So as the Brewers' site own 40-man roster shows, LHP Miguel De Los Santos (career stats), the September 2012 waiver claim from Texas who is now out-of-options, is on the 40-man roster, but not really, because he had visa issues this past March. That allowed the Brewers to stash him on the restricted list.

At the same time this spring, De Los Santos was also experiencing shoulder problems, and word came out he'd undergo surgery that would sideline him until at least July.

As Rotoworld noted, the southpaw has a career 13.6 K/9 rate in the minors and a low-90s fastball and plus changeup, and should have a future as a late-inning reliever.

So if the visa issues have been cleared up, you'd think the Brewers would have to place him on their 60-day DL as he rehabs in Maryvale (and thus a big-league minimum salary).

And if his visa issues still haven't cleared up, my goodness, what's up with that.

We'll send out the Adam / Tom / Todd batphone tweet and hope for a Gord Ash reply soon.

Moye Wins Pitcher of the Week Award

By Alex Cohen / Huntsville Stars

Just a few days following having a bid for a no-hitter broken up in the ninth inning, Stars starting pitcher Andy Moye got his revenge in being named the Southern League Pitcher of the Week from July 2nd-8th.

Against the Chattanooga Lookouts on July 3rd, Moye pitched 8.1 innings, giving up a single to Rafael Ynoa with one out in the ninth inning en route to leading the Stars to a 2-0 series-clinching victory. Righty Kevin Shackelford came on in relief of Moye at the point to finish off the third one-hitter on the year for the Stars pitching staff. The one-hitter was the only start of the week for the Alpharetta, GA native.

For Moye, the one-hitter was his the second of the season against Chattannoga. During the Stars opening series of the 2013 season, the 25-year-old righty combined with righty Greg Holle to one-hit the Lookouts in a seven-inning game on April 7th at AT&T Field.

On the season, Moye is 4-9 with a 4.16 ERA. His two complete games on the season and three starts of eight innings or longer both lead the Stars. Moye has given up two earned runs or less in three of his last four outings.

Moye is the Stars first pitcher to win the Southern League Pitcher of the Week award in almost two full seasons. The last pitcher to win the award from Huntsville is current Milwaukee Brewers hurler Wily Peralta, who got the nod in 2011 (July 25th- August 1st).

His swing looks so effortless. He might well still be tapping into his power potential. He's going to hit a lot of HRs in Miller Park, even if it's only as a platoon bat facing righties.

#17 is as easy a swing as you'll ever see on an opposite-field shot.

He has a very efficient swing - no wasted movement at all. His head stays very still as opposed to someone like Gomez who is sort of all over the place and still makes it work.

Final: Huntsville 2 Tennessee 0 (Game 1)

In his 3rd AA start, Huntsville pitcher David Goforth threw a 2 hit, 7 inning shutout leading the Stars to a 2-0 victory in game 1 of their double header with the Smokies Monday evening. Goforth (2-1, 4.60) earned his 2nd victory, allowing just those 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 4. It took only 83 pitches, 53 for strikes, for Goforth to finish off the Smokies. He also posted a 8-5 ground out to fly out ratio. David was hitting 93 on the radar gun, which Alex Cohen explained was about 3 MPH slow, so he was really hitting 96. It was the 2nd shutout for the Stars in their last 5 games (Andy Moye's near no hitter).

Huntsville Box Score

On offense, the Stars were led by third baseman Mike Walker. As a team, the Stars had 5 hits, 3 were from Walker. Walker drove in both Huntsville runs with a 2 out, 2 run double in the 4th. It was the lone extra base hit for the Stars in the game. Brock Kjeldgaard and Nick Shaw each singled for the Stars other hits. Shaw also stole his 5th base on the season. Rene Tosoni drew 2 walks and Kjeldgaard drew 1. Kentrail Davis was hit by a pitch t be the Stars only other baserunner.

Huntsville Play By Play

The 4th inning rally for the Stars

Huntsville Top of the 4th

Rene Tosoni flies out to center fielder Matt Szczur.

