Quick thought on the timing of Mark Rogers' rehab --

Because Rogers has no options remaining, he'd have to be with Milwaukee upon the completion of his 30-day rehab.

So the timing of the start of his rehab (July 31st), will prove convenient related to September call-ups should Rogers be OK.

Final: Chattanooga 5 Huntsville 1 (Completion of Suspended Game 8/9)

The Chattanooga Lookouts used a 3 run first to power their way to a 5-1 victory Saturday evening. Stars start Andy Moye worked the 1st prior to the rains coming and forcing the suspension. Due to the suspension, Moye (5-12, 4.43) worked only 1 inning, allowing 3 run on 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out 1. He was saddled with the loss. In that 1 inning, Moye threw 28 pitches, 19 for strikes. With the short outing, and the work the bullpen has done recently, he's probably going to see an inning out of the bullpen to get some work and also take a little off the bullpen.

When the game restarted, Frankie De La Cruz took the mound for the Stars. He did a good job, working 4 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out 3. De La Cruz threw 63 pitches, 35 for strikes. By working 4 innings, De La Cruz took a lot of pressure off the bullpen. Arcenio Leon was next up for the Stars. He worked 2 innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 2. Finally, Micah Owings, who started in left field, came on to work the 9th. He did not allow a hit or a run. He walked 1 and struck out 2. So far, the pitching side of the hybrid has been better than the hitting side for Micah.

Huntsville Box Score

The Stars offense was held to 1 run on 6 hits and 2 walks while being struck out 12 times. First baseman Jason Rogers carried the big bat again for the Stars. He went 2-3 and drove in the only Stars run, his league leading 77th RBI. He also drew a walk and stole 2 bases. Second baseman Nick Shaw was 1-4 with a double and scored the Stars lone run. Shea Vucinich doubled and Eric Patterson and Rene Tosoni each singled for the Stars. The other base on balls was taken by pitcher Frankie De La Cruz.

Sky Sox Defeat Sounds In Twinbill Opener, 6-2

Hellweg Suffers First Loss For Nashville Since Early May

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Colorado Springs Sky Sox snapped a seven-game skid by hanging a 6-2 loss on the Nashville Sounds in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Security Service Field.

Colorado Springs right-hander Chris Volstad (6-4) worked a seven-inning complete game to earn his first victory since June. The veteran authored a quality start, holding the Sounds to two runs on seven hits in his seven frames, and helped his own cause with a go-ahead RBI single in the contest.

Shortstop Blake Davis went 3-for-3 for Nashville in the contest.

The Sky Sox jumped out to a 2-0 lead against PCL ERA leader Johnny Hellweg in the bottom of the second inning.

After Ryan Wheeler led off the frame by scorching a double to the center field wall, Jordan Pacheco sliced an RBI triple down the first base line into the right field corner to plate the afternoon's first run. Ben Paulsen (3-for-3) followed with a run-scoring bloop single to shallow center that doubled the home team's lead.

Kent Matthes followed with a double to put runners on second and third with still no outs, but Hellweg escaped the frame without further damage by striking out former Sound Hernan Iribarren then inducing a comebacker pop-up double play from Volstad on a botched suicide squeeze bunt attempt.

Nashville evened the contest at 2-2 in the top of the third with a pair of runs against Volstad. Josh Prince drew an inning-opening walk and moved to second on a Blake Davis single before both runners were moved up a base on a Hellweg sacrifice bunt. Kentrail Davis followed with a run-scoring groundout before red-hot Eugenio Velez extended his hitting streak to seven games with a game-tying double into the left field corner. The infielder is hitting .440 (11-for-25) during his hit streak.

Volstad helped his own cause in the fourth, putting the Sky Sox back in front with a two-out RBI single through the right side of the infield against Hellweg. Paulsen scored on the knock after reaching on a one-out single during the frame. Colorado Springs extended its lead to 4-2 when Tim Wheeler followed with a bloop RBI single to left.

The Sky Sox continued to add to the lead in the fifth, plating two more runs against Hellweg to make it a 6-2 contest. Paulsen contributed his second RBI single of the day before the Nashville right-hander misfired to first on a pickoff attempt to allow the second run of the frame to score in unearned fashion.

Hellweg (10-5) took his first Triple-A loss in 13 outings, dating back to May 5th, after being touched for a season high-tying six runs on a season-high 10 hits in his five frames of action. His league-leading ERA jumped from 2.44 to 2.75 following the outing.

Sounds Fall 4-2 In Nightcap Out West

Hellweg Suffers First Loss For Nashville Since Early May

Nashville Sounds

http://i.imgur.com/afmG75R.jpg

Hunter Morris, archive photo (Mike Strasinger / Nashville Sounds)

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Nashville Sounds never recovered from a four-run first inning put up by the Colorado Springs Sky Sox in Saturday's nightcap at Security Service Field, eventually losing 4-2 despite a 7th-inning rally.

