Hoping that Fiers can at least find a happy medium between his AAA and major league numbers.

Jungmann... cruising. The three HRs he's given up in his last five outings are a bit concerning, but as I type this in his 50 innings since coming off the DL he has given up 30 hits.

Final: Chattanooga 8 Huntsville 1

Huntsville and Chattanooga did not engage in an old fashioned pitchers duel tonight. Instead, a pinch hit grand slam in the 6th blew the game open and the Lookouts cruised to an 8-1 win Saturday night at The Joe. Stars starting pitcher Taylor Jungmann saw his streak of consecutive quality starts come to an end tonight. Jungmann (7-6, 4.13) worked 5 1/3 allowing 5 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks while striking out 2. Jungmann cruised through the first 5 innings, allowing a 2 out, 2 strike solo home run in the 3rd, but ran into trouble in the 6th. A couple of hits and a couple of walks and the Lookouts had taken a 2-1 lead when Jungmann was relieved by Dan Meadows. Meadows was brought in to face a lefty, but the Lookouts countered with right handed hitting Brian Cavazos-Galvez and Cavazos-Galvez cleared the bases with a grand slam. 3 of the runs were credited to Jungmann. In his 5 1/3 innings of work, Jungmann threw 88 pitches, 55 for strikes and had a 7-4 ground out to fly out ratio.

The Stars bullpen was needed for 3 2/3 innings tonight. Dan Meadows recorded the final 2 outs in the 6th. His line was 2/3 innings, 1 run, 1 hit, 1 walk, and 1 home run allowed. Santo Manzanillo came in to pitch the 7th. He worked a clean inning, recording a strike out. Eric Marzec was called upon to work the 8th. He ended up only going 2/3 of an inning, leaving with an apparent injury. For the night, Marzec allowed 1 run on 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 1. Frankie De La Cruz finished the 8th and worked the 9th for Huntsville. He allowed 1 run on 1 hit, another pinch hit solo home run to lead off the 9th.

Huntsville Box Score

The Huntsville offense was again held in check by Lookouts pitching, managing only 1 run on 4 hits and 6 walks. Right fielder Kentrail Davis had half of the Stars hits, going 2-4 with a double and scoring the only Huntsville run. The run scored was Davis's team leading 41st. Brock Kjeldgaard had a single and shortstop Hector Gomez snapped an 0-29 run with a single in the 7th. Rene Tosoni drew 2 of the 6 Stars walks. Also drawing walks were Kjeldgaard, Nick Shaw, Adam Weisenburger, and Jason Rogers.

Team RISP: 0-for-10.

Team LOB: 10.

That's not going to get the job done.

Huntsville Play By Play

The Stars lone run was scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 3rd.

Sounds Outslugged By Z's, 6-3

Nashville's Sean Halton Goes Yard Twice In Loss

Nashville Sounds

Sean Halton (Mike Strasinger / Nashville Sounds)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Despite an impressive showing from the Pacific Coast League's hottest hitter Sean Halton, the Nashville Sounds were outslugged by the New Orleans Zephyrs 6-3 Saturday night in front of 10,011 fans at Greer Stadium.

Halton entered the game riding a season-best 10-game hitting streak and quickly extended the streak to 11 games with his home run in the second inning off New Orleans' starter Jared Rogers (2-1). The shot was driven hard over the left field wall and put the Sounds on top 1-0.

The slugger struck again in his next at-bat in the fourth inning, driving his second home run off the wall in left field. The shot scored two runs for the Sounds to make it 3-1.

The outing marks the eighth time a Sound has gone deep twice in one game, and is Halton's sixth two-homer game of his career.

But the Z's answered the Sounds' homers with two of their own. Kevin Kouzmanoff tied the game 1-1 in the fourth inning with a solo shot, but it was Donovan Solano's grand slam home run in the seventh that proved to be the decisive blow.

Sounds starting pitcher Mike Fiers was charged his second loss with Nashville, allowing five runs, four earned, on eight hits over 6 2/3 innings. The right-handed pitcher delivered nine strikeouts to only two walks before leaving the game when a comebacker hit [h]is throwing arm.

Kyle Heckathorn entered the game for Fiers to close out the inning and stayed in for the eighth to deliver two walks and allow New Orleans their final run on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly. Jesus Sanchez also saw work from the mound, pitching a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

Rogers picked up the win for New Orleans, limiting the Sounds to three runs on four hits over six innings of work. Chris Hatcher pitched the ninth inning for the Z's to record his league-leading 22nd save.

Offensively, Halton and catcher Blake Lalli both finished two-for-four, while [stephen] Parker's double in the seventh was the team's only other extra-base hit.

The Sounds will look to get their first win of the four-game series against the New Orleans Zephyrs (AAA-Marlins) Sunday at Greer Stadium 2:05 p.m. for Father's Day, presented by Sport Clips. Throwing for Nashville will be RHP R.J. Seidel (1-3, 4.86) opposite the Z's RHP Doug Mathis (2-5, 3.50).

