Things to do in Chicago

For traveling, I highly recommend either driving to Kenosha for the Metra, or driving to Skokie and catching the Yellow line. Both are infinitely cheaper and much better than the Amtrak option.

Where'd you eat?

We ended up eating lunch at Harry Caray's on Navy Pier. Good hamburgers, but it was really more of a convenience thing than anything else.

I had no idea the Metra went all the way up to Kenosha. I'll keep that in mind the next time we go.

I don't know if I'd recommend that. Its a really long ride since it makes so many stops.

With 4 people it becomes pretty economical to drive over the train. Parking at the Yellow Line isn't too bad, though CTA service through the Howard Station (where you will need to transfer) is also slow. It might just be easier at that point to drive down to the west loop where you can find parking for $12/day. You could then walk the 3 or 4 blocks to Union Station where you started your day anyway.

My experience was that Shedd Aquarium is a rip off. I was expecting a lot more for charging $30 + just to get in the door plus extra to see all the exhibits. I much prefer the Brookfield Zoo which puts the Milwaukee Zoo to shame. I have liked Navy Pier the couple times I have been there but the crowds can be annoying/overwhelming depending on when you go.
