Hard to believe the Brewers have been in Brevard County since 2005, leaving High Desert (Adelanto, California) after 2004.

The Manatees have been around for 20 years now, and front office staff just named their All-Time Team:

• Outfielders: Scott Podsednik (1996), Randy Winn (1997), Grady Sizemore (2002), Ryan Braun (2006).

• Infielders: Edgar Renteria (1994), Kevin Millar (1995), Alex Gonzalez (1995), Alcides Escobar (2006).

• Catchers: Mike Redmond (1994), Jonathan Lucroy (2008).

• Pitchers: Ryan Dempster (1997), A.J. Burnett (2000), Brad Penny (2000), Josh Beckett (2001), Chris Young (2003), Yovani Gallardo (2006), Bryan Harvey (1994), Chad Cordero (2003), John Axford (2008-09).

• Manager: Fredi Gonzalez (1994-96)

You know, Robinzon Diaz will be 30 years old in September, he will never, ever draw a walk, but playing 3rd base as much as he has lately, and with the ability to be the 3rd catcher in Milwaukee, one could see his addition to the 40-man roster as part of a Yuni B. exit plan.

Just sayin'....

Also and related, Stephen Parker was given an incredible opportunity for 2013, and did not snatch it at all.

Final: Dayton (Reds) 7, Wisconsin 6

Winker walks off Wisconsin

Dragons get game-winning homer in bottom of the ninth

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

DAYTON, OH - Jesse Winker hit a two-out solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Dayton Dragons a 7-6 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Sunday afternoon at Fifth Third Field. The Timber Rattlers had an early lead and lots of chances in the game, but could not close the deal.

The Rattlers (41-53 overall, 12-17 second half) broke in front with four first inning runs. Alfredo Rodriguez and Michael Reed started the inning with singles and an error allowed them to be on third and second with no outs. Tyrone Taylor drove in Rodriguez with a grounder to third.

Reed was at third base with two outs and Victor Roache at the plate. Roache drove a 2-2 pitch from Dayton starting pitcher Drew Cisco over the wall in center for a two-run home run and a 3-0 lead. The homer was the twelfth of the season for Roache.

Wisconsin tacked on one more run in the first inning. Garrett Cooper doubled after the Roache home run. Tyler Roberts followed with another double to score Cooper for the 4-0 lead.

Dayton (44-55, 16-14) cut Wisconsin's lead in half with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. Seth Mejias-Brean doubled to start the inning. A single by Jeff Gelalich put runners on the corners. Gelalich would steal second to put two runners in scoring position. An RBI grounder by Tanner Rahier scored Mejias-Brean and second Gelalich to third base. Roberts, the Rattlers catcher, tried to pick Gelalich off third base after a pitch to Joe Hudson, but threw the ball wildly and Gelalich scored.

Dayton took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the third. Rattlers starter Jorge Lopez retired the first two batters of the inning, but he walked Sammy Diaz. Winker followed with a double. Mejias-Brean doubled up the first base line to drive in two runs and tie the game. Gelalich blooped a single to center and Mejias-Brean beat the throw to the plate and the Dragons had a 5-4 lead.

Wisconsin rallied in the top of the fourth. Chris McFarland doubled to start the inning. Reed doubled with two outs to drive him in with the tying run.

But, the Rattlers gave Dayton a run in the bottom of the fourth. Joe Hudson reached on a one out walk. The throw back to the pitcher after a pickoff attempt went awry and Hudson took second. Then, Humberto Valor sent a one-hopper back to the mound. Lopez fielded the ball and had Hudson trapped off second base. He ran Hudson back towards second, but his throw was wild. That allowed Hudson to take third and Valor to move to second. Lopez threw a wild pitch on his next offering and Hudson scored for a 6-5 lead.

Wisconsin rallied in the top of the sixth. McFarland and Adrian Williams drew one out walks and Rodriguez singled to center to get McFarland home with the tying run. Wisconsin wound up with runners at second and third on the play, but could not take the lead.

In the seventh, Roache and pinch-hitter Mike Garza singled with one out, but both runners were stranded.

