Via Jeff Hem on Twitter:

Michael Olmsted transferred to Double-A. Makes room for Alfredo Figaro, who is sched. to start Sunday.

Now it's the Stars who will need to make a corresponding move on Saturday.

Via Alex and the Stars --

On Saturday, Stars RHP Mark Williams was placed on the disabled list (retroactive to 8/14). In 15 appearances with the Stars this season, Williams has a 0-0 record with a 5.40 ERA in 30 innings.

You'll see via the link that Williams has had more success while with Brevard this season.

The Brewers option Donovan Hand to Nashville as Yovani Gallardo comes off the DL.

When Hand formally reports, the Sounds will need to make a roster move.

The roster move on Sunday was to place RHP R.J. Seidel on the DL. It's believed the Brewers were limiting Seidel's innings as of late anyway.

At Brevard, RHP Cody Scarpetta comes off the DL and will start the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader.

This places the Manatee roster at the 25-man limit.

Please note that OF Lance Roenicke is actually on the reserve list at Brevard at this time, after his recent return from Wisconsin. So at this moment, Roenicke is not active and does not count against the 25-man cap.

Via the Brewers Player Development Twitter Feed --

Roster moves - N. Delmonico to the DL, L. Roenicke to Brevard. E. Semmelhack to the DL, Alan Williams to WIS. C. Coulter to Helena

Nicky Delmonico has had his share of DL instances with the Orioles, hopefully this in no way is related to earlier concussion issues (we don't know, that's not even subjecture, just typing out loud).

Doesn't look like it, this was the sequence Saturday night --

Brevard County Bottom of the 7th

Nick Ramirez pops out to shortstop Wes Darvill.

Mitch Haniger grounds out, shortstop Wes Darvill to first baseman Dustin Geiger.

Nick Delmonico reaches on a fielding error by first baseman Dustin Geiger. Nick Delmonico to 2nd.

Gregory Hopkins grounds out, shortstop Wes Darvill to first baseman Dustin Geiger.

Daytona Top of the 8th

Defensive Substitution: Brandon Macias replaces third baseman Nick Delmonico, batting 5th, playing third base.

Helena does not need to make a roster move in order to add Clint Coulter.

Because Donovan Hand didn't spend ten days in minors after his option (he's back up for Rob Wooten's paternity leave), Hand will still have all three option years remaining to open 2014.

With Hand going back down on Friday, does that mean he still doesn't use an option because it will be less than 10 days until Sept 1st?

Also Halton and Gindl are swapping places Friday because it's been 10 days for Gindl.

Left-handed pitcher Chris Narveson has been placed on the D.L. with a nerve issue near his throwing shoulder. Infielder Ozzie Chavez has also been placed on the D.L.

As per Chris Mehring via the Wisconsin media notes, 19-year-old catcher Dustin Houle (pronounced "hool", by the way) has been promoted from Helena to Wisconsin to replace catcher Tyler Roberts (7-day disabled list, undisclosed injury).

Houle will share duties with Parker Berberet, while Clint Coulter and Mike Turay handle Helena's staff. It wouldn't surprise to see a 3rd catcher up from Maryvale for the H-Crew in time for the playoffs.

As per Matt Eddy of Baseball America, the Brewers have signed 28-year-old RHP Dustin Molleken, who has Canadian National Team experience with several currently in the Brewers organization. Molleken was released by the Nippon Ham Fighters in Japan on July 9th after spending much of 2012 and all of 2013 thus far with them. The Saskatchewan product has yet to reach the big leagues, maxing out at AAA in the Colorado system in 2011-12, after reaching AA previously in the Pirates system (Pittsburgh drafted him out of high school in the 15th round in 2003). Molleken missed all of 2004 with Tommy John surgery, pitching in only 12 games over his first three pro seasons.

Career numbers via Baseball Reference

As we've noted elsewhere on the forum, we've learned that Molleken signed a minor league deal that included the 2014 season.

From the Manatees --

RHP Tyler Cravy has been transferred from Brevard County to Arizona.

RHP Cody Scarpetta has been activated from the disabled list. He will be active for tonight's game against Daytona.

Brevard County's roster is at 25 active players.

The Manatees season ends Sunday. Cravy, who last started on Tuesday, has had a fantastic season, enough so to be on the very fringe of 40-man roster consideration. This is in effect a paper move with the Maryvale season complete.

Via Ramblin' Al:

If a player is in the minors for more than 20 total days in a single year, it counts as an option. Anything less and it does not.

Figaro was sent down on August 16th, so he did not use his final option. With a guy on the brink of the 25 man roster, like Alfredo likely will be next March, that option may keep him in the system for needed depth.

Good point.

  • 2 weeks later...

Sure enough, we had a Brewerfan Player Index Page built back in 2004 for De La Torre, who was originally signed by the Brewers but never suited up for any of their affiliates.

Back then, we had him at 5'11", 165. He's now listed at 5'10", 185, which is now reflected on the linked page.

He must have been "heightening" back then.
