More on Sale, what a putz.

From that second article: "Sale was suspended for 50 games on Aug. 27, 2012, after testing positive for Methamphetamine and an Amphetamine."

Meth? Holy crap. Combining that with his recent grace in the strip club... to quote a famous young Skywalker upon seeing the Millennium Falcon for the first time... "What a piece of junk!"

Know the stadium talk is always fuzzy (and tedious) -- heck, there is a wonderful facility in Brevard County and even that gets its share of updates. Another article on the Nationals' potential spring training plans after 2014, does include one additional note:

The county also would seek to enter into a long-term lease agreement with the Brevard County Manatees to continue to make Space Coast Stadium its home.

Beloit Bottom of the 3rd

Defensive Substitution: Mike Garza replaces third baseman Jose Sermo, batting 9th, playing third base.

That's a bummer for young Mr. Sermo - gets two hits in the top of the 3rd, and then apparently got dinged up enough to leave the game right away on that play.

Wagner & the Rattlers ride big inning to win over Beloit

Wisconsin scores seven runs in the third & Wagner allows one run in seven innings

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

BELOIT, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers gave Tyler Wagner a nine run lead on Thursday against the Beloit Snappers at Pohlman Field. Wagner allowed one run over seven solid innings as the Rattlers ended their two-week road trip with a 9-5 win.

Michael Reed put the Timber Rattlers (23-26) in front in the first inning. Alfredo Rodriguez drew a walk to start the game. He was at second with two outs. Reed drove a single through the middle of the infield on a 3-2 pitch to drive in Rodriguez for the 1-0 lead.

Wisconsin sent eleven men to the plate in the top of the third inning and scored seven runs to take control of the game. Jose Sermo started the inning with a single. Rodriguez singled and Orlando Arcia walked to load the bases with no outs. Tyrone Taylor lined a double off the glove of the Beloit third baseman to drive in Sermo and Rodriguez. Michael Reed followed with a two-run single to drive in Arcia and Taylor for a 5-0 lead.

That single by Reed knocked Beloit starting pitcher Dakota Bacus out of the game and the Snappers called on Stu Pudenz to stop the Wisconsin onslaught.

Adam Giacalone greeted Pudenz with a double to left-center that drove in Reed for a 6-0 lead.

Pudenz got the first out of the inning, but the Timber Rattlers weren't done. Max Walla singled and Chris McFarland walked to load the bases again. Sermo, in his second at bat of the third inning, singled to drive in two more runs for an 8-0 lead.

Giacalone added another run with the Wisconsin lead in the top of the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly that scored Arcia.

Beloit (31-22) broke through against Wagner in the bottom of the sixth. Ryan Mathews singled and Brett Vertigan doubled with one out. Daniel Robertson knocked in Mathews with a ground out to second to make the score 9-1.

That was all Wagner would give up in the game. He struck out four, allowed four hits, and walked none to pick up his fifth win of the season.

Beloit scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth on one swing of the bat. Reliver Martin Viramontes gave up a leadoff single and got the next two outs on strikeouts. But, a single and a walk on a 3-2 pitch extended the game to Christopher Bostick.

Bostick crushed a 2-2 pitch from Viramontes for a grand slam to make the score 9-5.

Viramontes got the next hitter on a strikeout to end the game.

Wisconsin went 5-7 with one rainout on their trip through Burlington, Quad Cities, Peoria, and Beloit.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers return to Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium on Friday to face the Peoria Chiefs at 7:05pm. Damien Magnifico (5-0, 4.15) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Peoria has not named their starting pitcher for the game at this time.

Miller Summer Kickoff at the ballpark on Friday. Miller products will be available for $1 from May 31 through June 7.

Friday is also a North Shore Bank Family Night. Kids 12 and under receive a voucher good for a free hotdog and a free soda. There is a postgame fireworks display scheduled and after the fireworks Molina Healthcare presents Kids Run the Bases for children 14 and under.

Also, break out your shamrocks and be ready to look for a pot of gold on Friday night for Oshkosh Irish Fest's St. Patty's Day in May.

If you can't make it out to the ballpark, there are several ways to catch the action. My NEW32's Sports Showdown will broadcast the game beginning with the pregame show at 6:30pm. Subscribers to MiLB.TV can catch the in-stadium broadcast. The radio broadcast starts on AM1280, WNAM and timberrattlers.com starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:45pm.

