Kila Ka'aihue

Diamondbacks released 1B Kila Ka'aihue.

The release was requested by Ka'aihue, who had an out clause in his contract. He batted .313/.426/.620 with 16 homers and 50 RBI at Triple-A Reno before asking to be cut loose. He won't have trouble catching on elsewhere.

This would be a nice addition!!! Are the D-Backs so deep at 1B that they can let a guy like this loose?

The ball carries at Reno, it does just about everywhere in the PCL west, and he's 29 years old. Have you looked at his career stats?

Considering his MLB stats, he certainly looks like a better option at 1B than Betancourt, or at least a better option on the MLB roster than Gonzalez

I would not consider Ka'aihue a legitimate everyday option over Corey Hart or Hunter Morris. However, Ka'aihue's career line (.221/.305/.382) is still significantly better than Yuniesky Betancourt (.221/.250/.374) or Alex Gonzalez (.177/.203/.230) this year. Ka'aihue is a step up from either Betancourt or Gonzalez at first base right now, and while he doesn't play middle infield, we probably won't need a third backup middle infielder when Hart comes back.

I'd be OK with grabbing him and releasing Gonzalez. He can have a couple weeks to produce and if it doesn't work out we can release him when Hart comes back. We already have Bianchi and Betancourt as backups, so no real need for Gonzalez at this point.

He's released from his contract. That means we have to sign him, which also requires him to want to sign for us. Knowing the situation at hand, He plays for a couple-few weeks before being sent down or released. Is that something he'd sign for?

I do agree he's better than Gonzalez or Yuni at 1b simply on the fact, he is a 1bman! It'd be nice to experience this season with our first day of having a 1b on the active roster.

Reno is a hitters paradise. Cody Ransom put up huge numbers there in 2011. So did Wily Mo Pena and Ryan Langerhans. Ransom is on the Cub bench. Pena is struggling in Japan and Langerhans is hitting .250 in AAA. Betancourt would likely hit .330 and slug over .550 in Reno too.
