Just in case anyone hadn't noticed, Ariel Pena has been putting up some eye-catching numbers.

1.93 ERA over his past 10 starts. 1.21 over his past 5, with a 12/36 BB/K ratio over 29.2 IP (& only 1 HR allowed).

Suffice it to say he's turned into a must-follow... which is quite reassuring, given how his first 'season' as Brewers property went.

It's been a quiet year for Reds' CF prospect Billy Hamilton headline wise as he hasn't been hitting enough to make an impact, especially in April. He's been ascending for the last month so we'll likely see his name start popping up again.

IL notes: Hamilton has plenty on plate

I can't fight this feelin' anymore. I must follow Ariel Speedwagon tonight.

Manatees 'stung' by Daytona, bees and rain

Swarm of bees hit stadium in Viera

VIERA — Just when you think you’ve seen every type of baseball delay, Brevard County Manatees officials were all abuzz Sunday afternoon, making sure the 5 p.m. game against Daytona went off without any delays — or stings.

About 4,000 honey bees decided to take a rest on the top step of the visiting dugout, prompting General manager Kyle Smith to find a beekeeper willing to come out on Sunday afternoon.

Groundskeepers spotted the bees four hours before game time.

“We called these guys who came up from Palm City to handle it for us on a Sunday and we really appreciate that,” Smith said. “If we could have had a game called for bees, that would have been a first. I like publicity but that wouldn’t have been good.”

Daytona Cubs players approached the dugout cautiously so as not to rile the remaining bees.

“There was like a three-foot section of bees on the ground moving around and it was pretty cool,” said Daytona pitcher P.J. Francescon. “They don’t bother me. There’s a lot of guys here who might be little girls about it.”

Asked to respond to rumors that Manatee players might have slathered honey in the opposing dugout to try and throw the Cubs off his game, Smith laughed heartily.

“I can neither confirm nor deny those remarks,” he smiled.

The Manatees ended up losing 5-0 in the seventh when a rainstorm hit.

And here's the photo and video proof, yikes!

Thank goodness the bees didn't interfere with the 2013 regional finals of the Hooters International Swimsuit Pageant, as those photos are conveniently linked for you on the same page :).

Well the Rattler game went south in a hurry. After Peoria's (Cards) 5 run 4th the T-Rats are now losing 9-3 in the bottom of 4.

Well since the Brewers don't have a single top 100 prospect it shouldn't be a surprise that none of our players made the list. The only divisional player to make it was Reds' RHP Robert Stephenson. Reading about Stephenson's K totals got me wondering about the Brewer organization. Would you believe that in the month the month of May the 4 best strike out pitchers in the organization were... Tyler Thornburg (11.5), Drew Gagnon (10.8), Ariel Pena (10.7), and R.J. Seidel (10.0)? I'll be honest, if I was given 20 guesses there's no way I would have guessed Seidel in the top 4.

Here's the Brewers' minor league pitching for the month of May which I took my information from. If you sort by SO/9 you will see very notable names at the bottom of that list.

Final: Peoria (Cards) 11, Wisconsin 7

Rattlers drop final game of series to Peoria

Peoria takes charge with five runs in the fourth inning

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Peoria Chiefs defeated the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 11-7 Monday afternoon at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Jordan Walton had three this and four RBI to help Peoria build an insurmountable lead early in the game.

The teams traded runs in the first inning. Breyvic Valera doubled to start the game for Peoria. Ildemaro Vargas bunted for a sacrifice, but there was a miscommunication on the bunt defense and the throw to first went down the right field line to let Valera score. The Rattlers answered when Tyrone Taylor drove in Michael Reed with a single in the bottom of the inning.

The Chiefs (30-25) pushed back in front with three runs in the top of the second inning. They had runners on first and third with one out and Gerwuins Velazco drove in the go ahead run with a sacrifice fly. Valera followed with a two-out, two-run triple for a 4-1 lead.

Wisconsin (24-29) cut the Peoria lead back to one with single runs in the second and third innings. Mike Garza tripled to start the second. Max Walla picked up an RBI with a ground out that scored Garza. Adam Giacalone drove in Reed with a two out single in the third and the Rattlers trailed 4-3.

