DSL Brewers 3B Sthervin Matos (8/10) and OF Yunior Santana (8/13) have missed several games now.

Both players left immediately after an HBP. Santana was one of two DSL Brewer All-Stars after a hot first month, but had slipped badly after.

Santana came back Wednesday, missed a week, which would match a 7-day concussion DL stint if indeed it was a head injury on the HBP.

In addition to Baez, the Cubs' Brett Jackson, whose career is spiraling downwards, is discussed.

Via Lakeland:

Tonight's double header has been postponed/cancelled. There will be a double header in Brevard on Monday.

It seems more specifically, one of the two games will be made up as part of that Monday twinbill, and the other game will be cancelled.

Catching up from yesterday's Manatees twitter feed --

"No Brevard County players named to the FSL Post-Season All-Star Team. First time since '04 that the 'Tees haven't had a player on the team.

Also marks the first season since the 'Tees have been affiliated with the Brewers, that Brevard doesn't have a FSL Post-Season All-Star."

Casey Medlen worked a 1-2-3 9th to earn his 8th save of the season.

Huntsville Box Score

They were led by left fielder Eric Patterson. Patterson went 3-4 with a double and a run score. His double was the first, and only, extra base hit the Stars would have in this series. Third baseman Mike Walker went 2-4 tonight, the only other batter with more than 1 hit in tonight's game. First baseman Jason Rogers was 1-3 with a walk and his league leading 82nd RBI. Shortstop Hector Gomez scored the Stars other run tonight. He ended the game going 1-3. Catcher Shawn Zarraga had the Stars other base hit tonight. Shea Vucinich and Brock Kjeldgaard each drew a walk for Huntsville.

Final: Wisconsin 8, Clinton 5

Big night for Roache leads Rattlers to win in Clinton

Rattlers slugger gets four hits, drives in four, and collects 21st homer of the season

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

CLINTON, IA - Victor Roache had a huge night for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers when the team needed it. The slugging outfielder went 4-for-5 with a homer, a double, and four RBI to pace Wisconsin to an 8-5 win over the Clinton LumberKings Thursday night at Ashford University Field. The win snapped Wisconsin's three-game losing streak and kept the team on the fringe of the playoff chase.

Dario Pizzano put Clinton (64-64 overall, 31-28 second half) in front in the bottom of the first inning. He doubled high off the wall in left-center to drive in Alfredo Morales from first base with one out. Tyler Marlette doubled with two outs to knock in Pizzano, but was out at third as he tried to stretch his hit into a triple.

Wisconsin (55-69, 26-33) answered with a run in the top of the second inning. Orlando Arcia singled with two outs to drive Max Walla home from second base.

Garrett Cooper extended the top of the third inning with a two-out single. Then, Roache unloaded with a home run to center. The homer was the 21st of the season for Roache and put the Rattlers in front 3-2. Roache has tied Matt Hagen (2003) and Juan Silvestre (1999) for second on the franchise single season home run list. Current Brewers outfielder Khris Davis holds the Timber Rattlers single season home run record with 22. Davis set the mark in the 2010 season.

Roache drove in another run in the top of the fifth inning. His two-out single to center scored Tyrone Taylor from third base.

The Rattlers maintained that 4-2 lead until the bottom of the sixth.

Gaby Guerrero reached on a single with one out. Janelfry Zorilla followed with a long home run to left field to tie the game 4-4. Rattlers starting pitcher Jorge Lopez got the second out in the sixth, but fell behind Brock Hebert 2-0. The Clinton shortstop lined the next pitch over the wall in left for his first home run of the season. That gave Clinton a 5-4 advantage.

Wisconsin stormed back in the top of the seventh. Tyrone Taylor singled and Michael Reed walked to start the inning against lefty Blake Holovach. A sacrifice bunt by Mike Garza put Rattlers on second and third. Clinton brought right-hander Richard Vargas in to face Cooper and Roache. The strategy did not work.

Cooper smacked the first pitch from Vargas through the drawn-in infield into right field to score both Taylor and Reed to put Wisconsin up 6-5. Cooper took second base on an errant throw to the plate. Roache followed with a double into the corner in right to drive in Cooper. Later in the inning Roache scored on a passed ball to put the Rattlers up 8-5.

Rattlers reliever Jono Armold, who got the final out of the bottom of the sixth, got the first out in the bottom of the seventh. A single and a walk brought the tying run to the plate. Armold got the second out on a fly ball to leave the runners where they were. Gaby Guerrero was next and he worked the count full. Guerrero lined the payoff pitch from Armold for what looked like a sure hit down the right field line. But, Cooper made a leaping grab to rob Guerrero and end the inning.

Armold pitched a perfect eighth inning and turned the ball over to Hobbs Johnson for the ninth.

Johnson, the 14th round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2013 draft, retired the side in order in the bottom of the ninth with a pair of strikeouts for his first save with the Timber Rattlers.

The win moved Wisconsin back to within five games of the LumberKings for the second half Western Division Wild Card with eleven games remaining in the regular season.

Game three of the series - and the final game of Wisconsin's seven game road trip - is scheduled for Friday night. Austin Ross (1-0, 3.49) is scheduled to start for the Timber Rattlers. Clinton sends Victor Sanchez (6-5, 2.75) to the mound. Game time is 6:30pm. Tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM or IHeartRadio starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:10pm.

Sounds Fall 9-5 Out West

Blake Davis Goes 2-for-4 In First Game Off D.L.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Nashville Sounds never recovered from a six-run second inning Thursday night at Isotopes Park, losing 9-5 to the Albuquerque Isotopes.

