I thought Richardson retired from baseball? Am I not remembering that correctly? I seriously thought he was out of our system...

I must have missed something along the way.

EDIT: There are no stats for 2012, so I must not be as crazy as I thought.

I must have missed something along the way.

Perhaps you're just now getting back to a daily Link Report routine. If so, welcome back.

Richardson has been a Link Report staple here since June 18th (looked it up ;)) when our own Brad caught wind of him working out in Maryvale. He's been up with the Manatees for a bit more than three weeks, and had a five-game multiple-hit streak just last week to keep his name prominent here for some time now. On July 5th, we linked to his pre-game interview.

Got a chance to see D'Vontrey playing centerfield. The guy has some serious speed, which should help the Brevard pitching staff, plus his bat is pretty good for only playing around 20 games in a year and a half.

Right now, the typical top 6 in the Brevard lineup -- Richardson, Rivera, Ramirez, Haniger, Delmonico, Garfield -- are all at least somewhat interesting to follow. Meanwhile, Jason Rogers is the only everyday player at Huntsville who holds any interest at all. I can't remember that ever happening before. Huntsville could be a lot of fun next year, with those guys in a (somewhat) better hitting environment.

Text from Adam McCalvy:

Right-hander Marco Estrada threw 34 pitches in a successful start for Rookie-level Arizona on Monday, the first of at least three Minor League rehabilitation appearances before the Brewers consider reinstating him from the disabled list. Assuming no setbacks, Estrada will start again Friday on three days' rest, though assistant general manager Gord Ash said the club was still considering where to send him.

"I think two more starts would be the minimum, and I think if we go a fourth [rehab] start, it would be either because we need him extended or he just needs to pitch better," Roenicke said.

Another injured right-hander, Hiram Burgos, remains shut down with a shoulder injury, but Ash said no surgery was being contemplated at this time.

LHP Ismael Guillon of the Reds and the positional prospect I wanted to target from the Dodgers when it looked like Ramirez might be good trade bait is the highlight, boo.

Final: Jupiter 2, Brevard County 1

'Tees edged late by Jupiter, 2-1

Pierce goes six scoreless as Brevard manages four hits

By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees

http://www.milb.com/assets/images/7/4/2/55316742/cuts/Pierce_7.25_1_pws0vq6x_r7ecv9kv.JPG

Manatees starting pitcher Chad Pierce, seen here in a game from earlier this season, threw six shutout innings but did not factor in the decision as Brevard County fell 2-1 to the Jupiter Hammerheads on Tuesday night at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter.

JUPITER, Fla. - Six shutout innings from starting pitcher Chad Pierce were not enough as the Brevard County Manatees were edged 2-1 by the Jupiter Hammerheads on a walk-off single in the ninth inning on Tuesday night at Roger Dean Stadium.

Pierce's (5-4, 3.26 ERA) six innings tied his season high, although the eight hits that he allowed were the second-most that he has yielded in an outing so far this season.

Only two of those hits though went for extra bases, as Pierce benefitted from two double plays and Mitch Haniger throwing out Josh Adams at home plate to end the fifth inning to keep the game scoreless.

The Manatees (16-20 first half, 53-50 overall), who only had two hits up to that point, plated the first run of the game in the top of the sixth. D'Vontrey Richardson drew a one-out walk and then Yadiel Rivera reached on a fielding error by third baseman Ryan Fisher that put runners on the corners.

Nick Ramirez followed with a RBI ground out to drive in Richardson and make it a 1-0 game.

Alex Moore relieved Pierce in the seventh and after allowing a lead-off walk, Moore forced Adams to fly out to center and Brent Keys to ground into a 6-4-3 double play to end the frame.

Greg Hopkins led off the top of the eighth with a double for the 'Tees and then moved to third on a T.J. Mittelstaedt fly out. Hopkins tagged on Richardson's fly ball to right but was thrown out to deny Brevard the insurance run and end the inning.

After recording eight hits with nothing to show for it, Jupiter (19-19, 55-51) finally got on the board with one swing of the bat as Ryan Fisher took Moore deep with one out in the eighth to tie the game.