Jason Rogers strikes out swinging.

Kentrail Davis hit by pitch.

Brock Kjeldgaard walks. Kentrail Davis to 2nd.

Mike Walker doubles (9) on a line drive to right fielder John Andreoli. Kentrail Davis scores. Brock Kjeldgaard scores. Mike Walker to 3rd on the throw.

Adam Weisenburger strikes out swinging.

Tennessee tried rallying in the 6th, but an out on the bases short circuited that.

Tennessee Bottom of the 6th

Rafael Lopez walks.

Offensive Substitution: Pinch-hitter Jonathan Mota replaces Zach Rosscup.

Jonathan Mota grounds into a force out, shortstop Hector Gomez to second baseman Nick Shaw. Rafael Lopez out at 2nd. Jonathan Mota to 1st.

Matt Szczur flies out to right fielder Brock Kjeldgaard.

Arismendy Alcantara singles on a ground ball to right fielder Brock Kjeldgaard. Jonathan Mota to 2nd.

With Javier Baez batting, David Goforth picks off Jonathan Mota at 2nd on throw to Hector Gomez

Game 2 of the doubleheader, and game 5 of the series is going on right now. Brooks Hall (0-3, 8.24) is on the bump for the Stars. You can join Stars Radio Broadcaster Alex Cohen here to listen to the game. This game will also be broadcast on MiLB TV for those with a subscription. Remember to turn the sound down on the TV and the sound up on the Stars Radio Network.

Midseason Prospect Update Chat With JJ Cooper

Grant (NYC): Prior to his injury, Robert Stephenson was dominating the MWL, so I was expecting to see him higher than where you had him ranked. Your thoughts? Could he skip over the CAL once healthy and play for Pensacola?

J.J. Cooper: In an initial list, Stephenson was higher, but a number of scouts and front office player personnel people we talked to thought he was too high on the initial list because he's still a long ways from the big leagues. As they saw it, guys with similar stuff and more track record at higher levels should rank ahead of Stephenson so we made an adjustment. I think it's more likely that Stephenson could move quickly through Bakersfield rather than skip it altogether, but if he remains in Dayton all year, I do think he could start next year in Pensacola, a la Daniel Corcino.

Brett (Chicago): What do you make from Albert Almora's season so far? If he continues hitting the way he has been, could he be a top 10 prospect next year? What current big leaguer would you compare him to?

J.J. Cooper: Probably not top 10 as the pre-draft scouting report remains--a lot of 6s but not many/any 7s. But a top 20 spot is very realistic.

Chris (Chicago): If Kris Bryant would have signed earlier (hopefully he does), would he be in the top 50? And if so, where would you put him? Thank!

J.J. Cooper: No. We don't include current draftees in our midseason Top 50 whether they have signed or not.

John (Minnesota): What will it take for Jameson Taillon to be considered a "top" pitching prospect?

J.J. Cooper: He's the third-ranked pitcher on this list. That's a top pitching prospect right now.

Mike (Pittsburgh): When Polanco is ready, would you put him CF and slide McCutchen over? I've heard he is a much better defender than McCutchen

J.J. Cooper: I think Polanco ends up being the right fielder with McCutchen in center and Marte in left.

Andy (Houston, TX): How close were Tyler Glasnow and Robert Stephenson to making the list?

J.J. Cooper: Stephenson's on the list at No. 27. Glasnow is written up in the breakout/just missed guys.

scott (ny): How good do you think Gregory Polanco can be and will he crack the top 10 next season?

