Printing problems

Guys, I desperately need some help. I have been having an issue with my main desktop computer off and on for over two weeks now. Whenever I try to print anything, from any program (doesn't matter if it's from a browser, from Word, Open-office, or Inkscape, etc) the program freezes and I'm unable to print anything. My cursor becomes that little blue spinning disc, and the program eventually says "Not responding" on the top bar. This is a Windows 7 desktop connected directly to an HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer.

 

I need help! Any advice would be appreciated.

Invader3k,

 

I'm assuming you have it connected via a cable. Could the wireless function have been turned on by accident on the printer. This may cause "confusion" in the printer in its connection to the pc. Aside from the usual "update the drivers" advice, this is my best guess.