Williams started the Wisconsin eighth with a double and Rodriguez bunted him over to third base. Reed drew a walk, but Dayton reliever Alejandro Chacin got Taylor to ground into an inning ending 4-6-3 double play.

Taylor Mangum, who came on in the sixth inning and kept the game tied 6-6, retired the first two batters in the bottom of the ninth. But, he fell behind Winker 2-0. Winker cracked the next pitch over the wall in right field for a walkoff home run.

Roache ended the day with three hits to lead Wisconsin's 13-hit attack. However, Wisconsin went 4-for-16 with runners in scoring position during the game.

Both teams have won a game in the series.

Game three of the series at Fifth Third Field is Monday night. Austin Ross (0-0, 6.00) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Sal Romano (6-8, 4.37) is set to start for the Dragons. Game time is 6:00pm CDT (7:00pm EDT). So now we've linked to all three Ratterree HR's from that Idaho Falls series, all conveniently found here.

So Ratterree picks the only site thus far with Pioneer League MiLB.TV status for his heroics. Bet he can't wait for the only other MiLB.TV series in Grand Junction in August :).

Since the A-Crew only meet the Giants one more time, and it's tomorrow in Maryvale (Monday 7/22), guessing we'll prepare for two seven-inning games in the next Link Report.

Stars Win Streak Snapped By Blue Wahoos

Alex Cohen, Huntsville Stars

Looking for a season-high fourth consecutive victory, the Huntsville Stars fell on the short side of a back-and-forth affair with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos by a score of 7-5 on Sunday at Pensacola Bayfront Stadium.

Unlike the first three games of the series, it was the Stars that faced an early deficit. Against starting pitcher Ariel Pena in the first inning, the Blue Wahoos used a one-out walk and single by third baseman Mike Costanzo and outfielder Yorman Rodriguez respectively to their advantage. One batter after an RBI single by outfielder Donald Lutz, an RBI groundout from catcher Tucker Barnhart put Pensacola up by two.

After the Stars cut their deficit in half in the top of the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by second baseman Nick Shaw, Pensacola duplicated that output in the bottom of the frame on another run-scoring groundout by Barnhart to make the score 3-1.

One inning later, the Stars put together an offensive surge much like they did the previous night. To lead off the frame, first baseman Jason Rogers lofted a solo homer off of Blue Wahoos starter Josh Smith well over the left-field wall to cut the Pensacola lead to 3-2 (audio). For Rogers, the homer was his fourth in his last two games and now gives him 14 on the season, tying him for the team-high with outfielder Brock Kjeldgaard.

Fortunately for Huntsville, they were not nearly done offensively in the sixth inning. After a double from third baseman Mike Walker and a walk to Kjeldgaard, Blue Wahoos reliever Drew Hayes (W, 3-2) served up a three-run homer to shortstop Hector Gomez that put the Stars on top 5-3 (audio). The homer for Gomez was his first in 247 at-bats this season.

However, that Stars lead would not last for long. With reliever Arcenio Leon (L, 1-6) on in the seventh inning, a leadoff walk by outfielder Corey Wimberly and a two-run homer from Mike Costanzo tied up the ballgame before Leon could record an out. Following another walk from Leon and a pitching change by the Stars, an RBI triple from Lutz off of righty Greg Holle put Pensacola up for good. The Blue Wahoos tacked on an insurance run one batter later on a sacrifice fly by Barnhart.

To nail down the victory for Pensacola, righty Trevor Bell sent down the Stars scoreless in the ninth for his sixth save of the season.

On offense, the Stars spread out seven hits between six players, as Walker was the only player with a multi-hit game.

The loss for the Stars snaps their winning-streak at three games, as they have been unable to reach four consecutive wins on five separate occasions this season.

On Monday, the Stars will wrap up a five-game series at Pensacola Bayfront Stadium. Huntsville will send RHP Andy Moye (4-10, 4.37 ERA) to the bump while Pensacola will counter with RHP Shaun Ellis (3-1, 3.55 ERA). First pitch is at 7:00 PM.

