Here's a link to the Tampa - Dunedin box score.

Go Tampa Yankees!

Listen to the game here at 10:00 AM Central.

Here's the scoop -- The first half schedule ends this evening. Brevard County trails Dunedin by 1/2 game (odd number due to rainout cancellations).

If Dunedin wins at home in their matinee today, then they are first-half champs and the Manatees play for pride tonight. A Tampa victory means that it's all up to the 'Tees tonight, win you're in, the way it should be.

FINAL: DSL Braves 6, DSL Brewers 2

From a team standpoint, this is getting old.

The Brewers kids fell to 3-13 with their 8th consecutive loss, as the left side of the infield committed five errors, and five of the six Braves runs were unearned.

But there were individual highlights.

Let's temper things regarding RHP Felix Paulino by mentioning he just turned 22, and he stands 5'11. However, Paulino retired all 12 men he faced to wrap up this game, and has allowed only six hits and one walk in 14 innings of relief this season, fanning 12.

After two seasons with the DSL Nationals, 1B Juan De Los Santos now has a .436 OBP after 14 games of action with the Crew. The 19-year-old reached four times here (single, two walks, HBP).

Leudi Otano (DH'ing) and RF Yunior Santana each went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI to combine for all but one of the team's hits. That same duo similarly produced the only multi-hit efforts Tuesday as well.

DSL Braves Top of the 6th

Defensive Substitution: Raphachel Colatosti replaces third baseman Sthervin Matos, batting 5th, playing third base.

That's what happens when you commit three errors, all fielding, in the first five innings, as Matos did. Seven errors for Matos now, and five for SS Daniel Leonardo (two tonight).

Final: Jacksonville 9 Huntsville 4

Well, the second half of the season started the same way the first half ended, with a Stars loss. Tonight, the Jacksonville Suns hammered out 11 hits and scored 9 runs to knock off the Stars 9-4. Stars right hander Drew Gagnon got the start and struggled. Gagnon went 5 innings. He allowed 6 runs on 10 hits, 1 walk, and 2 hit batters. He also balked and threw a wild pitch. The good news, 7 of the 15 outs he recorded were via strike out. Gagnon (1-1, 7.20) threw 101 pitches with 64 being strikes. His ground out to fly out ratio was 3-2.

Arcenio Leon was first out of the bullpen tonight. After working as a starter through nearly the entire first half of the season, Leon has shifted to the bullpen. Tonight, he allowed just one hit, but that one hit cost 3 runs. After allowing 2 walks in the bottom of the 7th, Leon allowed a home run to put Jacksonville up 9-4 after Huntsville had clawed back to make it a 2 run game. Eric Marzec worked the 8th. Marzec hit Miami Marlins top prospect Jake Marisnick in the arm/wrist. It was the 2nd time Marisnick was hit tonight and the 3rd time a Suns player was hit in the game. Marisnick left the game, hopefully as a precaution. What the HBP might have led to was a pitch that sailed behind Kentrail Davis in the top of the 9th. This is game 1 of a 5 game series. We'll see if there is more to this storyline or not.

Huntsville Box Score

Huntsville got 8 hits and 4 runs as their offense picked up the pace from their last series, but it wasn't enough tonight. The Stars were led by Hector Gomez who went 2-4 with 2 RBI's and Brock Kjeldgaard, who's 2-3 night included a 2 run home run, the 100th of his career. Kjeldgaard was on base a 3rd time as he also drew a walk. Kentrail Davis doubled, walked and scored twice. Shea Vucinich, Adam Weisenburger, and Rene Tosoni each singled. Weisenburger and Nick Shaw each added a walk.

Huntsville Play By Play

Defensive Substitution: Chris Gutierrez replaces pitcher Adam Conley, batting 9th, playing second base.

Offensive Substitution: Pinch-hitter Shawn Zarraga replaces Drew Gagnon.

Shawn Zarraga flies out to right fielder Kyle Jensen.

Game 2 will be tomorrow evening in Jacksonville. Ariel Pena (5-5, 3.00) is scheduled to start for Huntsville. Game time is set for 6:05 Central with Stars play-by-play man Alex Cohen starting things at 5:50 with the pregame show.

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Nashville Sounds recorded a 5-4 victory over the division-rival Iowa Cubs in the first game of a doubleheader on Wednesday evening at Principal Park.

