BOS extends Pedroia: 7 yrs/$100M

RedSox.com official story

... Pedroia admitted how exciting the likelihood is that he will be with the Red Sox through at least 2021.

Pedroia, 29, is in the fourth year of a six-year deal that included an $11 million team option for '15. Instead of an option year, that will now mark the starting point of his new deal, which was first reported by WEEI.com and subsequently confirmed by MLB.com.

Dave Cameron's take for FanGraphs

The last couple of years of this deal probably aren’t going to look so great, as Pedroia is unlikely to still be a good starting second baseman in his late thirties. However, the price for the first few years is so low that the overall deal should be a net positive for the Red Sox.

This is a tremendously team friendly deal, which is hard to say when dealing with $100M. The Sox beat Cano to the marketplace so they don't have to worry about Pedroia demanding an equivalent salary.

Pedroia gets some pretty good security in a town and park he loves.

Win-win.