Final: Pensacola 7 Huntsville 4

And just like that, Huntsville's 3 game winning streak is over. Pensacola fought back to take a 7th inning lead and hold on to defeat the Stars 7-5 Sunday afternoon in Pensacola. Righty Ariel Pena drew the starting assignment for the Stars. Pena finished with a no decision, but left with the lead. He worked 5 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits, 5 walks, and struck out 6. Pena also uncorked 2 wild pitches. The Blue Wahoos got to Pena in the first, but then he settled down and was cruising by the 4th. Then, in the 5th, he completely lost the strike zone, and if not for a double play ball, the damage could have been much worse. Pena needed 102 pitches to get through 5 with 59 of them for strikes. He also had a 6-2 GO/FO ratio.

After Pena departed, Arcenio Leon was brought in. Leon (1-6, 6.88) worked a 1-2-3 6th, but could not get an out in the 7th, allowing all 3 batters he faced to reach before being lifted. For the night, Leon worked 1 inning, allowing 3 runs on 1 hit and 2 walks. The hit allowed was a 2 run home run. Leon was tagged with the loss. Greg Holle was called on to get out of the jam in the 7th. He was not able to. Holle allowed a triple to the first batter he faced, which drove in an inherited runner. The next batter knocked in the Blue Wahoos 7th run with a sacrifice fly, giving them their winning margin. Holle's line was 2 innings, 1 run on 1 hit with 2 strike outs.

Huntsville Box Score

The Stars offense fought back from an early deficit to take a lead, but the Blue Wahoos pitchers were able to hold Huntsville off the board after taking back the lead. After 3 home runs and 6 RBI's last night, first baseman Jason Rogers hit another home run tonight. It was his 14th on the season, tying him with Brock Kjeldgaard for the team lead. Third baseman Mike Walker was the only Stars hitter with more than one hit. Walker went 2-3 with a double and a walk. Shortstop Hector Gomez hit his first home run on the season, a 3 run shot in the 6th, which gave the Stars the lead at the time. Chadwin Stang tripled tonight to run his hitting streak to 6. It was the first triple of the season for Stang at the AA level. Nick Shaw reached base twice, a single and a walk, and drove in Stang with a sacrifice fly. Rene Tosoni had the Stars other hit, a first inning single.

As a team, the Stars struck out 14 times, a season high.

Nashville's Khris Davis Goes 2-For-4 For Season-Best 4 RBIs

Nashville Sounds

METAIRIE, La. - The Nashville Sounds powered past the New Orleans Zephyrs with a big first inning Sunday night at Zephyr Field to set up the 7-1 victory and the team's second road series win of the year: taking the four-game set three games to one.

Sounds outfielders Khris Davis and Cole Garner provided the two extra-base knocks that gave Nashville the early 6-0 advantage. With one out and the bases loaded, Davis hit a double off the right-field wall for the first three runs of the inning.

Batting eighth Cole Garner stepped to the plate with two on and two outs and connected for his eighth home run of the season. The three-run jack scored Davis and Blake Lalli, who reached base on balls.

The six-spot matches the most runs scored in one inning by the Sounds this season, having also collected six runs in the 7th inning against Fresno on May 9.

Khris Davis continued the action for Nashville in the third inning with a solo home run, his 12th, to lead-off the frame. He finished the night 2-for-4 and a season-best four RBIs.

In his seventh Triple-A start, right-handed pitcher Jimmy Nelson (2-3) kept the Zephyrs to just three hits over six innings of work to pick up his second win and quality start with Nashville.

The Z's worked one run off Nelson in the second without recording a hit. Nelson walked his first two batters and Matt Downs' groundout later in the inning got New Orleans on the board.

Nelson fanned seven Z's and walked three before giving way to reliever Kyle Heckathorn in the seventh inning. Heckathorn held New Orleans to two hits across 1 1/3 innings. [Zach] Kroenke entered with one out and two on in the seventh and retired his two batters faced to avoid damage. Jesus Sanchez pitched a scoreless ninth.

New Orleans' pitcher Jay Jackson (1-1) was charged with the loss, after the Sounds touched the right-hander for seven runs across five innings.

Nashville batters finished with seven hits, as Robinzon Diaz and Garner both extended their season-best hits streaks to seven and five games respectively.

