Tonight’s interview is with 2012 Sounds hitting coach Al LeBoeuf, who is in town for a few days to watch the Sounds play as part of a new role with the Brewers following his departure last year from the Sounds due to health issues. As LeBoeuf shares the good news about his current health, you can hear in his voice how glad he is to have some “therapy” at the ballpark for a few days.

Kane County's big inning sends Rattlers to fourth straight loss

Cougars get seven straight hits and score five runs in sixth inning

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

GENEVA, IL - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers grabbed an early 2-0 lead against the Kane County Cougars on Thursday night at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark. But, Kane County rallied with a big sixth inning to defeat the Rattlers 6-2.

Parker Berberet ended one streak and extended another with his leadoff double in the top of the second for the Rattlers. Before the two-base hit by Berberet, Wisconsin's last 24 hits had been singles. Berberet also pushed his hitting streak to 16 games with the double. That matches the longest hitting streak by a Timber Rattler this season. Tyrone Taylor had a 16-game hitting streak earlier this season.

Max Walla cashed in the double with a single to center to send Berberet home for a 1-0 lead.

Wisconsin (44-60 overall, 15-24 second half) added to their lead in the top of the third. Lance Roenicke was hit by a pitch with one out. Mike Garza extended his hitting streak to eleven games with a single to right-center to send Roenicke around to third. Roenicke scored on a wild pitch for a 2-0 lead.

The Cougars (43-61, 13-25) pulled to within a run in the bottom of the third inning. Oliver Zapata hit a solo home run to right to leadoff the frame and make the score 2-1.

That home run was the only hit allowed by Wisconsin starter Jorge Lopez through five innings. But, the game turned on Lopez and the Timber Rattlers in the bottom of the sixth.

Jose Dore hit a leadoff home run to start the Kane County half of the sixth to tie the game. That home run by Dore started a string of seven straight hits by Cougars batters to would lead to five runs and a 6-2 lead by the time Dore made the final out of the inning.

Gioskar Amaya followed Dore's homer with a single. An errant pickoff throw and a wild pitch by Lopez sent Amaya around to third. Wisconsin brought the infield in to cut down the lead run at the plate, but Albert Almora singled through the center of the diamond to drive in Amaya for a 3-2 Kane County lead. That was the end of the line for Lopez.

Dan Vogelbach greeted Rattlers reliever Chris Razo to the game with a double into the corner in left that drove Almora home. Jeimer Candelario singled to right to put runners on the corners. Rock Shoulders continued the onslaught with a double into the corner in right to drive in the final two runs of the inning that put Kane County up 6-2. Willson Contreras had the final hit of the sequence with an infield single, but the Cougars would not score again in the sixth. The would not need to score again.

The Timber Rattlers would get base runners in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings, but did not threaten to score as they took their fourth loss in a row.

Wisconsin had nine hits in the game, but just one extra base hit, the double by Berberet. In the three game series at Kane County, the Rattlers have 30 hits - 29 singles - and have scored seven runs.

The final game of the series is Friday night. Austin Ross (0-0, 7.71) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Kane County will send Michael Heesch (3-8, 3.82) to the hill. Game time is 6:30pm. Tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM or IHeartRadio starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:10pm.

At one point this was a very enjoyable game that just turned on a dime, man do I hate losing to the Cubs at any level.

At least Hobbs Johnson had quite the outing with 4Ks in 2 clean innings.

Michael Garza had the only multi-hit game, and Parker Berberet's two bagger was the only XBH.

'Tees rally to take finale in ten from Jupiter

Manatees starting pitcher Jacob Barnes, seen here in a game from earlier this season, allowed just one earned run in 6.2 innings of work as Brevard County defeated the Jupiter Hammerheads, 5-4 in ten innings on Thursday night at Roger Dean Stadium. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography)

JUPITER, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees rallied to salvage a series split with the Jupiter Hammerheads as they took Thursday's series finale, 5-4 in ten innings at Roger Dean Stadium.

The Manatees (17-21 second half, 54-51 overall) could not solve Jupiter (20-20, 56-52) starting pitcher Angel Sanchez as he blanked the 'Tees for 6.2 innings. He allowed two hits and two walks, while striking out five.

With Brevard County down 3-0 after seven innings, their bats started to get going against Hammerheads reliever Kevin Cravey. T.J. Mittelstaedt led off the eighth with a walk and then after back-to-back singles from D'Vontrey Richardson and Yadiel Rivera, with Rivera's hit bringing home Mittelstaedt.

Cravey was pulled from the game and the next Jupiter pitcher out of the bullpen did not fare much better as Nick Wittgren allowed back-to-back RBI singles to Nick Ramirez and Mitch Haniger to allow the 'Tees to tie the game at 3-3.

Jupiter had also scored all three of their runs in one inning against Brevard County starting pitcher Jacob Barnes (6-5, 3.24 ERA) in the third.

A one-out double with the bases loaded from Noah Perio plated two runs and then Austin Barnes brough home another run on a sacrifice fly. Two of those runs were unearned though thanks to an error by Greg Hopkins earlier in the inning.

Overall, Barnes went 6.2 innings and gave up just the three runs (one earned) on six hits. He walked just two and fanned five Jupiter hitters.

The game went into extra innings with Hopkins attoning for his error back in the third inning. His two-out RBI single to center put the Manatees up 4-3. Rafael Neda followed with a RBI single of his own to left to provide an insurance run that would prove to be very important.