Sounds starting pitcher Aaron Laffey (5-6) loaded the bases with no outs in the first to set the table for the Sky Sox big four-run inning.

The Sox got their first pair of runs on groundouts, while Kent Matthes' double to the right-field corner and a single through the infield by Jose Gonzalez each scored a run.

Laffey was charged with the loss, his sixth, for one inning of work in which he allowed three hits and one walk. Laffey's start is the shortest made by a Sound this season, previously Tyler Thornburg held that mark with a 2 1/3 outing in May.

Reliever Tim Dillard picked up in the second inning for Nashville to work two scoreless frames. He picked up one strikeout on the night to take sole possession of third place on the Sounds career strikeouts list with 322 all-time.

Reliever Dustin Molleken made his Sounds debut a good one, working two 1-2-3 innings in the middle of the game and recording three strikeouts.

Michael Olmsted also saw work from the bullpen for Nashville. The right-hander had a runner on third with no outs, but retired the side with two strikeouts and a fly ball to center.

The Sounds plated a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning as Sean Halton knocked a double down the left-field line that scored Eugenio Velez, who reached base on balls. Hunter Morris followed with a single into right field, scoring Halton.

Nashville had other chances in the game, loading the bases with two outs in the fourth and having a runner on second with no outs in the fifth, but came up empty on both occasions. The team left a total of 10 runners on base.

Velez, 2-for-2, extended his hit streak to eight games and Blake Davis, 2-for-3, brought his streak to five consecutive games for the third time this season. Davis finished the doubleheader 5-for-6 and is 7-for-10 in the series.

The Sounds will wrap the series with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox on Sunday night at Security Service Field. Throwing for Nashville will be RHP Jimmy Nelson (2-4, 3.70) opposite the Sky Sox RHP Armando Galarraga (0-1, 9.39). Baseball returns to Greer Stadium on Friday, August 16, for Elvis Night and postgame fireworks.

Final: Huntsville 3 Chattanooga 2

The Stars came from behind to win the regularly scheduled game 3-2 over the Chattanooga Lookouts. The Stars were down to their final strike when third baseman Mike Walker ripped a 2 run double to give the Stars the late lead. It was only the Stars 2 hit of the game. Thanks to solid pitching, they were in a position to make a comeback like that.

The Stars got a good start from Taylor Jungmann tonight. Taylor had a rough 1st inning, but settled down to give the Stars 5 innings. Over those 5 innings, Jungmann allowed 2 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks while striking out 1. Both runs scored in the 1st on a 2 out, 2 run home run. Jungmann threw 76 pitches, 37 for strikes and had a sparkling 10-1 GO/FO ratio. Again, the walks stand out, especially for someone that was not known for allowing many in the past. Righty Greg Holle worked 1 inning of relief and was credited with the win. In his inning, Holle (4-3, 3.95) didn't allow a run or hit but did walk 2. Holle had a 2-0 GO/FO ratio. David Goforth worked a scoreless 9th to pick up his first save with the Stars. Goforth walked 2, so it wasn't a clean inning, and struck out 1. Goforth also put together a 2-0 GO/FO ratio giving the team a 14-1 combined ratio.

Huntsville Box Score

Huntsville had fewer hits than runs tonight in their win. Held to 2 hits, they made both hits hurt. Jason Rogers slugged his 20th home run on the season and drove in his 78 RBI. Both lead the Southern League. Rogers then drew a walk in the 7th, as did right fielder Brock Kjeldgaard to set the stage for Mike Walker's heroics. Both were able to score when Walker doubled with 2 strikes and 2 outs in the 7th. Those 3 were the only base runners the Stars had tonight.

All 5 runs scored in this game scored with 2 outs. Weird.

Rattlers rock River Bandits

Roache homers twice, Wagner & Martin combine on 1-hit shutout

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

Victor Roache hit a pair of home runs at Quad Cities on August 10 to give him 20 on the season. The Timber Rattlers won 7-0. (Ann Mollica/Wisconsin Timber Rattlers)

DAVENPORT, IA - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers did just about everything right in a 7-0 victory over the Quad Cities River Bandits Saturday night at Modern Woodmen Park. On the pitching side of the ledger, Tyler Wagner and Harvey Martin combined on a one-hitter. They got more than enough support from the offense as Victor Roache blasted two homers and Mike Garza hit one. Both Roache and Garza drove in three runs in the game, Wisconsin's second straight win.

