Tyrone Taylor staying red hot (2-3 with a HR and 2BB), since the multi-hit game break through they've been coming almost everyday and the walks are starting to pour in pretty frequently as well. Looks like the guy who turned heads in Helena last year for sure. Definitely helping to keep the link report exciting.

Rattlers rally to snap streak

Wisconsin scores six runs in the 8th to beat Clinton 11-9

Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers erased an 8-5 deficit with six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and held on for an 11-9 victory over the Clinton LumberKings on Sunday afternoon at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Adam Giacalone had a pair of hits and three RBI in the game to help Wisconsin snap a five-game losing streak.

The Timber Rattlers (25-33) broke out on top in the bottom of the first inning. Tyrone Taylor hit a solo home run with two outs for a 1-0 lead. Taylor moved his hitting streak to eight games with his fourth home run of the season.

Clinton (30-32) tied the game in the top of the second inning on an RBI double by Gaby Guerrero. The LumberKings went in front in the top of the fourth inning. Brock Hebert made it 2-1 with a sacrifice fly.

The Rattlers staged their first big inning of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. The frame started with Orlando Arcia being hit by a pitch and Taylor drawing a walk. Max Walla's single to right drove in Arcia and a poor throw to the plate let Taylor scoot home with the run that made it 3-2. Giacalone doubled with two outs to drive in Walla and Parker Berberet singled to knock in Giacalone for a 5-2 lead.

Rattlers starting pitcher Eric Semmelhack retired the first two batters in the top of the fifth inning. But he could not get the third out. Taylor Ard hit a home run to start Clinton's rally. Patrick Kivlehan was next and he singled and stole second. Marcus Littlewood followed with an RBI single and took second on the throw to the plate. Guerrero was next and he singled to knock in Littlewood to tie the game 5-5. Semmelhack walked Jordy Lara and was pulled from the game.

Taylor Wall took over on the mound and gave up a single to Hebert to load the bases. Then, Jabari Henry drew a walk on a 3-2 pitch to force in the run that put Clinton up 6-5.

Preston Gainey came on in the top of the seventh inning and gave up a home run to Littlewood. The LumberKings padded their lead with another run in the top of the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Kivlehan. That put them up 8-5.

Jochi Ogando, the third Clinton pitcher of the game, entered in the bottom of the eighth. He walked Arcia, gave up a single to Taylor, and walked Victor Roache to load the bases. Walla drove in Arcia with a high chopper to first base that turned into an out at first and cut Clinton's lead to two runs. Ogando walked Mike Garza to reload the bases.

Oliver Garcia came out of the Clinton bullpen to face Giacalone. The left-handed hitter lined a single through the left side of the infield to drive in Taylor and Roache with the tying runs. But, the Rattlers weren't done.

Perez walked Berberet to reload the bases, but got the second out of the inning. Then, Mike Reed drew a four pitch walk to force in Garza to put the Rattlers in front 9-8. Arcia capped the inning with a two-run single to send Giacalone and Berberet home with two insurance runs for an 11-8 lead.

In the top of the ninth, Lara homered off Gainey to make it 11-9. Henry singled with one out to bring the tying run to the plate, but Gainey got the final two batters to close out Clinton.

Giacalone extended his current hitting streak to ten games with his performance on Sunday. It is the longest hitting streak by a Timber Rattlers player this season.

The final game of Wisconsin's homestand is Monday night. Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Hiram Burgos will not make the start for the Timber Rattlers on a rehabilitation assignment. Burgos felt discomfort in his shoulder while playing catch today and was scratched from Monday's game at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium.

Tyler Wagner (5-4, 3.00) was scheduled to make the start for the Timber Rattlers on Monday before Burgos was announced as a rehab assignment. The LumberKings have not named a starter for Monday night. Game time is 7:05pm.

Monday is a bonus Bang for Your Buck Night with soda, beer, and hotdogs available for $1.

The first 1,000 fans to attend the game on Monday will receive a poster of Wisconsin outfielder Tyrone Taylor courtesy of Dunkin Donuts.