Tommy Toledo came on in the bottom of the tenth for the save and retired the first two batters of the inning. He then allowed a double to Ryan Fisher and then Ryan Rieger drew a walk.

Yordy Cabrera then worked a full count and reached on an infield chopper that ate up Nick Delmonico at third base to load the bases and put the winning run on.

Ryan Goetz then stepped in and delivered a single to left that scored Fisher and Rieger came around from second to try and score the tying run but was thrown out by Mittelstaedt at the plate to end the game.

Richardson went 3-for-5 at the plate to extend his hitting streak to ten games. Neda also had two hits on the night.

The Manatees will continue their eight-game road trip with the first of four games against the Charlotte Stone Crabs in Port Charlotte, beginning on Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Narveson, Sounds Blank Las Vegas, 4-0

Morris Homers For Nashville As Club Extends Longest Win Streak Of Year To Four

Nashville Sounds

Chris Narveson sporting the sweet Thursday throwback uniform (Mike Strasinger / Nashville Sounds)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Left-hander Chris Narveson combined with a trio of relievers on a four-hit shutout during the Nashville Sounds' 4-0 victory over the Las Vegas 51s in front of 6,441 fans on Thursday evening at Greer Stadium.

The victory, Nashville's sixth shutout of the year, extended the Sounds' longest winning streak of the season to four games. Las Vegas advanced only two runners into scoring position all evening.

Narveson (3-6) logged his third quality start in his last four outings to earn the victory. He faced three batters over the minimum while scattering three hits during his seven scoreless frames and struck out a season-high eight batters.

The left-hander's solid outing gave Nashville starting pitchers 22 consecutive scoreless innings dating back to Monday's series finale in Omaha.

Johnnie Lowe (0.2 IP) and Brent Leach (0.1 IP) combined to work a scoreless eighth before Michael Olmsted closed out the shutout in the ninth.

Sounds hurlers retired 15 of the final 17 Las Vegas batters on the night and faced only one batter over the minimum through the final six frames of action.

Nashville (42-71) finished with an 8-1 record while wearing its 1980s-style jerseys on Throwback Thursdays at Greer Stadium this season. The Sounds are just 17-32 in their other home contests.

In the bottom of the fourth, first baseman Hunter Morris (2-for-3) broke a scoreless tie when he snapped his longest home run drought of the season by leading off with his team-leading 20th big fly of the year, a solo shot to center off 51s starter Giancarlo Alvarado. It was the slugger's first homer in his last 72 at-bats and gave the Sounds a 1-0 lead.

Alvarado (4-1) suffered his first loss of the year in hard-luck fashion after working a quality start for the visitors. The right-hander allowed one run on six hits over 6 1/3 innings of action.

The Sounds upped their lead to 4-0 in the eighth inning with three unearned runs against Las Vegas reliever Jack Leathersich. Robinzon Diaz (2-for-4) led off with a single and moved to second on a Morris walk before scoring when 51s third baseman Brandon Hicks was unable to handle Hainley Statia's two-out ground ball. Stephen Parker (2-for-3) followed with a two-run double off the base of the right-center wall.

The Sounds will look to nail down their first series sweep of the year when the teams wrap up the four-game set with a 7:05 p.m. finale on Friday night. Nashville has not announced a starter for the contest. Las Vegas will send right-hander Jacob deGrom (3-1, 4.33) to the hill.

Final: Jackson 5 Huntsville 2

The Jackson Generals overcame a 2 run deficit in the first inning to come back and defeat the Huntsville Stars 5-2 Thursday evening. The Stars sent Brooks Hall out to start tonight. Hall worked 2 innings as the Brewers are working to limit his innings. In those 2 innings, Hall allowed 2 runs on 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out 2. Brooks threw 42 pitches, 27 for strikes. He also posted a 2-2 GO/FO ratio. After pitching 68 2/3 innings last season, Hall is already up to 94 this season. In 2011, Hall worked just over 100 innings.

With Hall out, the Stars needed 6 innings from their bullpen. They went to Frankie De La Cruz first. De La Cruz (1-3, 5.48) struggled, taking the loss tonight. Working 1 inning, De La Cruz allowed 3 runs on 3 hits and 1 walk. One hit was a 2 out, 2 run home run. Righty Eric Marzec was next. He worked 2 scoreless innings tonight. He gave up 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 5. Arcenio Leon finished the game up for the Stars. He worked the final 3 innings, allowing no runs on no hits but did walk 4 and also struck out 4.

Huntsville Box Score

The Stars offense was again led by Jason Rogers. Rogers went 3-4 with a run scored. He hit his 18th home run on the season in the first, accounting for all the Stars offense tonight. He added a single and double later in the game. Rogers 18 home runs and 72 RBI's both lead the Southern League. As far as any triple crown talk, Jason's batting average currently sits at .257 with Justin Greene of Mobile currently leading at .320.

Catcher Shawn Zarraga had another multi-hit game. He went 2-4 and now has a batting average of .325. He's started 4 games since July 5th and in those games is a combined 11-16 (.688). Shortstop Hector Gomez reached base twice. He singled and drew a walk. Center fielder Chadwin Stang and second baseman Nick Shaw recorded the Stars other 2 hits. Right fielder Rene Tosoni and left fielder Eric Patterson each drew a walk tonight.
