It's been a week since the Brewers top DSL prospect coming into the season, 18-year-old Carlos Belonis, executing a switch to CF, has played -- left in the 4th inning of last Monday's game.

19-year-old DSL 3B Sthervin Matos, who raked (relatively speaking for DSL numbers) two years ago but was sidelined by a torn knee meniscus for much of 2012, also has been idle for a while, having last played last Tuesday.

Final: Montgomery 13 Huntsville 2

The Montgomery Biscuits exploded for 13 runs on 19 hits including 4 home runs in defeating the Huntsville Stars 13-2. Huntsville did jump out to a 1-0 lead in the 2nd, but it was all Montgomery after that, scoring 12 straight runs. With the win, Montgomery clinched the series.

Arcenio Leon got the start for Huntsville tonight. Leon was looking to turn it around from his last outing where he didn't retire a batter. Leon (1-5, 7.05) did improve from his last outing, but it wasn't enough. Arcenio worked 4+ innings allowing 5 runs on 8 hits and 2 walks and a wild pitch while striking out 3.

The Stars bullpen was called on to work 4 innings. Lefty Brian Garman was the first out of the pen. He came on in relief of Leon in the 5th. In his 1 inning of work, Garman allowed a run on 3 hits. 22 year old Brooks Hall was brought in to work the 6th. Hall had a night to forget. In his 2nd AA outing, Hall lasted only 1/3 inning, allowing 6 runs on 6 hits and a balk. 3 of the hits were home runs. Frankie De La Cruz was a bright spot out of the pen tonight. Coming on in relief of Hall in the 6th, De La Cruz worked 1 2/3 scoreless, allowing a hit while striking out 3. Dan Meadows had the 8th. Control was an issue for Dan tonight as he allowed a run on 1 hit and 3 walks and a wild pitch, while striking out 1.

The 11 run defeat wasn't the largest margin of defeat this season. Back on April 27th, the Stars lost to the Mississippi Braves 14-0.

Huntsville Box Score

The Stars had the lead in the 2nd after Brock Kjeldgaard homered, his 11th, one off the league lead. Kjeldgaard added a single later to finish the night 2-4 with a run scored and RBI. Second baseman Nick Shaw was on base 3 times tonight. Shaw went 1-3 with a walk and a HBP. Mike Walker and Robinzon Diaz each went 1-4 with singles for the Stars other hits. Kentrail Davis drew his team leading 36th walk tonight. Shea Vucinich and Joey Paciorek, both of whom entered the game late, each drew a walk in their only plate appearances.

Huntsville Play By Play

Brock Kjeldgaard's home run.

Huntsville Top of the 2nd

Jason Rogers strikes out swinging.

Rene Tosoni pops out to third baseman Riccio Torrez in foul territory.

Brock Kjeldgaard homers (11) on a fly ball to center field.

Mike Walker singles on a ground ball to shortstop Shawn O'Malley.

Robinzon Diaz singles on a ground ball to shortstop Shawn O'Malley, deflected by third baseman Riccio Torrez. Mike Walker to 2nd.

Shawn Zarraga strikes out swinging.

The 5th and final game of the series is scheduled for 7:05 Central Tuesday night. Right hander Andy Moye (3-6, 4.10) will be on the mound for Huntsville (27-35). Moye will look to keep rolling as his last start was a 7 inning shutout win on June 6th. Don't forget to join Stars radio broadcaster Alex Cohen starting at 6:50 for the pre game show. This game is also available through MiLB TV for those with subscriptions.

FINAL (10 Inn.): Brevard County 4, Jupiter (Marlins) 2

Mittelstaedt's heroics lead 'Tees past Jupiter

Brevard hammers Hammerheads with three homers 4-2 win

By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees

Manatees third baseman T.J. Mittelstaedt leaps onto home plate and into a mob of his teammates in celebration as he hit a two-run, walk-off homer in the bottom of the tenth to give Brevard County a 4-2 win over the Jupiter Hammerheads on Monday night at Space Coast Stadium. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography)

VIERA, Fla. - When given the chance to win a game with a walk-off hit, T.J. Mittelstaedt will take it. At least that's what he has demonstrated this season for the Brevard County Manatees as he hammered a tenth-inning homer to give the 'Tees a 4-2 win over the Jupiter Hammerheads in ten innings on Monday night at Space Coast Stadium.