It's also a Qdoba Q*Monday with 106.7, The KRUZ. Purchase a lunch entrée from either Qdoba location in Appleton and receive a free ticket to any Timber Rattlers regular season Monday home game through the end of the 2013 season.

If you can't make it to the ballpark, there are several ways to catch the action. Time Warner Cable SportsChannel will telecast the game. The radio broadcast is available on AM1280, WNAM or timberrattlers.com starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:45pm. Monday's game is also available to subscribers of MiLB.TV.

Orlando Arcia now has a BB/K of 1.00 as an 18 year old in A ball. I know we haven't said this in a while, but dear flippin' jimminy cricket 'let the trumpets blare'. This guy is going to be a superstar.

Between him and Tyrone Taylor, Victor Roache, and Clint Coulter, this lineup has high ceiling bats who are getting their bearings.

It's going to be scary fun to follow once the feet are wet. I'm giddy about it.

Final: Huntsville 7 Montgomery 1

One night after being shutout, Huntsville put up a 7 spot to defeat the Montgomery Biscuits 7-1 Sunday evening. Righty Taylor Jungmann continued his streak of quality starts, running it to 7. Jungmann worked 7 innings allowing 1 unearned run on 4 hits and 3 walks while striking out 2. Jungmann threw 94 pitches, 56 for strikes. Taylor posted a phenomenal 16-2 ground out to fly out ratio. Just shows how much he was in command tonight. When Taylor went on the disabled list after his start on 4/27, he was 1-4 with a 7.89 ERA. Jungmann's record now sits at 7-5 and his ERA is now 3.78.

The Stars got 2 innings of scoreless relief from their bullpen tonight. Santo Manzanillo pitched a scoreless 8th, allowing a hit. There was no radar gun in the stadium, but Alex Cohen mentioned on the broadcast that from the pop of the catcher's mitt, Santo was "bringing the heat". Canton, Ohio's Eric Marzec pitched a clean 9th.

Stars pitching coach Chris Hook earned the Stars staff's first ejection of the season when he "got his money's worth" in an argument with the home plate umpire.

Huntsville Box Score

The Huntsville offense came to life tonight, scoring 7 runs, 6 in one inning, on 8 hits. They were led by Mike Walker's 3 hit night. Walker went 3-4 with a double and a run scored. The Stars also got a 2 run double from catcher Shawn Zarraga and an RBI double from Jason Rogers. Rogers double snapped an 0-20 streak he'd been on. He would have broken out of it in the 5th with a home run if not for a spectacular catch by Biscuits right fielder Mikie Mahtook. It was described by Alex Cohen as Mahtook going up and over the wall to take a homer away from Rogers. The wall in question is 10 feet high and Mahtook was a couple feet above that. Alex said it should be a "Web Gem". The Stars got singles from Adam Weisenburger, Nick Shaw, and Rene Tosoni. Shea Vucinich reached base twice via walks. Weisenburger, Rogers, and Kentrail Davis also drew walks.

Huntsville Play By Play

The Stars batted around and scored 6 in the fourth.

Rene Tosoni singles on a line drive to right fielder Mikie Mahtook. Kentrail Davis scores. Jason Rogers to 3rd.

Brock Kjeldgaard out on a sacrifice fly to center fielder Kevin Kiermaier. Jason Rogers scores.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Hunter Morris and Caleb Gindl each homered to power the Nashville Sounds to a 5-3 victory over the cross-state rival Memphis Redbirds on Sunday afternoon at AutoZone Park.

The win gave the Sounds their first winning road series of the season as they took three of four from Memphis. Nashville (21-40) wrapped up its road trip with a 4-4 mark.

Left-hander Chris Narveson made his third rehab start for Nashville and took a no-decision after allowing three runs on five hits over 4 1/3 innings. He struck out four and did not walk a batter during his 63-pitch effort.

Memphis took a 2-0 lead in the second when Jermaine Curtis connected for a two-run homer to left off Narveson, the infielder's third roundtripper of the year. Jamie Romak also scored on the blast after opening the inning with a single.