HOME RUN:

Christopher Bostick (4th, Grand Slam off Martin Viramontes in the 9th inning, 2 out)

WP: Tyler Wagner (5-3)

LP: Dakota Bacus (4-2)

TIME: 2:26

ATTN: 938

I'm not sure why but this made me laugh, Chris will have a true post game up later.

Musical Interlude – May 30, 2013

Wisconsin Boxscore

Tyler Wagner have a day... I'm digging him. Some more strike outs would have been nice but I'll take it, gotta love that 12:2 GO:FO ratio for the more statistically orientated out there. MH beat me to the punch on Jose Sermo, I hope that's not injury related. I was only able to listen to the 6th and 7th while I ate lunch so I missed what happened with him.

Tyrone Taylor finally had a multi-hit game, good for him, as did Michael Reed and Sermo. Orlando Arcia was 1-3 but he walked twice, he now has more walks (16) than strike outs (15), he's hitting .333 over his last 10 games, and he's only 18 years old in A ball. Hopefully he develops similar to power to his brother. Arcia and Segura could be one heck of a middle infield combination. Yes I know I'm getting way ahead of myself, but it's fun to dream in an otherwise dreary MLB season.

If scoring 9 runs wasn't enough the boys played clean defense, what a big difference that would make for them in the 2nd half if they keep it rolling.

Scooter Gennett celebrates with Hainley Statia after hitting his first home run of the season (Mike Strasinger / Nashville Sounds)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Scooter Gennett belted his first home run of the year and Sean Halton smacked a grand slam to power the Nashville Sounds to a 6-1 win over the division-rival Iowa Cubs on Thursday evening at Greer Stadium.

Chris Narveson made the first start of his rehabilitation assignment with Nashville as he recovers from a sprained middle finger on his pitching hand. The southpaw worked two scoreless frames, allowing a game-opening single before retiring his next six batters faced. He threw 12 of his 22 pitches for strikes.

The Sounds grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. After Josh Prince drew a leadoff walk from Iowa starter Brooks Raley, he raced all the way home from first on Stephen Parker's RBI double to right.

Gennett (3-for-5) doubled the home team's advantage to 2-0 in the third when he belted his first home run of the season, a leadoff solo shot to right off Raley.

R.J. Seidel (1-2) followed Narveson to the hill for the Sounds and turned in a stellar outing to earn his first career Triple-A victory. The right-hander allowed one run on six hits over 5 2/3 frames while striking out five.

Raley (4-4) took a quality-start loss for the I-Cubs. The southpaw allowed two runs on six hits over six innings of work.

Halton gave the Sounds some breathing room in the seventh when he crushed a grand slam to left off Cubs reliever Marcus Hatley. The bases-loaded jack was the outfielder's fifth roundtripper of the year and plated Gennett (single), Hainley Statia (walk), and Khris Davis (walk) to up the lead to 6-0.

The I-Cubs got onto the board in the top of the eighth when Brian Bogusevic's two-out single plated Darnell McDonald to make it a 6-1 game.

The Sounds will look to secure their first winning series of the season when the teams wrap up the four-game series with a 7:05 p.m. finale on Friday evening. Right-hander Johnny Hellweg (3-4, 3.99) will make the start for the Sounds and face Iowa right-hander Yoener Negrin (0-1, 2.73).

Final: Brevard County 1, Clearwater (Phillies) 4

'Tees drop fourth straight, swept by Threshers

By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees were swept in a series for the first time in 2013 as they dropped the finale of their three-game set with the Clearwater Threshers, 4-1 on Thursday night at Bright House Field.

The Threshers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning on starting pitcher David Goforth (4-5, 3.05) and the 'Tees (27-25). Chris Serritella drove in Maikel Franco, who led off the frame with a double, with a double of his own.

Clearwater (27-25) tacked two more on in the third on a two-out, two-run home run by Kelly Dugan.

Threshers starting pitcher Hoby Milner retired 13 Brevard County hitters before finally allowing a Manatee to reach base. That would come in the form of a one-out, solo homer off the bat of Nick Ramirez in the fifth inning.