It was Mittelstaedt's third walk-off hit of the season for the Manatees (32-29), including a homer against St. Lucie on May 16 and a double against Clearwater on May 25. He also scored the winning run as a pinch runner on May 31 versus Daytona, when Yadiel Rivera brought him home with a double hit in the bottom of the tenth.

Mittelstaedt almost didn't have the opportunity to be the hero as Cameron Garfield looked to end the game with blast of his own in the bottom of the ninth. Jupiter (32-30) left fielder Brent Keys had other ideas as he leapt halfway over the wall to retrieve the ball from the visiting bullpen to extend the game.

Keys nearly keyed a win for Jupiter as he scored in the first inning and then again in the ninth to tie the game. With two outs in the ninth and Brevard up by one, Austin Nola singled to left and Keys would score from first on a perfectly executed hit and run. Keys just beat out the throw to home from 'Tees right fielder Mitch Haniger to tie the game.

Each of Brevard's first two runs also came on homers with Nick Ramirez hitting a solo blast - his 14th of the season - to even the game at 1-1 in the fourth. Lance Roenicke then gave the Manatees their first lead of the game in the bottom of the eighth as he launched a solo homer into the visiting bullpen.

After allowing one run on four hits in the first, Brevard County starting pitcher Jed Bradley settled in nicely to only allow three more hits and no runs in his next six innings of work. The lefty also struck out four and walked four on the night, but did not factor into the decision.

For Bradley, it was his third consecutive quality start as he has a 1.89 ERA over 19 innings in his last three starts.

Despite blowing his second save of the season in the ninth, Tommy Toledo earned the win. At the plate, both Roenicke and Chadwin Stang went 2-for-3. In his last ten games, Stang is hitting .407 (11-for-27).

Brevard County and Jupiter will take the field again on Tuesday night at 6:35 p.m. for the second game of their four-game set. The Hammerheads will send reigning Marlins' Minor League Pitcher of the Month Justin Nicolino (2-1, 2.42) to the mound to oppose Brevard County southpaw Jacob Barnes (4-1, 3.38).

Brevard County Box Score

BC Hitters

T.J. Mittelstaedt: 1-5, HR, 2 RBI

Nick Ramirez: 1-3, HR, BB, RBI

Lance Roenicke: 2-4, HR, RBI

Chadwin Stang: 2-3, BB

BC Pitchers

Jed Bradley (4-2, 4.26 ERA): 7.0 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 4 SO

Andre Lamontagne: 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 SO

Tommy Toledo (BS, 2)(W, 2-1, 2.57 ERA): 2.0 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 SO

The Manatees hit 3 HR's for the second straight Jed Bradley start. Bradley's career home/road split is staggering. Looking at his career totals when pitching at Space Coast Stadium he has given up just 29 earned runs in 88.0 inning pitched. On the road however, he has given up 64 ER in 76.1 IP.

Brevard County Play-by-Play

Nashville Sounds

Josh Prince (Mike Strasinger / Nashville Sounds)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Omaha catcher Brett Hayes belted a pair of home runs to lead the visiting Storm Chasers to a 10-7 victory over the Nashville Sounds on Monday evening at Greer Stadium in the opener of a four-game series.

Hayes' outburst marked his third two-homer game against the Sounds this season. The backstop has hit all six of his homers versus Nashville, batting .500 (11-for-22) against them on the year.

Nashville (21-41) out-hit Omaha, 11-8, on the night, but Sounds pitchers issued nine walks in the contest.

The Sounds grabbed a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning against rehabbing Omaha starter Danny Duffy, who made his first Triple-A appearance during his return from Tommy John surgery.

Hainley Statia led off with a single and Khris Davis drew a one-out walk before both Statia scored on a Hunter Morris RBI double to right that gave Nashville a 1-0 advantage. Josh Prince followed with a two-run single to center that made it a 3-0 contest.