Moore stayed in for the bottom of the ninth and allowed a lead-off single to Alfredo Lopez before Lopez moved over to second on a sacrifice bunt. Santo Manzanillo was then called upon to get the game into extra innings.

Manzanillo was able to get Adams to line out to Rivera for the second out but with Keys batting, Lopez moved to third on a passed ball. Keys was then intentionally walked.

It would be Austin Barnes who would be the hero for the Hammerheads as he lined a single to right to plate Lopez and complete Jupiter's comeback to give them the walk-off win.

The Manatees recorded just four hits, including a fourth inning single from Richardson that extended his hitting streak to eight games.

Brevard County and Jupiter will be back at it again on Wednesday night with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m.

Final: Jackson 5 Huntsville 1

(As I write this, the box score is stuck in the 7th inning. Hopefully this gets resolved quickly.)

The Generals jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first and Jackson's pitching made is hold up as the Generals defeated the Stars 5-1 Tuesday evening. Stars starter Taylor Jungmann pitched a real strong game as well. He struggled in the first and 8th innings, but otherwise was dominant. His line ended at 7 1/3 innings, 5 runs, only 3 earned, on 5 hits and 4 walks while striking out 7. It was unfortunate Taylor had problems in the 8th as Huntsville had made it a 2-1 game scoring a run in the top of the 8th. Right hander Eric Marzec relieved Jungmann in the 8th. He allowed 1 hit, which drove in an inherited runner, and struck out 1 in 2/3 innings of relief.

Huntsville Box Score

The Stars were only able to knock out 6 hits and draw 2 walks in their 5-1 loss. Shortstop Hector Gomez led the Stars hitters Tuesday night. Gomez went 2-3 and drove in the only run for Huntsville. Right fielder Rene Tosoni also had 2 hits for the Stars, also going 2-3. Jason Rogers pushed his hitting streak to 11 with a double tonight. He also drew a walk. Second baseman Eric Patterson had the other hit tonight for Huntsville, a first inning double. Mike Walker was the only other Stars hitter to reach base, drawing a walk in the 8th.

Huntsville Play By Play.

Huntsville's only real rally took place in the 8th.

Huntsville Top of the 8th

Rene Tosoni singles on a ground ball to right fielder Daniel Paolini.

Joey Paciorek flies out to right fielder Daniel Paolini.

Adam Weisenburger grounds into a force out, fielded by shortstop Chris Taylor. Rene Tosoni out at 2nd. Adam Weisenburger to 1st.

Mike Walker walks. Adam Weisenburger to 2nd.

Pitching Change: Dominic Leone replaces Anthony Fernandez.

Hector Gomez singles on a ground ball to second baseman Jack Marder. Adam Weisenburger scores. Mike Walker to 3rd. Throwing error by second baseman Jack Marder.

Chadwin Stang strikes out swinging.

Huntsville (17-20 second half, 46-59 overall) and Jackson will play game 4 on Wednesday night. Right hander Ariel Pena (5-7, 4.06) will take the hill for Huntsville. He will be looking to shake off a couple of rough outings lately. Game time is set for 7:05 Central. Stars Radio Broadcaster Alex Cohen will start things at 6:50 with the pregame show. This game will be available on MiLB TV for those with a subscription. You can always turn down the TV sound and turn up Alex on the radio.

Rattlers fall in Kane County

Cougars edge Rattlers 4-2

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

GENEVA, IL - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers lost a tough game to the Kane County Cougars on Tuesday night at fifth Third Bank Ballpark to open a four game series. The Rattlers tied the game 2-2 with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh, but the Cougars scored single runs in their half of the seventh and eighth innings to take the lead. Then, Kane County held off a Rattlers rally in the top of the ninth to pick up the win.

Reggie Golden gave Kane County (41-61 overall, 11-25 second half) the lead in the second inning. Golden lined a home run to left to leadoff the frame and the Cougars were up 1-0.

Kane County added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth. They had runners at second and third with two outs. A pitch from Eric Semmelhack got away from catcher Tyler Roberts for a passed ball to let the run score for a 2-0 advantage.

