Since June 14th, we've maintained the "Your 2013 Helena & Maryvale Brewers" thread -- if you haven't read through it yet, now's as good a time as any to prepare for the rookie squads tonight.

We've got games on seven levels on the docket tonight, and to my knowledge, seven diligent, dedicated Link Reporters each taking on the details at each level.

All I (and all our readers) can say is "Thank You, Thank You, Thank You"! :)

Finally for now, how convenient of the big league club to play a matinee today. I'm guessing that the later-night audio with Steve may be popular tonight, among friends, families, and diehard curious fans. Enjoy!!

Steve is always an enjoyable listen, we're fortunate to have such good broadcasters up and down the chain.

I had mentioned in another thread that I was looking forward to redeeming my April T-Rat tickets on the coming home stand but I just looked at the weather report and rain is expected Fri-Tue in the area which of course would be exactly the games I was planning to attend. It's a conspiracy I swear, all I want to do is play with the new Stalker gun... *sigh*.

Max Walla just made a Willie Mays type over the shoulder catch with his back to the IF in front of the wall in right center. I didn't think he caught it initially.

I'm soo glad that RHP Frankie De La Cruz is back in Nashville's rotation... even if it's only for a couple of starts while the younger pitchers get skipped for innings limits there's no way this is a good move, it's a waste of opportunity for someone that might actually be part of Milwaukee's rotation future. I realize he had a nice year for Nashville in 2011 but for whatever reason that was his high water mark for K/9 since 2005. A 6.2 BB/9 against a 5.5 SO/9 is not going to get it done.

Brevard County faced Michael Pineda earlier tonight in just his second rehab start since recovering from a torn labrum in his right shoulder suffered during Spring Training last season. The first three Manatees that faced Pineda recorded singles....

Brevard County Top of the 1st

  • -T. J. Mittelstaedt singles on a fly ball to left fielder Ben Gamel.
-Yadiel Rivera singles on a fly ball to right fielder Yeral Sanchez. T. J. Mittelstaedt to 3rd.
-Mitch Haniger singles on a fly ball to left fielder Ben Gamel. T. J. Mittelstaedt scores. Yadiel Rivera to 2nd.
    -Nick Ramirez strikes out swinging.
-Cody Hawn flies out to center fielder Mason Williams.
-Ben McMahan grounds into a force out, shortstop Ali Castillo to second baseman Angelo Gumbs. Mitch Haniger out at 2nd.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

This might make me a nerd as I still listen to Chris when I'm watching the T-Rat games on TV even though he's on about a 1 minute delay from the from TV broadcast. That's not a reflection on the TimeWarner Sports 32 broadcast, I actually like Bob and Brad. In fact Brad just did a nice analysis of Semmelhack's mechanics, Eric is one of those pitchers who falls off hard towards 1B and it affects his control and velocity.

I'm just unwilling to give up Chris' tidbits even when I'm watching on TV.

I will say that when MyNew32 broadcasts the game I do turn off the TV sound and just listen to Chris, I'm not a fan of that broadcast team at all.

Final: Jacksonville 2 Huntsville 0

For the 8th time this season, Huntsville was shut out as Jacksonville defeated the Stars 2-0 Thursday evening. Stars starting pitcher Ariel Pena pitched well, throwing a quality start, but the Huntsville bats were silenced on only 4 hits. Pena (5-6, 3.00) made 2 mistakes and the Suns made him pay. For the night, Pena went 6 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 5 hits and 2 walks while striking out 1. His mistakes were solo home runs allowed in the 4th and 6th. Alex Cohen mentioned Pena's fastball was clocked in the mid 90's on the radar gun tonight. Pena threw 87 pitches, 51 for strikes and had a 6-7 ground out to fly out ratio. Right hander Casey Medlen pitched the final 2 innings allowing only a walk.

Pena and Medlen can thank catcher Adam Weisenburger for helping make their nights easier. Weisenburger cut down all 3 would be base stealers tonight.

BASERUNNING

CS: Gutierrez (1, 2nd base by Pena, A/Weisenburger), Jensen (3, 2nd base by Pena, A/Weisenburger), Main (2, 2nd base by Medlen/Weisenburger).

Huntsville Box Score

If there was any positive to take away from tonight's game it was that first baseman Jason Rogers is heating up again. Rogers provided 3/4 of the offense for the Stars tonight, going 3-4 with a double. Coming into the game tonight, Rogers was 1-18 over his last 5 games and had seen his average drop below .250 for the season. Huntsville's other hit tonight was a double from third baseman Mike Walker. Catcher Adam Weisenburger drew a 8th inning walk to be the only other baserunner tonight for the Stars.

Team RISP: 0-for-3.

Team LOB: 4

No baserunners, no chances to drive them in. Rough night.

Huntsville Play By Play

Huntsville unable to make the Suns pay for their error in the 2nd

Huntsville Top of the 2nd

Brock Kjeldgaard strikes out swinging.

Mike Walker doubles (5) on a fly ball to center fielder Michael Main.

Adam Weisenburger reaches on a fielder's choice, fielded by shortstop Danny Black. Mike Walker advances to 3rd, on a missed catch error by shortstop Danny Black.

Hector Gomez grounds into a double play, shortstop Danny Black to second baseman Chris Gutierrez to first baseman Mark Canha. Adam Weisenburger out at 2nd.

Huntsville (0-2 2nd half, 29-41 overall) and Jacksonville will play game 3 of the series tomorrow night. Righty Taylor Jungmann (7-6, 4.13)will be on the hill for Huntsville. Game time is scheduled for 6:05 Central with Stars radio broadcaster Alex Cohen kicking things off at 5:50 with the pregame show. All games in this series are also available on MiLB TV for those with a subscription. Watch the game with the volume down and turn up the Stars radio broadcast.
