Predict the First Brewers Trade

Community Moderator

Okay this is straightforward. I figure we could use a friendly competition to predict the who, when, and where of the Brewers FIRST pre-deadline deal. So let the games begin...

Date of First Trade: Wednesday, July 24

First Brewers Player Traded: Francisco Rodriguez

First Trade Partner: Detroit Tigers

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Since the only guys who are certain to be traded are healthy veterans, who are signed only through this year, I think the safest picks would be Gonzalez and K-Rod.

Gonzalez to Atlanta seems like an easy, and logical match, but since multiple posters are already there, I'll send K-Rod to Detroit, July 25.

First player moved has to be Mike Gonzalez. Simplest move out there for a coveted LH RP.

I'm going to go the opposite route, kinda LAA/Tex in that Atl makes the most sense, so Washington comes over the top and nabs him July 26th.

I'm getting a little Leery that Melvin may end up striking out this trade season, and that may end up being the only move.

I realize I post so many trade ideas that it goes against my posts, but there just isn't any significant buzz on Brewer Players from the other side. Garza to Texas has been going on for it seems since the month began almost 3 weeks now. And the only buzz in these 3 weeks has come on Gallardo which he preceeded to blow his next 3 Starts and now it's quiet on the front for him once again.

If only Corey were healthy this season...man he'd likely be top 3-4 in this entire trade season. There's just not a lot of bats available that spark attention and the buzz on Michael Young who came off one of the worst offensive seasons you can ask for to being coveted, the big main talk for a bat along with Alex Rios? Corey's value would have to be through the roof with this realization.

July 21st, KRod, Axford, Weeks, A-Ram, Yo and Yuni B. to the Dodgers for 5 top prospects, a couple of lower tier prospects. I know, totally far fetched, but I took Aoki, Lohse, Gonzalez and Badenhop off of the list, but that's all the guys I want to see gone.

This has been on my radar, but I've been waiting for Washington to make a move in the standings; they are 7 games out of the NL East and six games out of the wild card though, so I don't know that Washington makes a move.

Wednesday, July 24th

John Axford

Arizona Diamondbacks

(My sleeper move is Cleveland going over the top for Gonzalez on that same day - DM has history with Cleveland)

For me, it's the return of Harper, playing Rendon at 2b over Espinosa. The pitching is in order with one other move...Garza? The sleeper team? The team is stacked and Atlanta looks weak, I look for them to collapse with their Starting Pitching as the season wears on with that OF continuing to not produce affecting the morale.

I will concur K-Rod will be the first dealt. I just have an inkling he'll be packaged with Aoki for a pretty decent return. Gonzalez is the only guy besides K-Rod that I feel is certain to be dealt but I think he'll go right at the deadline.

Right now feels like the calm before the storm. On Monday July 23rd, 2012, here are 3 (and a half) big trades that kicked off the home stretch of trading season.

1. Seattle trades Ichiro to Yankee's for D.J. Mitchell and Danny Farquhar.

2. Marlins trade Anibal Sanchez and Omar Infante and 2013 competitive balance pick round A to Tigers for a trio of prospects. (Jacob Turner, Brian Flynn, and Rob Brantly.) The Marlins also received the Tigers competitive balance round B pick.

3. Houston Astros trade Wandy Rodriguez with cash to the Pittsburgh Pirates for Colton Cain, Rudy Owens and Robbie Grossman.

4. The trade that almost was ... Cubs trade Dempster to Braves for Randall Delgado and PTBNL. This was announced on the same day as all those other trades, but Dempster didn't agree to it (and didn't veto it either) but the Braves would move on a few days later. Dempster would then be traded on July 31st to the Rangers.
