32. Ryan Deeter - RHP, UCLA

33. Charles Leblanc - SS, Georges Vanier Secondary Sch. (Toronto)

35. Jesse Travis - RHP, Southwest Mississippi Community Col. (Summit, MS)

36. Jesse Weiss - 1B, Kenyon College (Gambier, OH)

37. JaVon Shelby - SS, Tates Creek Sr HS (Lexington, KY)

40. Kenneth Meimerstorf - RF, Bishop Gorman HS (Las Vegas, NV)

Any picks people are personally cheering to sign? I'm guessing (while being completely ignorant about details and backgrounds of each) that David Denson is going to be a tough sign. 6'4" 245 1B out of HS. I would think he would head to college and up his stock.

I saw a local news piece about Josh Matheson from Mankato. Sounded like he was intending to sign (in fact I'm a little surprised he hasn't already).

I don't see how the Brewers can sign Denson, according to BA they are already $234,400 over budget. The slot limit was $100K for that pick, for him to sign it looks like there would need to be motivation beyond financial reward.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there is some "wiggle" room to be over budget where the only ramifications would be a fine. Then at some point, a loss of draft pick the next year, right? Anyone know what those limits are? Or is that sealed in a Top Selig Secret envelope?

Did you click the link in my previous post? The little calculator next to each pick gives the total the Brewers can spend.

Assigned Pick Values, Bonus Pools By Team lays out the penalties for being a certain percentage over the pool amount. I quoted the part relating directly to Denson.

The total of each team’s assigned values is used to determine its bonus pool. Any bonus money spent in the first 10 rounds, or any in excess of $100,000 to a player drafted in rounds 11-40, counts against a club’s pool. If a player in the first 10 rounds doesn’t sign, his assigned value is removed from the team’s pool.

Ugh, great. I was worried he fell as far as he did because he's going to be a trickier sign.

I'd hate to see power potential (esp. from the LH side of the plate) like that slip away.

All of this is why the draft still needs a lot of work.

If I could sign one player left on this list, it would be Denson, but that whole conversation is ridiculous.

If these kids won't sign right now, which plenty of kids that were drafted by every team won't, then why were they even in this draft?

For the Brewers not to lose a pick next year they can give Denson $100k plus a signing bonus of $72,530. I am not sure if that would be enough or not to lure him away from a college commitment.

The Brewers can go 5% over their bonus pool without losing a draft pick (pay 75% "tax" on the excess over the slot dollars).

The BA link has the Brewers draft pool at $3,944,600. That # x 1.05 = 4,141,830.

They have the bonuses handed out by the Brewers top 10 rounds at 3,855,300.

4,141,830 - 3,855,300 = 286,530.

You can give a guy in rounds 11-40 $100k without it being counted against the bonus pool.

With all of this, I believe they can give Denson a $386,530 bonus without losing a draft pick next year.

That link shows the Brewers are $89k under budget after signing their top 10 picks?

Hmm, I looked at it 3 times today, they must have made an error and corrected it. There's still a chance then.

No there wasn't an error they were just assuming Ratterre would not sign below slot value and would sign for at or around slot value which then would have made the Brewers go over.

Nice to have someone with amazing raw power in the lower minors. If he doesn't strike out too much he could turn out to be something special.

Normally guys who are have raw power will normally strike out more as they expand their strike zone more.

I know that, I'm just saying that as long as he makes contact at a good enough pace to utilize his raw power.

Sweet! So, who should we start to cheer on next? ;)

Did you click the link in my previous post?

Sorry, no, I missed that. I generally don't get too much time to dig anymore, so I appreciate everyone here that can and providing the cliff notes. :)

In College World Series, and thus, not able to sign yet...Hobbs Johnson and Ryan Deeter.

Playing in a summer league, and thus, not pressed to sign immediately...Josh Matheson and Johnny Davis.

Already stated they won't sign...Ryan Yarbrough, Nick Eicholtz, and JaVon Shelby.

Publicly stated they haven't decided yet...Ky Parrott and Kenny Meimerstorf.

Thus, the most likely to sign next...Trevor Seidenberger, Luis Aviles, Charles Leblanc, Jesse Travis.

There are no college seniors left unsigned, so we may be getting near the end of the list of signees.

82, that is so cool...he was the next one I was really hoping for. I got the sense people thought he wouldn't sign when he was picked.

I would love to add the 40th Round Pick too, but in tweeting with him, I really get the sense that he'll go to college.
