2013-14 Soccer Thread

Funketown

'Bout time for this, no?

If you didn't see the 'MURICA game vs. Bosnia, you missed out. I turned it off after Altidore tied it at 2-2 (not my choice!). That's a very good result against a good Bosnian team.

First premier league fixtures this morning. The Bundesliga season already started last week (Yup, Bayern still looks really good).

There are four US internationals playing for Stoke, so that's a good lower-table team to follow. Geoff Cameron was the only one who played today (he started) vs. Liverpool in their 1-0 loss. Brek Shea, Juan Agudelo, and Maurice Edu also play for Stoke.

Altidore started for Sunderland today. I have the game on in the background. He's had a couple of solid chances which he hasn't been able to do much with. Just made a run in the box surrounded by about five Fulham defenders but couldn't get a good shot off.

Arsenal looks to be going down. Laurent Koscielny was sent off, and Benteke has scored twice on penalties (one was a rebound).

NBC's coverage looks to be really good so far. You can use a valid username from most cable services and watch all premier league games in very high quality on tablets, smartphones, and computers. No longer do I need a catalog of streaming programs just to watch the premier league!

If you have AT&T U-Verse Extra Time is provided on TV so you don't have to watch on the internet. Norwich City/Everton, West Brom/Southampton, Sunderland/Fulham and West Ham/Cardiff City were on channels 1691-1694.

I have U-200 and got it, I'd imagine it's on the higher packages don't know about the lower ones. I actually think it might be on all of them since you can stream the games online as well.

I think this is only for the EPL. Don't know how you would get all the La Liga games.

Toughest group for me looks like Group F. Feel bad for Celtic, after such an emotional high yesterday they just get screwed in the group.

I think ManUre got a tougher draw than it would appear. Shaktar made the round of 16 last year and Leverkusen did two years ago. Sociedad did finish 4th in La Liga last season as well. Plus this is Moyes first test in Europe with expectations. I really hope they don't advance.

Wow -- so jealous! And Kalle, I have to tell you that a Derby Della Madonnina at the San Siro is a huge life-checklist item for me. Now, how soon I could realistically make that happen is another story...

You're an Arsenal fan, TLB? We can't be friends.

That I am. I love Wenger... he's a huge reason I got into following club football, period.

Spurs for you?

Not Spurs, Chelsea but as they say, you're either a blue or a red and I am clearly a blue. ;)

TLB (and whoever brewerfan wants to), if you ever come to Italy let me know.

1) you'll be my guest in Genova

2) you'll have the best seats in Lugi Ferraris Stadio for a Sampdoria game for free

3) you'll be 2hrs away from San Siro (dont' count me in for a AC Milan game, though)

4) Ryanair flights Genova/London Stansted are about 40 dollars...

BRAAAAAAAAAAZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!

That is all.

Three thoughts:

1. For as bad as they looked @ Costa Rica, they looked great (after the first ~30 minutes) against Mexico.

2. Wow, does Mexico lack overall talent. Just not a good side right now.

3. DOS A CERO! DOS A CERO!

I thought they settled down after the first 15 minutes, not 30. At worst it was even from 15-30.

I saw it as roughly even until after ~30 min.

What really excites me is all the little ways you can tell they're well coached. I love Jurgi!

Ok guys need a little help. How do you watch these soccer matches? Just started getting in to this last year a bit. Starting small with premiere league which I see is on nbc sports and maybe espn? I have goltv but seems to be more obscure leagues (not always though???). I'd like to see some serie A from Italy.

Also, some advice please. I've found myself cheering for south Hampton (because of the pink Floyd song from final cut) and New Castle (caught a few of their games last year and enjoyed). Will I be miserable????