But, Peoria scored five times in the top of the fourth inning to take control of the game. Rattlers starting pitcher Preston Gainey walked the first two batters of the inning and was replaced by Taylor Wall. Velazco was asked to bunt the runners along, but got more than he was expecting. The bunt to third was fielded cleanly, but the throw to first bounced into right field A run scored on the play. Then, Valera followed with an RBI single and the Chiefs were just getting started.

A sacrifice bunt by Vargas moved both Velazco and Valera up a base. Wall walked Jacob Wilson intentionally to load the bases and set up a possible inning ending double play. Jordan Walton foiled that plan by dropping a single in to short right to drove in two runs. The play also put runners on the corners with one out. Wall retired the next batter for the second out and had an 0-2 count on Jeremy Schaffer. Then, Wall - a left-hander - bluffed a throw to third base. Due to a rule change this past offseason, pitchers may no longer bluff to third. The play was ruled a balk and Wilson trotted home with the run that made it 9-3.

Peoria starting pitcher Silfredo Garcia allowed three runs on six hits, walked one, and struck out six over seven innings on Monday to pick up his second win of the year.

The Chiefs tacked on two more runs with two outs in the eighth inning. Walton doubled to drive in Vargas and Wilson for an 11-3 lead.

Wisconsin scraped for some runs late to get close. Victor Roache single and took second on a wild pitch with one out in the eighth. Garza singled him home. In the ninth, Orlando Arcia singled with two outs to knock in Brent Dean. Tyrone Taylor followed with an infield single, his second hit of the game, to extend the game. Giacalone struck out put the ball got away from the Peoria catcher to let Giacalone reach and Arcia score from third base. Roache kept the rally going with a single to drive in Taylor but 11-7 was as close as the Rattlers would get.

Peoria took three of four from the Rattlers in this series and leads the season series 7-4.

The Timber Rattlers are off on Tuesday and return to action against the Beloit Snappers on Wednesday night against the Beloit Snappers. Tyler Wagner (5-3, 2.88) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Austin House (0-4, 3.62) is set to start for the Snappers. Game time on Wednesday is 7:05pm.

Final: Birmingham 9 Huntsville 8

Huntsville jumped out to a 3-0 lead early but wasn't able to hold on as Montgomery stormed back to take game two 9-8 Monday night at The Joe. Stars pitchers matched a season high with 12 walks allowed and also committed a balk and uncorked a wild pitch. Ariel Pena started and went 5 innings tonight. He allowed 4 runs on 6 hits and 4 walks while striking out 7. Pena ended up with a no decision tonight. His outing was not as sharp as he's been recently. Still, he struck out 7. 50 of the 88 pitches he threw were for strikes.

The 6th inning tonight really destroyed the Stars chances to win. Huntsville needed 3 pitchers to get 3 outs. Santo Manzanillo (1-2) started the 6th and worked 2/3 innings. He gave up 3 runs, all earned on 1 hit and 2 walks. He was relieved by lefty Dan Meadows. Meadows had a night to forget. He faced 4 batters and walked all 4. Combined, Manzanillo and Meadows walked 6 straight. Eric Marzec was brought on next and got out of the 6th. He also worked the 7th. Marzec's line was 1 1/3 innings, no runs, 1 hit, 1 balk. Starter Andy Moye worked an inning of relief tonight. Moye, scheduled to start game 5 of the series, worked in relief in lieu of his normal bullpen session. Andy worked a 1-2-3 8th inning. Closer Casey Medlen worked the 9th and struggled again. Medlen gave up a run on 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 1. Medlen's ERA has now climbed up to 6.05.

Huntsville Box Score

The Stars out hit the Barons 13-10 tonight. Left fielder Brock Kjeldgaard and Right fielder Kentrail Davis each had 3 hits tonight for Huntsville. Davis went 3-5 with 2 doubles, 2 RBI's and 3 runs scored. Kjeldgaard was also 3-5 with 2 RBI's. Catcher Shawn Zarraga was 2-4 with a walk as the Stars continue to get strong offensive output from their catchers. He doubled and scored twice as well. Shortstop Hector Gomez was also 2-4 with a run scored and 2 RBI's. Rene Tosoni was 2-5 and first baseman Jason Rogers had the Stars other hit, going 1-4 with a run scored and an RBI, his league leading 44th. Tough to score 8 and lose.