Omaha cut the lead to 3-2 in the second with a pair of home runs off Sounds starter R.J. Seidel. Anthony Seratelli led off with a towering drive to right that landed on Chestnut Street for his sixth big fly of the year. Later in the frame, Hayes drilled a two-out solo homer to left.

The offenses took over in the third as both teams batted around in the frame to account for 10 runs with neither starting pitcher surviving the inning.

The Storm Chasers jumped in front by an 8-3 margin with a six-spot against Seidel, sending 11 batters to the plate.

Jarrod Dyson (3-for-3) led off with a double to right, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored the tying run on a throwing error by catcher Anderson De La Rosa. Christian Colon and Johnny Giovatella drew back-to-back walks from Seidel then executed a double steal to put a pair of runners into scoring position for Xavier Nady, who delivered a go-ahead RBI single to center. Max Ramirez pushed the visitors' lead to two with a sacrifice fly before Hayes connected for his second homer of the night, a three-run shot to left-center.

Seidel (1-3) was tagged with the loss after surrendering eight runs on six hits over his 2 2/3 innings. He had allowed only 11 total runs in his first six Triple-A outings.

Nashville pulled back within a run at 8-7 with four scores against Duffy in the home half of the third as the offensive show continued. A Prince RBI double, run-scoring singles from Sean Halton and De La Rosa, and an Ozzie Chavez RBI groundout accounted for the runs as the Sounds batted around in the frame.

Omaha extended its lead to 10-7 in the sixth when Nady drew a bases-loaded walk from Dillard and Ramirez lifted his second sac fly of the night later in the frame.

The Sounds had a chance to cut into the lead in the bottom of the frame, loading the bases with one out, but Prince lined into an inning-ending double play.

Donnie Joseph (2-3) picked up the win by hurling 2 2/3 innings of hitless relief for the Storm Chasers.

The teams continue the series with another 7:05 p.m. meeting on Tuesday night. It will be a pair of hard-throwing right-handers matched up on the hill as Johnny Hellweg (5-4, 3.25) will start for the Sounds to oppose Omaha's Yordano Ventura (0-0, 1.80).

Offensive Barrage Sinks Stars

By Alex Cohen / Huntsville Stars

A night after being shutdown by Taylor Jungmann, the Montgomery Biscuits offense scored 12 unanswered runs and broke out for a season-high 19 hits en route to a 13-2 victory against the Huntsville Stars on Monday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

Surprisingly, it was the Huntsville offense who struck first. With two outs in the top of the second inning, Stars outfielder Brock Kjeldgaard launched a fastball by Biscuts starting pitcher Michael Colla well over the center-field wall to give Huntsville a 1-0 lead (audio).

For Kjeldgaard, the blast was his team-leading 11th homer of the season.

Unfortunately for the Stars, the rest of the game belonged to the team residing in the home clubhouse.

After an RBI single from outfielder Kevin Kiermaier tied up the game in the third inning, an RBI single from second baseman Robby Price in the fourth gave the Biscuits the lead for good.

However, the offensive barrage did not begin until the next frame. Over the course of the next two innings, the Biscuts would bat around twice and score a combined 10 runs to put the game out of reach.

In the fifth inning, a two-run homer from Kiermaier and an RBI double by first baseman Cameron Seitzer ended the night of Stars starting pitcher Arcenio Leon (L, 1-5) with nobody out with two runners on. With lefty Brian Garman in the game, an RBI single from designated hitter Kyeong Kong gave the Biscuits a 6-1 lead.

With righty Brooks Hall on the mound for the Stars in the sixth inning, the Biscuits welcomed him into the game pair on solo homers from catcher Mark Thomas and Kang as well as a two-run blast from right fielder Todd Glaesmann. The homers for Kang and Glaesmann were in back-to-back at-bats.

Aside from serving up the longballs, Hall also balked a runner home and gave up an RBI single to Seitzer to give the Biscuits six runs in the inning.

An RBI groundout by third basemen Riccio Torrez gave Montgomery their 13th and final run of the contest in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The Stars tacked on their only other run in the top of eighth on an RBI groundout from outfielder Rene Tosoni.

For the Huntsville pitching staff, the four homers and 19 hits for the Biscuits were the most they have given up in a single game this year.

