Are the Brewers showing any interest at all?

You'd think the area scout would have made at least 1 game when none of the high school teams were playing, what else was there to do in the north east besides hit up the college games for the first 6-7 weeks of the season? All of the big name D1 pitchers are usually Friday/Saturday starters so it would seem like the rest of the week is a good time to scout position players and pitchers from other programs.

I would have thought they'd have been there at least to do due diligence even if they don't think he has the goods... which I find hard to believe given some of the soft tossing guys with no future who have come through WI.

If they scouted him but didn't talk to him that doesn't make much sense either, why wouldn't you at least show interest in a home state kid if for no other reason than to provide a bit of recognition for the young man? Speaking from personal experience kids are thrilled when they know that anyone from the next level is at their game and watching.

The Brewers do have a lengthy history of drafting players they had no contact with, which suggests that they are playing a game not trying to tip their hand with their sleeper picks. However the flip side is that if you don't talk to anyone about the young man, how well do you really know his situation? I realize that parents, coaches, and the kid aren't going to say much of value, it's going to mostly be fluff, but shouldn't you at least have an idea of what's happening in a young man's personal life before you draft him?

A lot of scouts have watched Tyler this season, and not all of them have come over to talk with him. It's possible Milwaukee has been there, but if they have, he doesn't know it.

I know the Angels are taking another look, they watched him a ton last year, and there are at least six teams who aren't hiding their interest at this point. I don't know how this stuff works, I've never been close to a kid with this talent before, so I don't really know what to expect. Honestly, there is NO WAY this young man should not be drafted this year...forget that, but I have no idea where teams think he projects.

CBSsports came through with some love for Tyler today. Not as much as Brewerfan but pretty cool nonetheless.

Dowling College's Tyler Badamo: zero earned runs in last 60 innings

Dowling College's Tyler Badamo is on a roll this season. (Dowling Coll.)

Right-hander Tyler Badamo of Division-II Dowling College is having quite the senior season. In 75 innings, Badamo has pitched to a 0.46 ERA and logged 96 strikeouts against 16 walks. As well, he's given up just three extra-base hits on the year, none of them homers. Most impressive, though, is that Badamo hasn't given up an earned run since March 1 -- a span of 60 innings.

Coming out of high school in Mount Sinai, NY, Badamo was rated by Perfect Game USA as a "strong follow" -- meaning he has definite pro potential. Suffice it to say, he's reinforced that notion this season.

Still, no matter what's ahead for Badamo, he's not going to forget his senior year of college, when he reeled off 60 innings (and counting) without surrendering an earned run.

That's so awesome! I hadn't seen that, but I sent the story to Dayn Perry today.

Aha ... now the last byline or whatever you'd call it makes sense. I didn't include it initially.

I'll edit the post now...

I've read that in at least a few cases in recent years, the Brewers have drafted someone without the individual having any knowledge of the Brewers' interest. It's slipping my mind at the moment who those guys were, but I know I've read it multiple times. So who knows - maybe the Brewers do end up with him.

I promised I wouldn't name the teams, but one MLB team invited Tyler to their predraft workout today, and a second contacted him to say they will be inviting him to theirs as well.

The team that invited him today holds their predraft in a minor league stadium, the second team hold theirs in their MLB stadium, so you can imagine, Tyler is over the moon right now.

A third team, hey let's go with the ever popular, "mystery team" sent him their questionnaire today, basically a psychological profile. This one was an AL team that Tyler had never heard from before. They'd been to see him more than once, and he didn't even know it, because they'd never spoken to him.

Me: "Tyler how are you feeling, the arm, emotions, all of it?"

Tyler: "Arm's great, emotions are in check, I have a season to finish. Goal at the beginning of the season was to be an All-American, didn't matter which team. Now, I want everything possible, and first team All-American. I'll worry about the draft when I'm done."

That was a timely question and excellent response on his part given this article from BA yesterday about players struggling with draftitis. It's a subscriber piece.

Well for our sake I hope your work at least made the Brewers take a look if they hadn't already.

Good read, & we get a definitive answer on his scoreless IP streak

Tyler Badamo was asked last week how he dealt with the pressure that accompanied his streak of 72 2/3 straight innings without allowing an earned run, which ended in his final regular-season start last Friday.