After a perfect first inning, Sounds starter Zach Kroenke (5-15) ran into trouble in the second. The lefty, making the spot start for Chris Narveson, loaded the bases for Albuquerque's infielder Justin Sellers, who hit a triple past a diving Kentrail Davis in center field to put the 'Topes up three.

Dee Gordon kept the inning alive with a two-out RBI-single into right field, scoring Sellers to give Albuquerque a 4-0 lead. Gordon moved to third on Elian Herrera's single and came home when Scott Van Slyke sent Kroenke's pitch to the hill in center field for a two-run double.

Kroenke was charged his league-leading 15th loss, finishing with six runs allowed on eight hits and two walks over 5 1/3 innings pitched. The lefty fanned four Isotopes before reliever Johnnie Lowe took over to close out the sixth.

Isotopes' starting pitcher Red Patterson (7-4) served up a quality start for his seventh win of the season, limiting the Sounds to just three hits over six innings of work. He held Nashville hitless through 4 2/3 innings, including a stretch of 12 consecutive batters retired before Sounds shortstop Blake Davis broke through with a single into left field.

Blake Davis' hit extends his hit streak to eight games, which matches his previous season-best recorded from April 28 to May 9.

Patterson left the game after six innings and the Sounds took advantage of the change, jumping on reliever Blake Johnson for four runs in the seventh.

Blake Davis, 2-for-4, got the Sounds on the board first with a two-run triple into right field and then scored on Stephen Parker's pinch-hit sacrifice fly.

With two outs in the inning Kentrail Davis, 2-for-4, belted his first home run as a Sound to make it a 6-4 game. Kentrail Davis' solo shot snapped a personal stretch of 224 at-bats without a homer and a three-game team draught.

Despite the rally, the Isotopes pulled away in the home half of the seventh inning, when Eliezer Alfonzo hit a three-run two-out home run off of Sounds reliever Travis Webb for a 9-4 lead.

Robinzon Diaz, 2-for-4, scored the Sounds final run of the game in the eighth inning when Kelvin De La Cruz chucked a wild pitch with runners on the corners. Diaz reached base on a single and moved to third on catcher Blake Lalli's second hit of the night.

Outfielder Sean Halton, back from his second stint in Milwaukee, picked up a double in the sixth inning to give him his fourth hit streak of five games or more this season.

Infielder Eugenio Velez extended his season-best hit streak to 11 games with a single in the seventh inning.

The Sounds play game three on Friday night at Isotopes Park and send RHP Alfredo Figaro (0-0, 2.25) to the hill opposite Albuquerque's RHP Angel Castro (8-4, 3.54). Baseball returns to Greer Stadium on Friday, August 30, for the team's final homestand of the season.

My post from Sunday night --

This isn't the case, but it feels like the Brewers are extra-anxious to see one of these high school pitching draft picks (Zach Quintana, Danny Keller - 2011, 6th round), ascend nicely -- post-Yovani Gallardo, who? Credit for Jake Odorizzi? Will Inman, Jeffrey Jeffress, Evan Anundsen, Odorizzi, Seth Lintz, Dylan Covey, Jorge Lopez, Quintana and Devin Williams - top 5 round high school pitchers since Yovani.

My bad, should have included recently-turned 23-year-old Huntsville RHP Brooks Hall, good things happening there (4th round, 2009).

Stars Avoid Sweep, Beat Blue Wahoos

Alex Cohen, Huntsville Stars

To wrap up a six-game set and 11-game homestand at Joe Davis Stadium, the Huntsville Stars avoided a potential series sweep and beat the Pensacola Blue Wahoos by a score of 2-1 on Thursday night.

Following a tremendous outing from Stars pitcher Ariel Pena the night before, Huntsville starting pitcher Brooks Hall more than built on that outing. Hall gave up just four hits in five scoreless innings while striking out five batters in a no-decision. The 23-year-old has now not given up an earned run over his last four outings, spanning 17.0 innings.

Prior to Hall's exit before the sixth inning, the Stars put him in line for his third win on the year in the third inning. Following a one-out single from outfielder Eric Patterson, an RBI single from first baseman Jason Rogers put the Stars up 1-0 (audio). For Rogers, the RBI was his league-leading 82nd on the season.

Hall would be in line for the win until the sixth inning, where Pensacola was able to tie up the game against Stars righty Eric Marzec. After a one-out triple by outfielder Ryan LaMarre, an RBI single from first baseman Mike Costanzo knotted things up at 1-1.

The score remained that way until the seventh inning, where the Stars offense returned the favor and scored the eventual game-winning run on a miscue from the pitcher. With runners at first and third and two outs, a wild pitch by Pensacola righty Loek Van Mill allowed shortstop Hector Gomez to score the final run of the game.

Huntsville reliever Greg Holle pitched a scoreless inning and righty Casey Medlen blanked the Blue Wahoos in the ninth innings for his eighth save on the year to secure the victory (audio, final out). Righty Arcenio Leon earned the win in relief, improving to 2-7 on the year after recording just one out in the sixth nning.

The win for the Stars snaps their five-game losing streak. It also caps up their season-long homestand with a 4-7 record and wraps up their season series against Pensacola with a 4-6 record.

On Friday, the Stars will head west to begin a five-game set against the Mississippi Braves at Trustmark Park. Huntsville will send RHP Drew Gagnon (4-7, 5.52 ERA) to the hill while Mississippi will counter with RHP Michael Lee (8-8, 3.86 ERA).

First pitch is at 7:05 PM.