Justin Amlung, the Kane County starter, was making his first start of the season and pitched three scoreless innings. Nathan Dorris was next and he started his outing with three scoreless innings. But, Wisconsin (44-58, 15-22) got to him for two runs in the seventh.

Parker Berberet and Orlando Arcia started the inning with singles. Kane County was expecting a bunt from Roberts, but Roberts smacked a single to center to drive in Berberet. Adrian Williams was next and he dropped a sacrifice bunt to move both runners into scoring position. Alfredo Rodriguez sent a chopper to short that got Arcia home from third with the tying run.

But, the Cougars went back in front in the bottom of the seventh. Consecutive singles by Carlos Escobar and Oliver Zapata started the inning against lefty Taylor Wall. A wild pitch and a strikeout led to Wisconsin walking Albert Almorao set up Wall against the left-handed Dan Vogelbach.

Vogelbach sent a flyball to medium center where Adrian Williams made the catch. Contreras, the Kane County catcher tagged to try and score. The throw home looked to make the play close, but Roberts couldn't handle a head-high bounce on the one-hop throw and Contreras scored the go-ahead run.

Kane County added a run in the bottom of the eighth. Contreras drew a walk with two outs and none on base. Oliver Zapata followed with a triple to left-center to send Contreras home for a 4-2 lead.

Wisconsin gave a valiant effort in the top of the ninth. Berberet singled - his third hit of the night, but was erased on a force play. Roberts singled - his third hit of the night, too - and Williams drew a walk after being down 0-2 in the count to load the bases with one away. But, Stephen Perakslis got Alfredo Rodriguez to ground into a game-ending 6-4-3 double play to preserve the win for the Cougars.

The Timber Rattlers outhit the Cougars 12-8 in the game, but hit into three double plays in the game and wound up on the short end of the score.

Berberet extended his current hitting streak to fourteen games with his first hit of the night.

Game two of the series is Wednesday afternoon at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark. Wisconsin sends Tyler Wagner (8-8, 3.51) to the mound as their scheduled starting pitcher. The Cougars have Felix Pena (4-3, 3.62) as their scheduled starting pitcher. Game time is noon. Tune in for the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 11:40am on AM1280, WNAM or IHeartRadio.

Wisconsin Gameday

No pitcher had a clean game but Eric Semmelhack had his best outing in some time, he hadn't given up less than 5 runs in his last 4 outings prior to tonight.

The offense had a nice day pounding out 12 hits but you wouldn't know it from the 2 runs they scored, that might be related to all 12 hits being singles. You make the call! Micheal Garza went 2-4 while Parker Berberet and Tyler Roberts both collected 3 hits a piece. Berberet's hit streak is up to 14 games.

Since the Sounds had a delayed start, I'm going to be in bed before it ends. If anyone wants to take this game tonight, feel free. Otherwise I'll try to get it tomorrow morning before work... unless Jim beats me to it.

19-year-old Joshua Torres (stats) started and took the loss after allowing two runs in six innings. He allowed five hits and struck out two.

Here's Brewers.com's June 2012 brief note on Torres' signing, promising so far:

CHICAGO -- The showcase hosted by Major League Baseball for Puerto Rican players who weren't selected in the 2012 First-Year Player Draft on June 12-13 at the Roberto Clemente Walker Stadium in Carolina, Puerto Rico, benefitted the Brewers.

Milwaukee signed right-handed pitcher Joshua Torres out of the showcase, joining the Cardinals, Rangers and Rockies as one of four teams to sign a player from the showcase. Torres is a teenage prospect who projects as a top-of-the-rotation pitcher.

Fourteen-year Major League infielder and three-time All-Star Carlos Baerga, a Puerto Rican native, attended the event and addressed the players. The showcase provided undrafted, unsigned players with additional exposure before MLB scouts and coaches.

"By coordinating scouting opportunities for these aspiring players, we hope to provide additional avenues for young Puerto Rican players who wish to play professionally," said Kim Ng, MLB's senior vice president of baseball operations.