The Rattlers (50-64 overall, 21-27 second half) pounced on the River Bandits (67-49, 29-18) in the first inning. Tyrone Taylor doubled to start the game. Garza blooped a single down the right field line to drive in Taylor for the first run of the game. Roache was next and he lined a 2-0 pitch from Quad Cities starting pitcher Joe Bircher over the wall in right-center for a two-run home run and a 3-0 lead. The home run was his nineteenth of the season.

Garza knocked in his second run of the game in the third inning. Michael Reed doubled with one out. Garza singled to left and Reed got the hand in under the tag of Quad Cities catcher Roberto Pena. The closeness of the play brought River Bandits manager Omar Lopez out of the dugout to argue and he overstayed his welcome. Lopez was ejected before play was finally restarted.

Parker Berberet tripled to start a Wisconsin rally in the top of the fourth. Tyler Roberts dropped a single over the drawn in infield with one out and Berberet scored for a 5-0 lead.

Garza made it 6-0 in the top of the fifth. He jumped on the first pitch of the inning and crushed a home run to left-center. It was the second game in a row with a home run by Garza.

Wagner tossed five shutout innings. The only hit he allowed was a two-out, seeing-eye single up the middle in the bottom of the fourth. Wagner walked two and struck out five in his five innings before turning the game over to the bullpen.

Roache padded Wisconsin's lead in the top of the seventh. He lined the first pitch from Quad Cities reliever Daniel Minor beyond the grass seating in left-center field for his second home run of the night. The homer, his twentieth of the season, put Roache in an exclusive Wisconsin Timber Rattlers club. Since the Timber Rattlers came into existence in 1995, only four other players - Khris Davis, Matt Hagen, Juan Silvestre, and Brock Kjeldgaard - had hit twenty or more home runs in a season. Davis, who hit 22 in 2010, holds the franchise record.

Martin took over for Wagner in the bottom of the sixth and tossed four scoreless and hitless innings to pick up his second save of the season.

Game two of the three game series at Modern Woodmen Park is Sunday evening. Wisconsin has scheduled Jorge Lopez (6-7, 5.22) as their starting pitcher. The River Bandits will send Brian Holmes (3-3, 3.27) to the mound. Game time is 5:00pm. Tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM or IHeartRadio starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 4:40pm.

HOME RUNS:

Victor Roache (19th, 1 on in 1st inning off Joe Bircher, 1 out)

Mike Garza (4th, 0 on in 5th inning off Joe Bircher, 0 out)

Victor Roache (20th, 0 on in 7th inning off Daniel Minor, 0 out)

WP: Tyler Wagner (9-8)

LP: Joe Bircher (3-2)

SAVE: Harvey Martin (2)

TIME: 2:34

ATTN: 5,544

Wisconsin Boxscore

Tyler Wagner & Harvey Martin! I was going to type it again but I'll post this instead.

In a welcome change the Rattlers pounded out 12 hits and 7 of them were for extra bases. Tyrone Taylor, Michael Garza, Victor Roache, and Parker Berberet all had multi-hit games and XBHs, while Michael Reed added an XBH of his own.

Garrett Cooper left the game after being hit by a pitch, I missed what Mehring said about the substitution in the 9th other than his hit streak came to an end.

Stars Split Suspended Game, Seven-Inning Contest with Lookouts

By Alex Cohen / Huntsville Stars

On Saturday night, the Stars lost the conclusion of a suspended game 2-1 and then won a seven-inning contest by a score of 3-2 against the Chattanooga Lookouts at AT&T Field.

Trailing the Lookouts 3-0 when the suspended game resumed in the top of the second inning, the Stars were only able to manage one run off of a Lookouts pitching staff headlined by righty Zach Lee.

The Dodgers 4th ranked prospect blanked the Stars though six innings, giving up just three hits while striking out a season-high eight batters.

Huntsville scored their only run in the eighth inning on an RBI single from first baseman Jason Rogers against Chattanooga lefty Mark Thomas. Rogers paced the offense with two of the Stars six team hits.

In the seven-inning contest following the conclusion of the suspended game, the Stars fell behind early in the first after Lookouts first baseman J.T Wise hit a two-out, two-run homer against starting pitcher Taylor Jungmann to make the score 2-0.

Fortunately for the Stars, Jungmann settled down. The Brewers 2nd ranked prospect did not give up a run in his final four frames of work, earning a no-decision with just two runs yielded along with five hits over five innings.

Despite being no-hit through 3.2 innings by Chattanooga starting pitcher Andres Santiago, the Stars began mounting their comeback in the bottom of the fourth with one swing of the bat from Rogers. The Brewers minor league player of the month for July hit his league-leading 20th homer of the season off the Lookouts scoreboard in left field to cut the Stars deficit in half.

