Link Report for Sun. 6/9

[Rogers would have broken out of it in the 5th with a home run if not for a spectacular catch by Biscuits right fielder Mikie Mahtook. It was described by Alex Cohen as Mahtook going up and over the wall to take a homer away from Rogers. The wall in question is 10 feet high and Mahtook was a couple feet above that. Alex said it should be a "Web Gem".

Well, here's that catch and an additional link discussing it.

Jungmann Dominates Again in Stars Victory

By Alex Cohen / Huntsville Stars

After being shutout on Saturday night, the Huntsville Stars rode the confidence of a six-run fourth inning and another tremendous start from starting pitcher Taylor Jungmann to roll to a 7-1 victory against the Montgomery Biscuits on Sunday night.

For Jungmann, the night surprisingly did not get off to a promising start. Following a leadoff walk issued to outfielder Kevin Kiermaier, a one-out single from outfielder Mikie Mahtook put runners at the corners. During the next at-bat, an errant throw by Stars catcher Adam Weisenburger while trying to catch Mahtook stealing second allowed Kiermaier to score the first run of the game.

Fortunately, that was the only blemish on the night for Jungmann. For the second straight start, the 23-year-old righty gave up one unearned run in seven innings to improve to 7-5 on the season. The Brewers 2nd ranked prospect (per MLB.com) has now won his last four starts and has seven straight quality starts since being activated from the disabled list in early May.

Aside from Jungmann, the Stars got an inning of scoreless relief from both Santo Manzanillo and Eric Marzec to close out the game.

On offense, the Stars got all the run-support they needed in the fourth inning, where they batted around and scored a season-high six runs off of Biscuits starting pitcher Merrill Kelly (L, 5-6).

To begin the inning, an RBI single by outfielder Rene Tosoni allowed outfielder Kentrail Davis to score from second and put first baseman Jason Rogers on third with one out. One batter later, a sacrifice fly from outfielder Brock Kjeldgaard scored Rogers to put the Stars up for one.

Then, with two outs, the Stars offense would go on to score four more runs. After a single by third baseman Mike Walker put runners at the corners, a wild pitch from Kelly scored Tosoni from third to make the score 3-1. Later in the inning, a two-run double from designated hitter Shawn Zarraga and an RBI single by shortstop Nick Shaw finished up the offense explosion for Huntsville.

The six runs is the most the Stars offense has scored in a single inning this season.

Huntsville scored their only other run in the seventh inning on an RBI double from Rogers, snapping an 0-for-15 skid at the plate for the power-hitting first baseman. Rogers leads the Southern League with 46 runs batted in this season.

On Monday, the Stars will play game four of a five-game series at Riverwalk Stadium against Montgomery. Huntsville will send RHP Arcenio Leon (1-4, 6.55 ERA) to the bump as Montgomery will counter with RHP Michael Colla (N/A). First pitch is at 7:05 CT.

It looks like Albert Almora is a keeper, my goodness he's hit well since recovering from the broken hamate bone. I wish the Cubs weren't drafting so well, and yes I understand they've been picking high in the 1st round.

Almora hits first Midwest League homer