For Ramirez, it was his 11th home run of the season and seventh against Clearwater in 12 games against the Threshers this season. Ramirez has gone deep seven times in May and is hitting .306 (11-for-36) with five homers and 11 RBI in his last ten games.

That would be the only run that the 'Tees would plate on the night however as they managed just four singles, including two from Cameron Garfield, the rest of the way against Milner, Juan Sosa and Ryan O'Sullivan.

The Threshers padded their lead in the seventh as Aaron Altheer tripled with two outs to chase Goforth from the game. Stephen Peterson would then come in and give up a double to Dugan that plated Altheer and closed the book on Goforth.

For Goforth, he allowed four runs on eight hits, while walking one and striking out seven for the second straight start against the Threshers. Goforth is now 1-4 with a 4.88 ERA in five road starts in 2013.

Brevard County will look to snap its season-high four game losing streak as they open a three-game series with the Daytona Cubs (26-25) at Space Coast Stadium on Friday night at 6:35 p.m.

The two teams will then play on Saturday at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach, before returning to Viera for Sunday's series finale.

After coming out of the bullpen since coming off the disabled list, Jacob Barnes (4-1, 2.00) will get his first start since April 23 on Friday. The Cubs will send southpaw Kyler Burke (1-0, 0.90) to the mound.

Brevard County Box Score

David Goforth allowed four runs on eight hits in 6.2 innings. He struck out seven batters. Stephen Peterson pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless relief. Nick Ramirez homered again for the Manatees, he has four home runs in his last six games. Cameron Garfield went 2 for 4. Yadiel Rivera and Chadwin Stang each singled for the other two BC hits.

Brevard County Play-By-Play

Brevard County Top of the 5th

Cameron Garfield strikes out swinging.

Nick Ramirez homers (11) on a fly ball to right field.

Yadiel Rivera singles on a ground ball to center fielder Aaron Altherr.

T. J. Mittelstaedt strikes out swinging.

Lance Roenicke pops out to first baseman Harold Martinez in foul territory.

Jungmann, Timely Hitting Leads Stars to Victory

By Alex Cohen / Huntsville Stars

En route to their second straight victory, the Huntsville Stars got yet another quality start from starting pitcher Taylor Jungmann and scored two runs in three separate innings to roll to a 6-3 win against the Jackson Generals on Thursday.

Just like in game two of the series, the Stars broke out to an early lead and never looked back on Friday night. Starting in the first inning, a two-run single from outfielder Brock Kjeldgaard off of Jackson starting pitcher Roenis Elias (L, 2-5) to put the Stars up by two (audio).

One inning later, an RBI double from second basemen Ozzie Chavez (audio) and an RBI single from shortstop Hector Gomez (audio) put Huntsville up 4-0.

With Jungmann blanking the Generals bats through the first five innings of the game, a two-run homer from Stars catcher Adam Weisenburger in the sixth inning put Huntsville up by six runs.

Fortunately for Huntsville, that was plenty of run support for the 23-year-old hurler. The Temple, Texas native limited the Jackson offense to just one baserunner over his first six innings of work. His only blemish of the evening was allowing the first two batters to reach base in the seventh inning and then giving up a three-run homer to Generals first baseman Rich Poythress before being chased from the game.

In the end, the Brewers second ranked prospect (per MLB.com) improved to 5-5 on the year after giving up those three runs in six-plus innings of work while striking out a season-high seven batters in the process.

To preserve the win for Jungmann, lefty Dan Meadows took over for the starter and pitched two scoreless innings while reliever Greg Holle threw a scoreless ninth to earn his fourth save of the season.

On offense, the Stars were paced by three hits from Gomez, his second three-hit game of the season. Chavez also chipped in with two hits.

After snapping a three-game losing skid on Wednesday, the victory for the Stars on Thursday gives them a chance to win their third series in their last four tries with a win in either one of the last two games of the series against the Generals.

On Friday, the Stars and Generals will play game four of a five-game series at The Ballpark At Jackson. Huntsville will try to earn that series victory by sending RHP Andy Moye (2-6, 4.73 ERA) to the bump as Jackson will counter with RHP Chance Ruffin (2-2, 2.72 ERA). First pitch is at 7:05 CT.