Morris continued his recent power surge for the Sounds in the third when he swatted a game-tying two-run homer to dead center off Memphis starter Scott McGregor. It was the first baseman's third big fly in his last three at-bats, dating back to last night's victory. Caleb Gindl, who doubled earlier in the frame, also scored on Morris' 13th longball of the season.

The Redbirds reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the third when Ryan Jackson and Justin Christian connected for back-to-back one-out doubles off the rehabbing Sounds hurler.

Gindl (2-for-5) continued his red-hot road trip in the fifth when he connected for a three-run homer to right off McGregor (1-3), who took the loss, to power the Sounds to a 5-3 lead. The outfielder finished the eight-game swing with a .389 average (14-for-36). Narveson (error) and Hainley Statia (walk) also scored on the bomb.

Memphis got the potential tying runs into scoring position against Zach Kroenke in the seventh following a two-out walk followed by a bloop double, but the Nashville left-hander popped up Brock Peterson to escape the jam with the two-run lead intact.

Kroenke (3-8) worked three scoreless innings of relief behind the rehabbing Narveson to earn his third victory in his last five outings after beginning the season with six straight losing decisions.

Rob Wooten took over on the Nashville hill for the ninth and worked around baserunners on second and third before fanning Peterson looking to close out the victory with a scoreless frame, earning his tenth save of the year.

The Sounds begin an eight-game homestand tomorrow evening at Greer Stadium by hosting the division-rival Omaha Storm Chasers (AAA-Royals) in the 7:05 p.m. opener of a four-game series. Right-hander R.J. Seidel (1-2, 2.93) will man the bump for Nashville and face rehabbing Omaha left-hander Danny Duffy (NR).

Final: Brevard County 2, Daytona (Cubs) 8 (Game One)

Brevard bounced 8-2 by Cubs in game one

By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees allowed four runs to the Daytona Cubs in the first three innings and could not bounce back as they dropped the first game of Sunday's doubleheader at Jackie Robinson Ballpark, 8-2.

Daytona's John Andreoli and Tim Saunders both reached to start the first and third innings, each stole a base and would come around to score to give Daytona a 4-0 lead.

Brevard County (31-28) was able to get leadoff men on base in the second, third and fourth, with Lance Roenicke's third-inning double setting himself up to score on a Greg Hopkins single.

Cameron Garfield got on to start the fourth as well and then moved to third on a defensive error that was caused by Garfield attempting to advance on a ball in the dirt and getting caught up in a rundown. Nick Ramirez would then drive Garfield in to cut Daytona's lead in half at 4-2. Garfield was 2-for-3 in the first game of the doubleheader.

That would be all that the Manatees would be able to push across though as the Cubs (30-28) would put the game out of reach with a three-run sixth that was highlighted by Dustin Geiger's two-run home run.

Manatees' starting pitcher Cody Scarpetta (0-2, 9.00) was charged with the loss as three of the four runs he allowed were earned. He surrendered just two hits with four strikeouts, but three of the five men he walked were able to score in his 2.2 innings of work.

Brevard County's bullpen did not fare much better as the duo of Chad Pierce and Matt Miller combine to allow four runs on six hits after Scarpetta exited the game.

Brevard County Box Score

The Manatees playoff hopes took a hit as they dropped both ends of today's doubleheader. In game one, Cameron Garfield went 2 for 3 at the plate. He scored a run but also allowed six stolen bases and committed his seventh error of the season. Yadiel Rivera, Ben McMahan and Greg Hopkins each singled for Brevard and Lance Roenicke was 1 for 3 with a run scored. Cody Scarpetta gave up four runs, three earned in 2.2 innings. He allowed just two hits, but walked five batters. Chad Pierce allowed three more runs in his 2.1 innings of work, and Matt Miller gave up a run in his one inning. On the other side of things, Javier Baez of the Cubs committed his 25th error of the season already. Wow.

