Brewers tied to top international prospects

According to Baseball America, the Brewers are one of the teams tied to top international prospects. However, I'm not an insider so I don't have the details. If anyone is an insider then some info on who the Brewers are linked to would be nice.

I'm on the road for a bit but I will look when I get back to the office. This would be the first time the Brewers have been linked to a top prospect this year, and would be welcome news.

I think the Brewers went with signability mostly because they didn't have a choice given their bonus pool.

The Brewers were directly linked to 1 of the 6:

Nicolas Pierre, of, Dominican Republic: A 16-year-old who plays in the IPL and trains with Nelson Montes de Oca, Pierre has projectable size (6-foot-3, 170 pounds), athleticism and doesn’t have one standout tool but is solid across the board. Pierre has similar speed to Rodriguez and, depending on how his body fills out, could stay in center field. Some scouts think he has a solid righthanded swing with a line-drive bat path, with the Brewers showing strong interest. “I’ve seen him make a lot of contact in games,” said one scout. “It’s not a lot of power, but a lot of hard contact. It seems like he kept getting better. To me, he’s one of the top outfielders.”

I'm sure over the next couple of weeks Ben will put out his top prospect lists with the teams mostly likely to sign, similar to what he did last year. BA's international coverage is excellent.

Thanks for sharing that. Definitely sounds like a guy to watch.

Wow. 6-3, 170lbs, 16 years old and possibly a CFer. He could be a big kid after a few years.

I don't disagree... but for comparison's sake, the 15th rounder David Denson is 6'4"/245 & doesn't turn 18 until November! Dude is already a monster.

Hmmm I would like to see a standout tool but having solid tools across the board, not to mention that there is a possibility of sticking at a premium position (CF), is still a plus. And the fact that he is making a lot of contact is encouraging. If and once he does fill out he should be able to hit more home runs.

Well, sure. But Denson is a 1B. If you can stick at CF being 6-3... wow.
