I don't ever watch soccer ever, but I did recently watch the 30 for 30 on Maradona. I was intrigued to watch because he was such a huge name in my youth. From the video of the 1986 World Cup it looked like Maradona had the crap knocked out of him. Most of it seemed to be dirty play.

My question is, do todays superstars get beat up like he did?

The US did exactly that to Ronaldo during their match against Portugal. Yet, he still burned them in the 92nd minute.

The US didn't even get close to how badly Maradona used to get kicked & abused on the field. Maradona played in an era where it took a lot more to get a foul called, & opposing teams really went after him. You just couldn't stop him through 'clean' means most days.

Thiago Silva must feel like absolute garbage for that incredibly stupid yellow he picked up against Colombia.

What a performance from Germany, but Brazil defended just indefensibly poorly.

I'm not sure if Neuer was yelling at Ozil for failing to finish, or for trying to finish in that situation. Normally I'd welcome an 8th goal, but that just seems a bit cruel on Brazil's home turf.

i think he WANTED a yellow card, he made another stupid foul 5 minutes before he got carded and that deserved a card as well.

his scenario was clear: avoid the semifinal without the risk of being carded there and having to seat in the final (remember he's the captain, he would have taken the cup..).

in italy this is called "dietrologia", "behindery", it is the national sport.

Yesterday match was so boring i cought mysel a few times changing channel to see the movie "Sharknado".

this B-catastrophic-movie final was so familiar...it ended with the cards winning and the brewers dropping another one..

or maybe i just fell asleep on the sofa.

On the bright side, Thiago Silva now looks like the greatest/most important player in the universe given Brazil's performance without him. :laughing

Upon further review, not so much. Let Robben get behind him in the first minutes and should have been red carded. Although it probably shouldn't have been a penalty, it amounted to the same result. Brazil was never coming back after that play. David Luiz looked even worse though. No discipline at all.

Yeah, if given the option of starting the game with 10 men versus starting the game with a PK, I'd think the PK would be better for Brazil.

I want to see Messi win one today with a trademark world cup moment. But, I'm going with 2-1 Germany if I'm a betting man (which I'm not).

That was an amazing game winner.

It actually looks like most of the sight-lines along the 3B line are better than in stadiums with a track. It's not great by any means, but for a baseball stadium, I'm betting you can get at least 15,000 - 20,000 people in pretty good seats. Any ideas of what attendance is supposed to look like?

I wonder if a team like Liverpool would ever consider a US series sort of like the NFL London game. I can't say I'd be all that excited to see a friendly match in the US, but it would be pretty neat to get to an actual premier league game. Probably not going to happen what with Champions League, FA Cup, etc., but it would be pretty cool.