J.J. Cooper: Sky is the limit with this guy. He's in the consideration for the offseason Top 10, with the caveat as mentioned before that making the Top 100 Top 10 is tougher than making the midseason Top 10 because of the addition of draftees. It's hard to remember that at this time last year, he was just emerging as a breakout prospect coming from nowhere. We're pretty proud of last year's breakout prospect list (http://www.baseballamerica.com/online/prospects/prospect-pulse/2012/2613646.html) ($). Of the 12 guys on last year's midseason breakout list, four are in the big leagues now (Carter Capps, Tony Cingrani, Trevor Rosenthal and Dan Straily). Another four are in the new Top 50 (Polanco, Kyle Crick, Mike Foltynewicz and Adam Eaton). And of the other four, Jorge Bonifacio, Jimmy Nelson and Wilmer Flores all rank among their organization's top prospects while only Miles Head looks like a potential miss. If you scroll down to the steady improvement list, Oswaldo Arcia, Ryan Lavarnway and Bruce Rondon are big leaguers. Austin Hedges, Aaron Sanchez and Yordano Ventura are in the Top 50 this year and Roughned Odor and Luis Heredia would make cases to be in a current Top 100. Only the injured Adys Portillo has struggled from that list

wit10born (Seattle): How long before the Cubs consider trading Voglebach? He has no place at Wrigley except as a DH or should Rizzo sustain a major injury.

J.J. Cooper: How much value does Vogelbach have when he's in Class A? The Cubs are better off letting him develop and down the road he'll either not make it, or if he continues to hit, he'll have much more value as a Triple-A masher than as a guy who's done it in Class A. That being said, even if he continues mashing, the trade market for first base/DH guys is never all that healthy.

Something screwy going on with the box scores but at least I know that Tyrone Taylor hit another dinger. Shame he didn't make any mid season lists.

Old article, I'm not sure if I linked it last year or not, but since the issue has been discussed around here I'm linking. Even if you read it when it was originally posted it's worth reading again.

Subscriber Content, the Pirates and Cards make the list in a good way.

Midseason Prospect Update: Picking Five Organizations On A Roll And Five That Have Struggled

Pittsburgh Pirates: The Pirates’ patient approach with righthander Gerrit Cole has paid off, as he added life to his fastball in time to make an immediate impact once he arrived. The next wave of Pirates prospects will be led by outfielder Gregory Polanco, who before long will give the Pirates a rare outfield where all three members are legitimate center fielders. Add in the step-by-step improvement of Dilson Herrera, Alen Hanson and Josh Bell, the steady climb of righthander Jameson Taillon, the rapid development of Tyler Glasnow, the surprise power of Stetson Allie and the return to form of Tony Sanchez, and the Pirates’ future (and present) looks brighter than at any point since Barry Bonds left town.

St. Louis Cardinals: No. 1 in our organization talent rankings coming into the season, St. Louis has watched nine members of last offseason’s Top 30 prospects list pitch in the big leagues this year, including rookie of the year candidate Shelby Miller. Despite that heavy graduation rate, St. Louis still has one of the best collections of talent in the minors, led by outfielder Oscar Taveras, hard throwing righthanders Carlos Martinez and Michael Wacha and steady second baseman Kolten Wong.

Another subscriber article.

Midseason Prospect Update: 10 Breakthrough Prospects For 2013

Tyler Glasnow, rhp, Pirates: Glasnow is not close to being a finished product. At times, he simply can’t find the strike zone, missing high and low, arm-side and glove-side. That’s somewhat to be expected from a 6-foot-7 19-year-old who is still learning how to repeat his delivery. But Glasnow’s stuff is good enough that hoping to draw a walk is sometimes a hitter’s best bet. Glasnow’s 93-97 mph fastball seems even livelier because of the long stride Glasnow takes on his way to the mound. And he’s showing signs of improved control. With his size, velocity and solid breaking ball, Glasnow has front-line starter potential.

Jesse Winker, of, Reds: If you’re going to be a prospect as a left fielder, you better hit. Winker is likely limited to left field because of his below-average speed and adequate arm, but he shows signs of being able to hit enough that the Reds won’t care. The 19-year-old has hit for solid power as a pro, a relief to scouts after a power outage as a prep senior that dropped his draft stock. He uses a sweet swing and excellent-for-his-age pitch recognition to work counts, pepper line drives and draw walks.