The Sounds will be wearing military jerseys as a part of Piedmont Natural Gas Military Sunday, where families and friends of service men and women can receive admissions for $5 with a valid Military ID.

Final: Wisconsin 11, Kane County (Cubs) 5

Early offense leads to big Rattlers win

Wisconsin goes up 7-0 early and cruises to win

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

GENEVA, IL - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers scored four runs in the first inning and three more in the second to build an early 7-0 lead on the way to an 11-5 win over the Kane County Cougars Saturday night at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark. Victor Roache, Adam Giacalone, Mike Garza, and Max Walla each drove in two runs for Wisconsin in the game.

The Timber Rattlers (29-35) loaded the bases with one out against Kane County starting pitcher Dillon Maples. Orlando Arcia reached on an error, Tyrone Taylor singled, and Michael Reed drew a walk. Roache smacked the first pitch of his at bat to left for a two-run single and a 2-0 lead.

A walk to Giacalone reloaded the bases. Garza drew another walk from Maples to force in a run. Brent Dean knocked in the fourth run of the inning when he grounded into a force play at second.

Then, Walla was hit by a pitch thrown by Maples and the Cougars made a pitching change as the bases were reloaded. Justin Amlung entered the game and got the final out of the first.

But, Wisconsin got to Amlung for three runs in the top of the second inning. Arcia and Taylor started the inning with singles. Reed, who extended his on-base streak to 35 games with his walk in the first inning, doubled to right-center to drive in Arcia. Amlung got the first out, but Giacalone drove a single through the drawn in infield to plate both Taylor and Reed for a 7-0 Rattlers advantage.

Kane County (29-36) collected four hits and three runs against Wisconsin starting pitcher Preston Gainey in the bottom of the third. Bijan Rademacher knocked in the first run with a double. Later in the inning, Dan Vogelbach drove in Rademacher with a ground out. Jeimer Candelario plated the final run of the inning with a two-out RBI single.

Garza got one of those runs back with a two-out double in the top of the fourth inning to drive in Reed.

The Cougars made it 8-4 with an RBI single by Wilson Contreras in the bottom of the fourth.

Gainey worked a scoreless fifth inning and turn that 8-4 lead over to Eric Semmelhack for the sixth. Semmelhack kept the score at 8-4 as he worked three scoreless innings.

Then, the Rattlers tacked on three runs in the top of the ninth. Max Walla doubled to drive in two runs and scored later in the inning for an 11-4 lead.

The Cougars got the final run of the game when Rademacher homered to right with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Semmelhack ended the game by retiring the next batter. Semmelhack allowed three hits and one run in four innings of work to pick up his first professional save.

The win was the third straight for the Timber Rattlers.

Taylor went 3-for-6 and scored two runs for Wisconsin. Reed walked twice, stole two bases, drove in one run, and scored three runs for the Rattlers.

The final game of the series - and of the first half of the Midwest League schedule - is Sunday afternoon. Tyler Wagner (6-4, 3.00) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Kane County counters with Pierce Johnson (4-5, 3.45). Game time is 1:00pm. Tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM or timberrattlers.com starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 12:40pm.

HOME RUN:

KC:

Bijan Rademacher (2nd, 9th inning off Eric Semmelhack, 2 out)

WP: Preston Gainey (3-5)

LP: Dillon Maples (0-2)

SAVE: Eric Semmelhack (1)

TIME: 3:07

ATTN: 6,803

Wisconsin Boxscore

With Tyrone Freaking Taylor's 3-6 effort his AVE all the way up to .294, if he had a couple of more games in the first half he might have broken .300.

Chris was talking during the game about the boys giving Michael Reed the business during batting practice because he doesn't even hit HRs there. That's too bad, because power is really the only part of his game he's missing, but that's a big part considering he's a corner OF. Hopefully he gets in the weight room or naturally develops more power.

Michael Garza has been a bit of an error machine, but he's sporting a .295 AVE and an .803 OPS. If can keep it going he'll be worth keeping an eye ala Greg Hopkins from last season.

Brad mentioned the surprising platoon of Alfredo Rodriguez and Chris McFarland in his Future of the Franchise: Second Base piece. I've been intentionally leaving it alone because there hasn't been any explanation, but I'd rather rotate Rodriguez between 2B, 22, and 3B to get him his ABs so that all of McFarland, Rodriquez, Arcia, and Garza are getting regular reps. Rodriguez profiles as a utility player best case, why not get him regular work all over the IF now? I'm not thrilled about Arica losing ABs in that scenario, but it's better than McFarland sitting half the games.

***

Really not much from an individual standpoint, although it's fun to type "18-year-old 6'3" LHP" when describing Joan De La Cruz. De La Cruz now has a 12-to-1 K-to-BB ratio nine innings into the season, nice. 2nd-year switch-hitting Venezuelan catcher Kevin Martinez, who had the tough game you see above defensively, is only 18 himself as well.

