It's draft time!

The 2013 MLB amateur player's draft starts in about 45 minutes (7pm ET).

The Brewers, of course, do not have a pick in the first round. We forfeited the 17th pick when we signed Kyle Lohse (the Cardinals will pick up the 28th pick as compensation). But we will have multiple picks this evening, as the first three rounds will be completed tonight.

The draft order

Milwaukee will pick 54th, 72nd (competitive balance round B), and 90th.

Who's available? Here's a list of the top 100 prospects available tonight per Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com Top 100

Do the Brewers go with a pitching prospect in the first round, or do we follow what we did in 2012, taking hitters with our first three selections?

Thanks, theCrew. I just wanted to make sure that people knew the draft was starting tonight. ;)

What are the odds that picks 17 and 28 become hall of famers?

Very low. Only one future Hall of Famer I see picked at either of these two draft slots since the modern draft began in 1989:

17th picks with 10 + WAR

Cal Eldred 1989 16.2 WAR

Jeromy Burnitz 19.6 WAR

Cole Hammels 2002 30.3 WAR

Roy Halladay 1995 64.6 WAR

28th picks with 10 + WAR

Charles Johnson 1992 20.5 WAR

question, not sure if this is the appropriate spot. without the first round pick, does the brewers pool money get adjusted. ie if Ryne Stanek or another player continues to fall can the brewers pay him way over slot and be fine?

They lose ability to spend the money that would have been slotted for the first round pick.

After losing the 1st round pick the Brewers have the 2nd lowest pool allotment in MLB if I remember correctly.
