My proposed trade scenario

Ok let me break this down. I have done a lot of studying other teams, and needs, and who is buying and what they want and this is the scenario I would like to see.......also would like to see some of your idea scenarios also

TRADE 1: John Axford, Francisco Rodriguez, and Mike Gonzalez to the Atlanta Braves for Prospects J.R. Graham (RHP) and Christian Bethancourt ©

J.R. Graham RHP Has all the tools to be a great starter; is a groundball pitcher that is agressive and can reach 97 mph with his fastball. I believe he has a high ceiling and is a fantastic athlete. the Braves need bullpen guys bad with Jonny Venters and Eric O'Flaherty done for the season, so Ax K-Rod and Mike gonz would be welcome additions

Christian Bethancourt C Maldonado is not in the future plans; he is a defense first catcher but he really isn't that fantastic on defense ......Christain Bethancourt is a defense first catcher that is fantastic at it he has a cannon for a arm and blocks the plate with the best of them and with good coaching his hitting could become solid because he does have a nice swing

TRADE 2: Yovanni Gallardo to the San Francisco Giants for prospects Chris Stratton (RHP) and Joe Panik (IF)

Chris Stratton RHP The Giants need a starting pitcher bad right now and I believe they will make a major push for Gallardo. with Chris Stratton, the Brewers will get a pitcher with very good stuff. he throws a slider curve and changeup all very well to go along with his 94 mph Fastball (Sounds like Yo from 2 Years ago). the good part about it is he will be Major league ready in a year or two max

Joe Panik IF A left handed IF that can play SS and 2B and I'm sure he could pick up 3B with the right coaching. with as many right handers we have in our lineup a good utility lefty would be nice to have in the future. he isn't a power guy but he makes great contact and rarely strikes out and draws a lot of walks

It's interesting to me that 3 RPs net more in return in quality than Gallardo nets as a #2/3 for 2.5seasons in your trade scenarios. Currently Graham and Bethancourt are Atl's #1,2 prospects. While Stratton/Panik are Giants #3/4 prospects.

As Melvin put it, he has to be wowed to trade Gallardo and if Stratton/Panik don't wow me. I would definitely shoot for Kyle Crick for Gallardo plus Stratton plus another prospect any of the trio of Clayton Blackburn/Eric Surkamp/ and Adalberto Mejia. Blackburn/Mejia 20yr olds that could possess future promise you look for in these trades while Crick is the type of Stud Pitching prospect you expect for a guy like Gallardo.

On the Atlanta side, You may be on to something with Bethancourt being available since Gattis needs a home on the field and with Uptons/Heyward the Braves are likely looking at making Bethancourt expendable. Though they could keep Bethancourt and actually make Gattis expendable.

Our ideas of Bethancourt or Susac would fall in line with making Lucroy available and trading him. I could definitely see a trade that brings in a catcher make the phone calls/offers come in for Lucroy.

The things in your trade is that Gonzalez and KRod are FAs after this year Who both were cheaply signed, that gives an idea of their value. Axford is a guy who is approaching 2nd Arbitration and while you or I may not agree with it, he is headed for a bigger payday than the 5mil he earns this season with his closer experience. Probably in the 8mil range. My guess is Axford will be turned in to a FA and signed for less money but in my scenario that too makes him a rental. Many of our relievers will be coveted but relief pitchers especially those that have jumped around, arent going to bring much back in trade. The big return in RP trades happen from Closers that began their career with the current team earned the roll and still have team owned service time. So the guys like Glen Perkins/Bobby Parnell are the big value RPs while are guys minus Henderson are just of the throw it in trade maybe with a Vet and net a higher prospect in return.

The reason I have ax k-rod and mike gonzo getting those higher prospects is like you said with gattis ....I believe bethancourt is expendable couple that with the braves are in desprate need to BP pitchers I believe they could get Graham as well....Because Graham is indeed their number 1 prospect but he has had trouble maintaining consistency at times that is why Terahan is on the big league roster and not him

and reguarding the Yo Gallardo trade the giants are also desperate for a SP with experience but I don't think they would be willing to get rid of Crick because I believe the Giants are in love with him and wouldn't want to trade him for a pitcher that has had bad velocity drop like Gallardo and that is why they throw in Panik and possibly a third prospect to get Yo

Your SF offer is an offer I can see being given to Melvin, I just think it's one Melvin rightfully should turn down.

I can see maybe giving up 1 of those two in the Atl trade but still find that reaching. The upside in our RPs are nothing like what those two possess.

San Diego could be one of those buyers for Gallardo that may surprise in doing so and net a bevy of prospects with some high potential.

This deal will never happen as it is a very lopsided deal in favor of the Brewers. The Braves would have to be extremely desperate in order to do this deal and I don't see them getting that desperate especially over relievers. You might get one of those players for Axford, K-Rod, and Gonzalez but not both and that is pushing it. I don't believe Atlanta would have any interest in Axford and K-Rod Gonzalez though is another story. Gonzalez is not going to bring over either Graham or Bethancourt. Someone that I could see the Brewers getting for a Gonzalez deal would be Edward Salcedo, 3B or Cody Martin, RHP.