Going into the seventh inning down 2-1, both Rogers and outfielder Brock Kjeldgaard drew walks against Lookouts closer Yimi Garcia (L, 4-5) to bring runners on first and second and two outs.

With the Stars down to their final out and final strike, third baseman Mike Walker ripped a two-run double, scoring Rogers and Kjeldgaard to put the Stars on top for the first time in the game.

The Stars would be able to hold their one-run lead as righty David Goforth notched his first save of the season and second of his career by sending the Lookouts down scoreless in the bottom of the seventh inning.

In relief, righty Greg Holle earned the win, improving to 4-3 on the year with an inning of scoreless baseball.

En route to the victory, the Stars were held to just two hits for the second time this season.

On Sunday, the Stars will play the rubbermatch of a five-game series against the Chattanooga Lookouts at AT&T Field. Huntsville will send RHP Ariel Pena (5-8, 4.33 ERA) while Chattanooga will counter with RHP Ross Stripling (5-2, 3.10 ERA). First pitch is 2:15 PM ET (1:15 Central).

Blue Jays rally past 'Tees, 7-6

Richardson records four hits, Ramirez extends hit streak to 13

Manatees center fielder D'Vontrey Richardson, seen here in a game from earlier this season, went 4-for-5 with two doubles and a run scored in Brevard County's 7-6 loss to the Dunedin Blue Jays on Saturday night at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium in Dunedin. Richardson has reached base safely in 18 straight games. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography)

AUDIO: Game Highlights

DUNEDIN, Fla. - Dunedin's Gustavo Pierre hit for the cycle and capped it off by hitting a game-tying solo homer in the seventh inning, as the Brevard County Manatees fell to the Blue Jays 7-6 on Saturday night at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium.

Pierre's first hit came in the bottom of the first inning when he drove in two with a double. He then tripled in the third inning, before singling in the fifth.

The scoring started right away as the first inning saw Brevard County (21-25 second half, 58-55 overall) and Dunedin (17-28, 54-57) combine for five runs.

D'Vontrey Richardson kicked off the game with a double. Back-to-back singles by Yadiel Rivera and Nick Ramirez then scored Richardson.

Richardson went 4-for-5 on the night with two doubles and has now reached base in 18 straight games. Rivera was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Ramirez drove in two runs, while extending his hitting streak to 13 games.

Mitch Haniger then walked to load the bases before Scott Copeland's second wild pitch of the first inning plated Rivera, spotting the 'Tees a two-run lead before recording a single out.

Nicky Delmonico, returning to the lineup for the first time since being hit by a pitch on Wednesday, walked to load the bases for the second time. Cameron Garfield followed by bouncing into a 4-6-3 double play, scoring Nick Ramirez.

Dunedin came right back against Manatees starting pitcher Damien Magnifico (0-2, 6.23 ERA). Shane Opitz singled with one out before consecutive walks to Mike Crouse and K.C. Hobson loaded the bases for the Blue Jays. Then with two outs, Pierre then collected his doubled into right to cut Brevard's lead to 3-2.

The Jays evened up the score in the third when Hobson scored on Pierre's two-out triple. Magnifico's night ended after three innings of work as he allowed five hits, walked two and did not record a strikeout.

The Manatees reclaimed the lead in the fourth by scoring a run in each of the three next innings. Three straight singles loaded the bases for Ramirez in the fourth, who drew a bases-loaded walk with one out.

Garfield led off the top of the fifth inning with his eighth home run of the season and first since June 4 to give the Manatees a 5-3 advantage. Brevard County extended their lead to three runs in the sixth when Rivera led off the inning with a single, stole second and then came around to score on a two-out single by Haniger.

Dunedin would then cut its deficit to a one run in the bottom half of the frame. Nick Baligod and Jon Berti opened the inning by drawing back-to-back walks from Alex Moore.

Following an Opitz fielder's choice, Crouse singled in Baligod and that ended the night for Moore. He allowed two runs in 2.2 innings of work in relief of Magnifico. Moore yielded four hits and three walks, while fanning one.

Eric Arnett then entered the game and he allowed a double to the first batter he faced as Marcus Knecht drove in Opitz. The 'Tees were able to gun down Crouse at home, who was attempting to tie the game on the extra base hit.

After Pierre homered to lead off the seventh to complete the cycle and tie the game; the Blue Jays would take the lead when Baligod reached on a single and came around to score in Berti's two-out RBI base hit.

The Manatees and Blue Jays will play the second of a three-game set on Sunday evening at 5:00pm at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium. Chad Pierce (5-4, 3.39) will take the bump for the 'Tees. He will be opposed by Jesse Hernandez (5-10, 3.72) for the Blue Jays.
