeouts.

Dunedin scored its only run in the seventh, when Matt Newman led off the inning with a home run off of Matt Miller. Despite allowing the shot, Matt Miller earned the win out of the bullpen. The homer was one of just three hits he allowed in his three innings of work, as he struck out one batter and walked another.

The home run was the first run allowed by the Manatees' bullpen, after tossing 21 straight scoreless innings over the last three games.

Dunedin and Brevard County meet for the final time in the 2013 regular season on Sunday evening at 5:05 p.m. Manatees' southpaw Brent Suter (7-8, 3.14 ERA) will be opposed by another southpaw in John Anderson (5-3, 2.47 ERA) for the Blue Jays.

Moye, Stars Hurlers Shutout M-Braves

By Alex Cohen / Huntsville Stars

One night after being shut out for the second time in three nights, the Huntsville Stars returned the favor and blanked the Mississippi Braves by a score of 2-0 on Saturday night at Trustmark Park.

Starting pitcher Andy Moye began the shutout for the Stars hurlers, tossing five scoreless innings while giving up just four hits to improve to 6-14 on the year. Dating back to his last three starts, Moye has just given up 2 ER in 17 IP, dropping his ERA to 4.00 on the season.

The victory for Moye and the shutout was secured by an inning of scoreless relief from righty Arcenio Leon, two perfect innings from Mississippi-native David Goforth and a scoreless ninth from righty Kevin Shackelford.

For Shackelford, the save was his fifth on the year. In 17 appearances this season with the Stars, the former college catcher has given up just three earned runs in 25.1 innings pitched.

On offense, the Stars got all the run support they needed with one swing of the bat in the top of the fifth inning. After Moye helped out his own cause with a leadoff double against M-Braves starter Ian Thomas, first baseman Jason Rogers launched a two-run homer over the left-field foul pole to give Huntsville a 2-0 lead.

AUDIO: Jason Rogers drives in the game's only runs with one swing

The homer for Rogers gives him 21 roundtrippers on the season, tying him for the Southern League lead with Chattanooga Lookouts outfielder Joc Pederson. In addition to being tied for the league home run lead, his 84 runs batted in also leads the Southern League.

Aside from Rogers, the Stars were led offensively by two hits apiece from shortstop Hector Gomez and second baseman Nick Shaw. On the series, the Stars are outhitting the M-Braves by an 18-to-12 margin.

In regards to shutouts, this was the Stars' ninth time they've held an opponent scoreless in a game this season and the second time in the last week. Four of the last nine games overall for the Stars have involved either a shutout victory or a shutout loss.

On Sunday, the Stars will play game three of a five-game set against the Mississippi Braves at Trustmark Park. Huntsville will send RHP Taylor Jungmann (9-9, 4.14 ERA) while Mississippi will counter with RHP Aaron Northcraft (7-8, 3.54 ERA).

Jungmann is the second ranked prospect in the Brewers organization while Northcraft is the tenth ranked prospect in the Braves organization.

First pitch is at 5:00 PM.