Chris Narveson (1-2) made his fifth rehab start for the Sounds and held the I-Cubs to two runs on four hits over five-plus innings of work, tossing 80 pitches to earn the victory. He walked one batters and struck out two.

The Sounds got off to a quick start against Iowa left-hander Brooks Raley (5-5), plating two runs in the top of the first inning.

Nashville loaded the bases with no outs on a pair of walks followed by an opposite-field Blake Lalli single to left. Sean Halton was subsequently hit by a Raley pitch to drive home the first run of the contest. Hunter Morris followed and grounded into a double play, with Khris Davis (2-for-2) scoring from third on the play to make it a 2-0 contest.

The I-Cubs responded in the home half of the opening frame. Logan Watkins led off with a triple to right off Narveson and scored on a Donnie Murphy groundout to cut the Sounds' lead to 2-1.

The Sounds increased their lead to 5-1 in the third with three two-out runs off Raley. After Nashville loaded the bases on a Khris Davis double and a pair of walks, Cole Garner plated a pair of runs with a two-out, bases-loaded single up the middle. Stephen Parker (2-for-3) followed with a first-pitch RBI single to center.

Iowa rallied in the bottom of the sixth inning against Kyle Heckathorn, plating a pair of runs before leaving the bags full in making it a 5-3 contest.

The I-Cubs loaded the bases with no outs as a result of a single, walk, and throwing error by Parker before former Sound Brad Nelson cut the Nashville lead to 5-2 with a sacrifice fly. Junior Lake followed with an RBI single and Brett Jackson drew a walk to re-load the bags with one out. Heckathorn recovered to retire the next two hitters to escape the inning and protect the two-run lead.

Closer Rob Wooten took over for the Sounds in the seventh. Watkins greeted the right-hander with his second triple of the night and pulled the Cubs within a run at 5-4 when he scored on a Murphy groundout. Wooten retired the next two batters in succession to close out the win and record his 14th save of the year.

Nashville Game 2

Sounds Held To One Hit In 1-0 Nightcap Defeat

Thornburg Takes Hard-Luck Loss For Nashville

DES MOINES, Iowa - Three Iowa Cubs pitchers held the Nashville Sounds to only one hit -- an Anderson De La Rosa single -- while recording a 1-0 victory in the second game of a doubleheader on Wednesday evening at Principal Park.

The game featured a pitchers' duel between Tyler Thornburg and Barret Loux as neither team scored over the first five innings of action.

Thornburg (0-9) took another in a series of recent hard-luck losses for Nashville, allowing one unearned run on five hits while striking out seven batters over six innings. The game's only run scored as a result of his own throwing error. Thornburg threw 91 pitches and received credit for a complete game.

With the clubs locked in a scoreless deadlock, Iowa finally broke through in the bottom of the sixth, plating an unearned run follow a throwing error on the Sounds hurler.

Logan Watkins led off the inning with a single. Later, Steve Clevenger hit a one-out comebacker to the mound which should have been an inning-ending double play but Thornburg misfired to second, leaving runners on first and second. Former Sound Brad Nelson drew a four-pitch walk to load the bases for Brent Lillibridge, who fanned for the second out. With pinch-hitter Donnie Murphy at the plate, Thornburg uncorked a wild pitch to allow Watkins to race home with the game's only run.

Brian Schlitter came on for the bottom of the seventh and retired the Sounds' 2-3-4 hitters in order to secure his fourth save of the year.

Hisanori Takahashi (1-0) worked one scoreless inning of relief to pick up his first win of the year for Iowa.

The teams continue the series with a 7:05 p.m. meeting on Thursday. Right-hander Frankie De La Cruz (1-6, 7.77) will toe the slab for the Sounds. Iowa will counter with right-hander Yoanner Negrin (1-2, 3.67).

Brevard ends first half on a high

'Tees complete sweep of Lakeland with 9-5 win

By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees

VIERA, Fla. - Despite not having a chance to earn a playoff spot, the Brevard County Manatees finished the first half on a high note with a 9-5 win over the Lakeland Flying Tigers on Wednesday night at Space Coast Stadium to complete a three-game sweep.

Brevard County (37-30) extended its longest winning streak of the season to five games as they posted eight or more runs in consecutive contests for the first time this season.