When Cerveceritos bats weren't missing the ball (12 K's), they were beating it into the ground (ten groundouts, one flyout).

DSL Brewers Game Log

Raphachel Colatosti stole 14 bases in 17 attempts in 2012, but was pinch-run for down two runs after reaching on an 8th inning error. Our cryptic game log review tells us he may have tweaked something on his way to first base.

FINAL: FSL South 8, FSL North 1

Hanson homers, named All-Star MVP

Pirates prospect hits three-run blast to cap five-run fifth inning

By Jake Seiner / Special to MLB.com

http://www.milb.com/assets/images/5/8/0/50778580/cuts/480_Hanson_ASG_Mark_LoMoglio_upn7xd2n_vvbpqvcn.jpg

Alen Hanson acknowledges the crowd after earning All-Star MVP honors.

It's been a long three months for Alen Hanson. And that made his Saturday night all the sweeter.

The Pirates' No. 3 prospect was disappointed after hitting .255 without a homer in April and worked hard to climb out of the hole and emerge as one of the Florida State League's most dynamic players.

Hanson culminated that hard work by slugging a three-run homer and earning MVP honors as the South Division cruised past the North, 8-1, at the Florida State League All-Star Game in Dunedin.

"It's an honor, especially with the way I started the season," Hanson said through teammate Jonathan Rodriguez, who served as translator. "It wasn't quite the way I was expecting to start, so to get the opportunity to be an All-Star and perform like this is a dream come true for me."

Hanson, hitting .282 with a .773 OPS for the season, batted leadoff and went 1-for-5. Rodriguez and Palm Beach teammate Stephen Piscotty -- the Cardinals' No. 15 prospect -- also homered for the South. St. Lucie Mets left fielder Dustin Lawley pitched in with three hits.

The North took a 1-0 lead in the third after Yankees top prospect Gary Sanchez doubled and scored on a groundout by John Andreoli of the Daytona Cubs.

The South responded with a five-run fifth. Piscotty started it with a solo shot to right-center field, Lawley singled and Rodriguez walked before Curt Casali singled to load the bases. Charlotte Stone Crabs teammate Richie Shaffer lifted a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Lawley with the go-ahead run.

Hanson followed with a blast over the right-field fence, and the South never looked back.

"Prior to the at-bat, I was thinking that I wanted to help the team out with a sac fly or just put the ball in play and get the run in to tie the game," Hanson said. "After Shaffer got the sac fly, I just went up there looking for a pitch to hit up in the zone. I got it and put good wood on it."

Hanson called the experience "one of the best times so far in [my] career," adding it was especially enjoyable to compete with and against players he knew from his days in the Dominican Republic, like Rodriguez, Maikel Franco, Melvin Mercedes and Kennys Vargas.

"Actually being able to be at the All-Star Game and to be in the Home Run Derby with guys I know from back home, I enjoyed every moment," Hanson said. "I enjoyed it as much as possible. And to cap it off by having the game that I had at the plate and to win the game, it was fun."

Hanson was joined in the Home Run Derby by Lawley and Piscotty, among others. Lawley and Piscotty tied with North Division All-Stars Javier Baez and Nick Ramirez with six homers after the first round.

Because Baez and Ramirez had more homers coming into the Derby, they advanced to the finals, while Lawley and Piscotty were eliminated. The South duo got the last laugh, though, with Piscotty going deep and Lawley registering a game-high three hits with two runs scored in four at-bats in Saturday's game.

"I'll always remember that," Lawley said of his first professional All-Star Game. "It was cool. It was real laid-back and relaxed and everyone just went out and played like they know how to play. Really just relaxed out there, and it was fun."

For the North, Baez -- the Cubs' top prospect who was five days removed from a record-tying four-homer game -- doubled twice, while Sanchez and Carlos Alonso supplied the only other hits. Baez lost to Ramirez in the final of the Home Run Derby.

Mets No. 3 prospect Noah Syndergaard picked up the win with a scoreless inning.

Hoping that Fiers can at least find a happy medium between his AAA and major league numbers.

Jungmann... cruising. The three HRs he's given up in his last five outings are a bit concerning, but as I type this in his 50 innings since coming off the DL he has given up 30 hits.

Literally within five minutes of typing this Fiers gave up a grand slam and Meadows, relieving Jungmann, gave up a grand slam with three of the runners attributed to Jungmann.

I'm done.

It is a classy brawl because a Cards' affiliate was involved? Video at the link.

Brawl mars Redbirds-Isotopes game

Impressive.

Actually for me, the item to note is the excellent work done by the Isotopes announcer (Josh Suchon, I believe) -- not an easy thing to describe working solo on radio. Composed while painting the picture well for those not in the stands, and then providing game background from earlier to put the brawl in context.