The loss for the Stars clinches their second consecutive series defeat.

On Tuesday, the Stars will wrap up their five-game series at Riverwalk Stadium against the Montgomery Biscuits. Huntsville will send RHP Andy Moye (3-6, 4.10 ERA) to the bump as Montgomery will counter with LHP Enny Romero (4-2, 3.08 ERA). First pitch is at 7:05 CT.

Rattlers win second straight with 8-2 decision over Clinton

Wagner, Taylor, and Garza lead the way

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers got a strong pitching performance from Tyler Wagner with timely hitting from Tyrone Taylor and Mike Garza to defeat the Clinton LumberKings 8-2 Monday night at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Wagner earned his sixth win of the season while Taylor and Garza both knocked in three runs to lead Wisconsin to its second straight win.

Clinton (30-33) scored in the top of the first inning. Wagner walked the leadoff batter. A ground out moved that runner into scoring position. Guillermo Pimentel followed with an RBI single to put the LumberKings in front. But, they didn't stay in front for long.

Michael Reed singled to start the Wisconsin half of the first. Alfredo Rodriguez moved Reed into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Taylor was at the plate when Reed stole third base and scored on an errant throw. That tied the game 1-1.

The LumberKings went back into the lead in the top of the fourth. Marcus Littlewood doubled with one out to set the stage. Jordy Lara singled to left with two outs and Littlewood scored for a 2-1 lead. But, this Clinton lead didn't last long either.

Taylor, who was hit by a pitch in the first inning, was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the fourth. There was one out when Adam Giacalone lined out to third. Taylor had strayed too far from the bag and there was a chance to double him off to end the inning. But, the throw to first was wild and Taylor took second base. Garza cashed in the opportunity for the Rattlers with an single to left to drive in Taylor with the tying run.

Wisconsin (26-33) took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Chris McFarland drew a walk and Michael Reed singled with one out to put two runners on base. Rodriguez was swinging away this time and singled to drive in McFarland for a 3-2 lead. Taylor, who was named the Midwest League's Player of the Week earlier in the day, was next and he singled to drive in Reed and the Rattlers led 4-2.

Wagner struck out six and scattered six hits over six innings to put himself in line for his sixth win of the season.

The Timber Rattlers offense secured that win for Wagner with four runs in the bottom of the seventh. McFarland singled, Reed walked, and Rodriguez singled to load the bases. That brought Taylor to the plate with the infield drawn in to cut down the runner at the plate. Taylor lined a single through the infield to drive in two runs for a 6-2 lead. Later in the inning, Garza smacked a two-out, two-run single for the 8-2 score.

Martin Viramontes pitched two scoreless innings and Jono Armold worked a 1-2-3 ninth out of the Wisconsin bullpen to finish off the LumberKings.

Wisconsin begins a road trip on Tuesday with a game in Beloit, Wisconsin against the Snappers. Damien Magnifico (5-1, 3.67) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Beloit has Raul Alcantara (7-1, 2.65) as their scheduled starter. Game time at Pohlman Field is 7:00pm. Tune in for the broadcast on AM1280 or timberrattlers.com starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:40pm.

WP: Tyler Wagner (6-4)

LP: Anthony Vasquez (0-1)

TIME: 2:44

Wisconsin Boxscore

This was a fun game to watch. Have I mentioned Tyrone Taylor at all in the last week? Chris covered him in detail above and I'm sure he'll cover Tyrone in the blog as well but I have something I want to add (again). Tyrone doesn't flinch when getting hit by a pitch, in fact he turns into it, drops his bat, and takes his base, HE'S A FREAKING MAN!

The good Martin Viramontes showed up tonight, he's been erratic, check out his stat line in the link.

Chris McFarland hasn't been playing much for whatever reason, but he's been hitting better when he does, unfortunately he committed his 9th error of the season tonight.

Kind of flying under the radar but Caleb Gindl has really turned things around this year. He started out real slow but had a nice May and for the month of June is hitting nearly 400 with an OPS over 1. Still at only 24 I think he could help the Brewers in the future and if Braun goes on the DL I wouldn't mind seeing him called up over Prince for sure and probably even Davis since he can play all three positions.
