Minor League Transaction Thread -- From 2013 All-Star Break to 2014 Opening Week

Looks like when we next see catcher Clint Coulter (knee), it will be in Maryvale, as he has been transferred to that roster from Helena.

Also, it's not good news for 2011 27th round RHP Chad Thompson, yet to make an appearnce this year. He was formally placed on the Maryvale 60-day DL on Friday. We're not aware of the specifics, but that's certainly not promising.

What is going on with Coulter specifically? Demoted yet again? Is he just struggling that badly trying to return from his injury?

Well, he hasn't played since hurting himself, so he isn't struggling offensively in terms of the "demotion", this is likely more about the training/rehab facilities available in Maryvale.

Via Wisconsin Media Notes:

RHP Johnny Hellweg transferred from Wisconsin to Nashville

RHP Austin Ross activated from the Brevard County DL and transferred to Wisconsin

***

4th year pro RHP Joel Dicent's bounce between Maryvale and the Dominican continues, this time back to the D.R. for the soon-to-be 22-year-old.

***

LHP Will West (21 next week) was formally activated from the Maryvale DL. He remains on that roster for now.

Khris Davis to Milwaukee post-Braun.

Davis comes in this time red-hot.

Excellent. I was just reading last nights Link Report and thinking of this. I hope he gets some extended time to see what we really have.

Probably won't matter, as he will more than likely just rot on the bench. Prove me wrong RRR, please?

Halton down, Wooten up

Congratulations, Rob.

Wooten is the 6th player from his draft round (13th, 2008) to make the big leagues.

Halton was the 3rd player to reach the majors from his draft round (13th, 2009). Unfortunately, the player taken eight picks before Halton plays for a fierce Brewers rival and will garner some MVP consideration this year.

Via the Brewers' Player Development Twitter account:

The Brewers announce these roster moves- (Nashville) OF Cole Garner has been released, LHP Brent Leach moved to Nashville. RHP Mark Williams to Huntsville

***

That would free up a roster spot at High-A Brevard for Nicky Delmonico once formally added.

Via the Brewers PD Twitter account:

The Brewers have signed IF Eugenio Velez & assigned him to Nashville. IF Ozzie Chavez has been placed on the DL.

***

The Blue Jays released Velez earlier this week.

Velez hit .270/.372/.437 with seven homers and 21 steals in 69 games at Triple-A (2013 numbers). He last appeared in the Majors with the Dodgers in 2011 and went hitless in 37 at-bats.

Career major league numbers for the 31-year-old switch-hitter

Career minor league numbers Brewers are calling Velez an infielder, but scroll to the bottom of that link and you'll see that Velez has extensive time all over the diamond.

***

All that being said, this isn't much more than a fill-out-the-AAA roster-for-five-weeks type of move. Velez will be a minor league free agent in October.

This is Ozzie Chavez' 2nd recent DL stint for undisclosed injury reasons. (He's a 30-year-old switch-hitting utility infielder.)

Via the Manatees:

INF Nick Delmonico traded from Baltimore to Milwaukee and assigned to Brevard County. Delmonico will be wearing #23 with the Manatees and will be active for tonight's game against Bradenton.

RHP Damien Magnifico activated from the disabled list. He will be the starting pitcher tonight for the Manatees against Bradenton.

LHP Jed Bradley placed on the disabled list.

Brevard County's roster is now at the Florida State League limit of 25 active players.

As per Matt Eddy of Baseball America, the Brewers have signed 28-year-old RHP Dustin Molleken, who has Canadian National Team experience with several currently in the Brewers organization. Molleken was released by the Nippon Ham Fighters in Japan on July 9th after spending much of 2012 and all of 2013 thus far with them. The Saskatchewan product has yet to reach the big leagues, maxing out at AAA in the Colorado system in 2011-12, after reaching AA previously in the Pirates system (Pittsburgh drafted him out of high school in the 15th round in 2003). Molleken missed all of 2004 with Tommy John surgery, pitching in only 12 games over his first three pro seasons.

No specific word on when he'll be activated and whether he'll report to Nashville or Huntsville, although his Wikipedia page has him going to Nashville (who updated that?).

Saskatchewan Twitter had this five days ago (Tweet) :)