The Sounds return to Greer Stadium Monday night to host the Albuquerque Isotopes (Dodger affiliate) to a four-game series. Throwing for Nashville in game one will be lefty Chris Narveson (2-6, 6.42) opposite the Isotopes' RHP Matt Palmer (5-3, 3.72). The night will be Greer Stadium's first Peanut Free Night, presented by the Allergy, Asthma & Sinus Center.

Final: Helena 8, @Ogden 6

Helena box score

The Brewers weathered four Ogden runs between the 8th and 9th innings to hang on for the win. 4th-rounder Taylor Williams had a pretty decent start, allowing two runs (one earned) on a hit and a walk in five innings while fanning three. His buddy, 3rd-rounder Barrett Astin, continues to struggle, here allowing three runs (albeit all unearned) in 1.2 innings. The former Arkansas starter has yet to have a really clean, let alone dominant, game. Andy Hillis finally allowed an earned run but still picked up the save.

Dustin Houle paced the offense with three hits, including a walk. Second baseman Nathan Orf was one of three other Brewers with multiple hits; Orf, an undrafted free agent out of Baylor who's from Montee Ball's hometown of Wentzville, MO, has been a pleasant surprise for Helena, showing a real knack for getting on base. With two hits, a walk, and a HBP today, he pushed his OBP to .483.

Omar Garcia was back in the lineup after leaving Thursday's game early and continues to succeed atop the order, reaching base three times today with a single and two walks and swiping his 11th bag. Adam Giacalone was 1-5 to drop his average to a shameful .480.

Helena play-by-play

I guess the Brewers don't use the contact play with Houle:

Helena Top of the 2nd

  • Dustin Houle singles on a ground ball to center fielder Jacob Scavuzzo.
  • With Jalen Harris batting, wild pitch by Zachary Bird, Dustin Houle to 2nd.
  • With Jalen Harris batting, wild pitch by Zachary Bird, Dustin Houle to 3rd.
  • Jalen Harris grounds out, shortstop Dillon Moyer to first baseman Jesus Valdez.
  • Angel Ortega grounds out, second baseman Jesmuel Valentin to first baseman Jesus Valdez.
  • Dionis Hinojosa grounds out to first baseman Jesus Valdez.

Here's the story behind Astin's unearned runs; his first inning was three-up, three-down:

Ogden Bottom of the 8th

  • Alex Santana grounds out, third baseman Jalen Harris to first baseman Adam Giacalone.
  • Joey Curletta called out on strikes.
  • Dillon Moyer walks.
  • Jesmuel Valentin singles on a line drive to left fielder Charlie Markson. Dillon Moyer to 2nd.
  • Jacob Scavuzzo reaches on a fielding error by third baseman Jalen Harris. Dillon Moyer to 3rd. Jesmuel Valentin to 2nd.
  • Pat Stover walks. Dillon Moyer scores. Jesmuel Valentin to 3rd. Jacob Scavuzzo to 2nd.
  • Justin Chigbogu singles on a line drive to right fielder Michael Ratterree. Jesmuel Valentin scores. Jacob Scavuzzo scores. Pat Stover to 2nd.
  • Pitching Change: Andy Hillis replaces Barrett Astin.
  • With Jesus Valdez batting, wild pitch by Andy Hillis, Pat Stover to 3rd. Justin Chigbogu to 2nd.
  • Jesus Valdez grounds out, second baseman Nathan Orf to first baseman Adam Giacalone.

Hillis stranded the tying runs in scoring position to end the game:

Ogden Bottom of the 9th

  • Kyle Farmer grounds out, shortstop Angel Ortega to first baseman Adam Giacalone.
  • Alex Santana grounds out, third baseman Jalen Harris to first baseman Adam Giacalone.
  • Joey Curletta singles on a ground ball to left fielder Charlie Markson.
  • Dillon Moyer walks. Joey Curletta to 2nd.
  • Jesmuel Valentin singles on a line drive to center fielder Omar Garcia. Joey Curletta scores. Dillon Moyer to 2nd.
  • With Jacob Scavuzzo batting, wild pitch by Andy Hillis, Dillon Moyer to 3rd. Jesmuel Valentin to 2nd.
  • Jacob Scavuzzo grounds out, third baseman Jalen Harris to first baseman Adam Giacalone.