Brevard County Play-By-Play

Brevard County Top of the 3rd

Lance Roenicke doubles (9) on a line drive to left fielder Taiwan Easterling.

Chadwin Stang flies out to left fielder Taiwan Easterling.

Brandon Macias pops out to third baseman Ben Carhart.

Gregory Hopkins singles on a ground ball to left fielder Taiwan Easterling. Lance Roenicke scores. Gregory Hopkins to 2nd on the throw.

Mitch Haniger called out on strikes.

Brevard County Top of the 4th

Final: Brevard County 2, Daytona (Cubs) 3 (Game Two)

'Tees can't avoid twinbill sweep

Brevard jumps ahead early, but falls 3-2 to Daytona

By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - In the second game of Sunday night's twinbill, the Brevard County Manatees jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but could not hold on as they were edged by the Daytona Cubs, 3-2 at Jackie Robinson Ballpark and swept in the doubleheader.

The Manatees' (31-29) bats came out firing with two runs on four hits in the first inning. Greg Hopkins scored on a Nick Ramirez double, after reaching on a one-out single.

After Mitch Haniger reached on an infield single to move Ramirez to third, Cody Hawn drove in Ramirez with a single of his own.

Daytona (31-28) answered back with a run in the bottom of the first and the score remained 2-1 until the bottom of the sixth.

Then in the sixth, Daytona's John Andreoli led off the inning with a single and then came home to tie the game on a Zeke DeVoss double. DeVoss would score three batters later on a Dustin Geiger single to center.

In the top of the seventh, the 'Tees saw Rafael Neda lead off with a single. Chadwin Stang came on to run for Neda and would advance to second on a sacrifice bunt and then to third on a throwing error by Cubs' catcher Taylor Davis as he tried to catch Stang off the bag following a pitch with two outs.

Greg Hopkins drew a walk to put the go-ahead run on first, but the runners would be left on the corners as Nick Ramirez struck out looking to end the game.

Brent Suter (4-4, 3.67) took the loss as he allowed three runs on five hits, while walking three and striking out two in 5.1 innings of work. Kevin Shackelford relieved Suter in the sixth and prevented further damage by stranding the inherited runners at first and third.

The Manatees did not lose any ground in the standings thanks to the earlier doubleheader sweep by Clearwater over Dunedin, but both the Threshers and Cubs passed the Manatees in the Florida State League North Division standings. With seven games remaining in the first half, Brevard County sits in fourth place, but only two and a half games away from the first.

A four-game series against the Jupiter Hammerheads (32-29) begins on Monday night at 6:35 p.m. and will send the Manatees into the All Star Break. Southpaw Jed Bradley (4-2, 4.68) will represent the 'Tees on the hill and he opposed by right-hander Jose Urena (6-2, 4.37) for the Hammerheads.

Brevard County Box Score

Rafael Neda led the BC offense in this one, going 2 for 3 with a double. Nick Ramirez also doubled and drew a walk. Greg Hopkins, Mitch Haniger and Cody Hawn each singled. Brent Suter pitched decent, allowing just three runs on five hits over 5.1 innings, but came out on the losing end. Kevin Shackelford pitched two thirds of an inning of scoreless relief.

Brevard County Play-By-Play

Brevard County Top of the 1st

T. J. Mittelstaedt strikes out swinging.

Gregory Hopkins singles on a line drive to center fielder Zeke DeVoss.

Nick Ramirez doubles (12) on a fly ball to left fielder John Andreoli. Gregory Hopkins scores.

Cody Hawn singles on a ground ball to right fielder Jorge Soler. Nick Ramirez scores. Mitch Haniger to 2nd.

Doubleheader story from the Daytona News-Journal includes this:

In the first game of the doubleheader, the Cubs generated offense despite a lack of early hits, taking advantage of five walks from Brevard County starter Cody Scarpetta (0-2).

“We knew, coming in, (Scarpetta) would give us some opportunities to steal some bases,” outfielder John Andreoli said. “We took advantage early and kept the momentum riding throughout that game.”
