In the 6th Brewers take Garrett Cooper 1B from Auburn, another senior sign.

At least he was born on Christmas... is he the Brewers' savior?

He's a 1B named Cooper? How could he not be?

might not be of the same Cooper lineage we were hoping for...

Apparently it's a rule that the Brewers have to select an Auburn senior 1B every 3 years.
This is Jack Burton in the Pork Chop Express, and I'm talkin' to whoever's listenin' out there.

Actually looking at his stats at Auburn, he could be pretty solid. Hit .354 in 2013 (.324 in 2012). 37 walks in ~238 PA led to a .481 OBP. Doesn't seem like he has the most power in the world but at 6'6" 230, maybe he could find the power stroke?

How does he compare to how Hunter Morris looked when we drafted him? I don't recall him being thought of that highly but has done pretty well so far.

They don't really look too much alike...

Perfect Game on Garcia:

"Omar Garcia is a 2011 OF with a 5-11 170 lb. frame from Oviedo, FL who attends Lake Howell HS. Live athletic build, some present strength. Excellent runner, 6.53/4.23 home to first from the right side. Quick hands hitting, sound swing mechanics, calm approach, good balance, some extension out front, some present bat speed, line drive contact. Good raw arm strength, footwork and approach to the ball still need developing. High ceiling athlete who can improve. Good student. Signed with High Point. "

I like.

The brewers are certainly stocking up on CF depth anyway. at some point some of them will turn into (hopefully) pretty nice assets. gomez and schaefer in the bigs, prince and gindl at AAA, davis at AA (putting together a nice season to follow his hot second half last season), haniger at high A, taylor and reed at low A, rivera in short season, add this garcia kid (hopefully hes got some talent) and the brewers are REALLY deep at the position. If everyone keeps progressing the brewers will be in good shape to continually trade a premium position and restock the farm.

As for Brandon Diaz, here's a scouting report from perfect game:

Brandon Diaz is a 2013 OF/2B with a 5-11 170 lb. frame from Coral Springs, FL who attends American Heritage HS. Slender athletic build, deceiving physical strength. 6.43 runner, very quick twitch athlete. Right handed hitter, hand drop load, very strong and quick hands, whips the barrel, uppercut swing plane with lift out front, ball jumps hard and really carries, big time raw power, squares the ball up and hits under control, power/speed combination on offense is very intriguing. Second base build and profile, only played outfield, has some raw arm strength, looks inexperienced in the outfield, tentative jumps and approach to the ball. Still to define defensive position/skills but very top level offensive talent. Good student, verbal commitment to Florida International.

Speed/power combo seems nice, and he's a HSer to boot so there's lots of development time left. You could do a whole lot worse with an 8th round pick.

There it is! a pick to get excited about!! sounds raw, but thats okay he'll have time to develop. Call it a rickie weeks phobia but i dont like hearing that he has a hand drop and uppercut swing i just hope he doesnt love swinging at low and away pitches.

9th: Tyler Linehan LHP Fresno State (CA)

I believe they said he was 6' 240 lbs... if so, he's a reliever.