Every member of the Manatees' lineup reached base at least once, with eight of the nine batters recording at least one hit. Mitch Haniger and Ben McMahan each notched two hits and scored two runs, while Cody Hawn and Lance Roenicke had three hits apiece. Roenicke also had three RBI, while Hawn knocked in one more.

For the second straight night, T.J. Mittelstaedt went deep as his lone hit was a three run home run in the fourth inning. His eighth long ball of the year capped of a five-run frame and gave the Manatees a 6-2 lead.

Wednesday's game marked the second straight game in which Mittelstaedt had driven in three runs. Oddly enough, the only other time in his career in which he drove in three runs in back-to-back games was against the same team just over a year ago, in both ends of a doubleheader against the Flying Tigers on June 10, 2012.

David Goforth (7-5, 3.10) earned the victory by surrendering just two runs in five innings. Lakeland (30-38) managed five hits against the All-Star, as he allowed just two walks and fanned four.

The Dunedin Blue Jays had clinched the Florida State League North Division first half title earlier in the day by virtue of an 8-4 win over the Tampa Yankees. Had the Blue Jays lost any of their final four games, the Manatees would have used their five-game win streak to propel themselves to the title and a guaranteed playoff berth.

Instead, the second half of the season begins on Thursday night at 7:00 PM (6:00 Central), as the Manatees hit the road for the first of three against the Tampa Yankees (28-40) at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

Michael Pineda, who is on a Major League rehab assignment from New York, will get the start for Tampa. Brevard County will send Cody Scarpetta (0-2, 9.00) to the hill.

Manatees third baseman T.J. Mittelstaedt, seen here diving for a ball, homered for the second straight night as he hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning of Brevard County's 9-5 win over the Lakeland Flying Tigers on Wednesday night at Space Coast Stadium in Viera. Stars Drop Second Half Opener To Suns

By Alex Cohen / Huntsville Stars

To begin the second half of their season, the Huntsville Stars dropped the series opener against the Jacksonville Suns by a score of 9-4 at Bragan Field on Wednesday night.

Unfortunately for the Stars, they began trailing for most of the night early in the first. After starting pitcher Drew Gagnon began the bottom of the first by giving up back-to-back singles to outfielder Jake Marisnick and shortstop Danny Black, a balk from Gagnon gave the Suns a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, an RBI single from catcher J.T Realmuto scored Black to put Jacksonville up 2-0.

However, the lead for Jacksonville would not last for long. Following a leadoff walk in the top of the second inning by outfielder Kentrail Davis, fellow outfielder Brock Kjeldgaard launched a two-run homer off over the left-field wall to tie up the game. For Kjeldgaard, the homer was his 13th of the season and the 100th of his professional career.

Audio -- HR #100 for Kjeldgaard

For Jacksonville, that was the closest they would let the Stars get.

During the bottom half of the second inning, a two-run homer from outfielder Kyle Jensen and an RBI single from Black put the Suns up by three. For Jensen, the homer was his league-leading 16th of the season and eighth homer in his last 14 games.

One inning later, a sacrifice fly from outfielder Danny Pertusati put Jacksonville up 6-2.

The score stayed that way until the sixth inning, where the Stars were able to provide one last offensive surge. With starting pitcher Adam Conley (W, 7-2) still in the game, the Marlins 10th ranked prospect gave up a leadoff double to Davis and walked Kjeldgaard to begin the inning. After a groundout advanced both runners into scoring position, shortstop Hector Gomez plated both runners with a two-out, two-run single to cut the Stars deficit to two.

AUDIO - Gomez' two-run single

However, that momentum would vanish quickly. With reliever Arcenio Leon in the ballgame for the Stars in the seventh inning, Pertusati crushed a three-run homer off the Suns scoreboard in left-center field to make the score 9-4.

The loss for the Stars marked Gagnon's first defeat in Double-A, as he fell to 1-1 on the season with the Stars after giving up six runs in five innings while striking out seven batters.

On offense, Gomez and Kjeldgaard paced the Stars with two hits apiece.

The Stars and Suns will play game two of a five-game series at Bragan Field on Thursday. Huntsville will send RHP Ariel Pena (5-5, 3.00 ERA) to the bump as Jacksonville will counter with a starting pitcher that has yet to be determined. First pitch is at 7:05 PM (6:05 Central).
