TWEET: From Maryvale to Brevard for 28th round RHP Alex Moore --

Got called up. Heading to @BCManatees in the morning for A+ ball. Hopefully I play well and get to stay! Gotta thank the good lord for this!

No word yet on a corresponding move, sometimes you'll see promotions like this if the Brewers feel it'll be short-term, rather than move up one of the Timber Rattler arms. We'll see...good for 22-year-old Moore.

RHP Andre Lamontagne placed on the disabled list, retroactive to July 4th.

Unless we hear otherwise, we assume it's part of the rest each arm for a week program.

Jim Callis of Baseball America:

Brewers, 12th rounder Trevor Seidenberger agree on $125,000. Texas Christian LHP can show three average pitches as SP, might play up as RP.

Can't wait to be eating a burger while watching Seidenberger throw to Adam Weisenburger in Miller Park someday...

Highest unsigned pick is now Pepperdine RHP Corey Miller (16th round).

Via Alex and the Stars:

On Wednesday, Stars OF Kentrail Davis was promoted to Triple-A Nashville.

As one of five 2013 Mid-Season Southern League All-Star for the Stars, Davis was hitting .266 with five homers and 33 runs batted in at the time of his promotion. The former supplemental first round draft pick of the Brewers in 2009 was leading the Stars in the majority of their team categories.

Those categories include games played (89), hits (81), runs scored (51), stolen bases (18), on-base percentage (.372) and triples (4). Davis also departs the Southern League currently in the top-five in walks (45, 5th) and doubles (19, T-4th).

In 2012, Davis played the full season with the Stars, hitting .274 with seven homers and 44 runs batted in over 122 games.

Davis is now the sixth Stars player from their 2013 opening day roster to reach a higher level of baseball. He will join INF Ozzie Chavez, C Robinzon Diaz, RHP Jimmy Nelson and RHP R.J Seidel in Nashville. RHP Greg Holle pitched in two games with the Sounds in June, but is currently on the Stars roster.

There has been no corresponding move on this time. The Stars active roster sits at 24 players, one under the Southern League maximum.

Congratulations, Kentrail!

Brewers have signed 28-year-old LHP Aaron Laffey (153 big league games) to a minor league contract. Formal placement is pending, but likely AAA Nashville in lieu of an also-pending formal DL placement of Hiram Burgos.

We'll post this info on the Major League forum as well for any potential discussion there.

So it didn't take long for the veteran to find AA...

Via the York Revolution of the Independent Atlantic League:

The York Revolution has announced that the Atlantic League contract of infielder/outfielder Eric Patterson has been purchased by the Milwaukee Brewers. The transaction comes after Patterson excelled at various positions in the field and in the batting order in 62 games with York.

Patterson batted .275 with the Revolution, with 13 home runs and 38 RBI. The RBI total is even more impressive considering Patterson had settled into the leadoff role the last several weeks he was with the club. The nine-year professional played second, short and corner outfield during his time with York.

He was named Atlantic League Player of The Week for the period of June 3-9, and homered in four consecutive games during that time (including a grand slam), joining York Revolution all-time home run leader Chris Nowak (another former Brewer farmhand - MH) as the only players to accomplish such a feat. Patterson's 13 home runs in the first half of the season are also a Revolution franchise record, and his six triples led the team as well. His three home runs to lead off a game equaled the work of former Revs leadoff man Scott Grimes during the 2010 championship season.

For his efforts, Patterson was selected to the 2013 Atlantic League All-Star Game at Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf, MD, home of the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. He started at shortstop for the Freedom Division.

The Brewers indicated the 30-year-old Patterson (career major league stats) would be assigned to AA Huntsville (career minor league stats).

I think folks have been waiting for this one since the Kieschnick days...via the BrewersPD twitter account:

The #Brewers have signed RHP/OF Micah Owings to a minor league contract. He will report to our complex in Maryvale

Owings turns 31 in September.

July 1st - D.J. Short, Hardball Talk:

Mark Zuckerman of CSNWashington.com reports that the Nationals have granted Micah Owings his release after he opted out of his minor league contract with the club.

After posting a 4.86 ERA over six seasons between the Diamondbacks, Reds, and Padres, Owings made the switch from pitcher to full-time position player this season. The 30-year-old was batting .265/.305/.480 with eight home runs, 31 RBI and a 71/10 K/BB ratio over 213 plate appearances with the Nationals’ Triple-A affiliate. He made 30 starts in left field, two in right field and 21 out of the designated hitter spot.

Owings was already considered a good hitting pitcher and the pop he has displayed in the minors is certainly nothing to sneeze at, but that plate discipline isn’t pretty. While it sounds like he could have a lead on a promising situation elsewhere, one wonders if he would be more interesting to a major league club if he still pitched a little.

Looks like Garrett Cooper got a bump up to Wisconsin.

Via Wisconsin's Media Notes:

TRANSACTIONS: The Milwaukee Brewers have announced that first baseman Garrett Cooper, their 6th round pick of the 2013 draft out of Auburn, has been transferred from Helena to the Timber Rattlers. First baseman Adam Giacalone has been transferred to Helena from the Timber Rattlers.

Cooper's in tonight's Rattlers lineup, batting 6th.

I have mixed feelings about this, Giacalone didn't do much with the bat but he was saving errors on a defensively challenged team, he's a very good 1B. It will be interesting to see how this works out as I am excited to see Garrett Cooper play, hopefully he's solid defensively and continues to swing it.

That's a tough deal for Giacalone but you will like Cooper.

Unless Giacalone improved his defense considerably from when in Helena Cooper is better.

Cooper is also a better hitter with much more power upside.

I will be interested to see what this means for Jalen Harris. Harris has done a real good job while

Cooper was injured. Excellent defense and has made the most of his opportunities at the plate in the

RBI department. Giacalone may hit for a higher average but Harris has more power and is a much

better athlete.
