Programming notes: Jackson has MiLB.TV coverage, so if you're a subscriber, you can watch this Stars' series (live and/or archived).

No Brevard County audio from the Manatees' crew for this series in Clearwater, but you can listen to the Threshers' call here.

Odds and ends:

The Tennessean has a notes column featuring the smooth transition the players had to interim Manager Charlie Greene.

***

Florida Today has a new column about the future of Space Coast Stadium, from making a bid for the Brewers to move their operations there (an admittedly “Hail Mary” possibility, the article notes), to the last-resort option of tearing down the stadium, and developing something else there or selling the property. But every other possibility would need to be considered first. Of course, there are options in between those.

***

The Manatees are currently the only above .500 affiliate at 27-23, but their "expected" Pythagorean W-L record is only 21-29. With Brevard County and Wisconsin notes already posted, that's just one of the many tidbits you should peruse.

Is Chris McFarland hurt? He's only played in one of the last four games for the Timber Rattlers and that was as the DH.

Not that Chris has mentioned the past couple of days. Rodriguez had been hot at the plate, maybe that had something to do with it?

I see the T-Rats only have 2 hits thus far and I haven't been able to listen because I've been out at customer sites all morning and I'm hitting the road again, but I'd hope they turn it around.

T-Rats lose getting shut out. I'll be on the road for the next hour or so but I'll get the summary up around 4 PM or so.

Snappers shutout the Timber Rattlers

Wisconsin held to three hits at Pohlman Field

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

BELOIT, WI - Vincent Voiro and Derek De Young foiled Wisconsin Timber Rattlers batters all day long at Pohlman Field on Wednesday. The Beloit Snappers pitching duo shutout the Rattlers on three hits and were supported by a pair of home runs on the way to a 3-0 victory.

Beloit (31-21) took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Rattlers starting pitcher Eric Semmelhack hit Chad Lewis to start the inning. Then, Christopher Bostick hit a fly ball that barely cleared the wall in left-center. But, it did clear the wall for a two-run home run to put the Snappers in front.

Wisconsin (22-26) had problems solving Beloit starter Vincent Voiro. The right-hander allowed two hits, walked none, and struck out three. Plus - due to a some outs on the bases - Voiro faced the minimum through his six innings of work.

The only real threat of the day for the Timber Rattlers was in the top of the eighth inning. Victor Roache doubled to left to start the frame against De Young. But, Roache was left stranded at second base when the inning ended.

Beloit added to their lead when Matt Olson hit a home run against Preston Gainey to lead off the bottom of the eighth.

Wisconsin would get a runner on base in the ninth inning against De Young, but they could not cash in and wound up getting shutout for the fourth time this season. De Young allowed one hit and struck out two to pick up his second save of the season.

Semmelhack took the loss for Wisconsin. He scattered four hits and two walks over four innings with four strikeouts. Taylor Mangum pitch an inning of scoreless relief. Gainey struck out five to match his single game high as a professional.

The final game of Wisconsin's two-week road trip is Thursday morning when the Rattlers face the Snappers at Pohlman Field. Tyler Wagner (4-3, 3.14) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin. Beloit has Dakota Bacus (4-1, 3.15) set to start. Game time is 11:00am. Tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM or timberrattlers.com starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 10:40am.

HOME RUNS:

BEL:

[Christopher Bostick (3rd, 1 on in 2nd inning off Eric Semmelhack, 0 out)

Matt Olson (7th, 0 on in 8th inning off Preston Gainey, 0 out)

WP: Vincent Voiro (3-1)

LP: Eric Semmelhack (1-2)

SAVE: Derek DeYoung (2)

TIME: 2:07

ATTN: 711

Wisconsin Boxscore

The T-Rats have had a razor thin margin of error in this series. Every hit batter or error has been the difference in the outcome, it just hasn't been a good series as this was the Rattlers 4th loss in a row.

Max Walla and Michael Reed were the only baserunners before Victor Roache's 8th inning double, unfortunately both were erased by caught stealing.

Unfortunately MiLB.com will probably have a story up on this game later.

Final: Brevard County 4, Clearwater (Phillies) 5 (10 Innings)

'Tees edged in ten on walk-off walk

Brevard drops third in a row to Clearwater in 5-4 matinee

By Dave Walkovic / Brevard County Manatees

CLEARWATER, Fla. - With the bases loaded in a tie game, Chris Serritella drew a walk-off walk in the bottom of the tenth inning as the Brevard County Manatees fell 5-4 to the Clearwater Threshers on Wednesday afternoon at Bright House Field.

Matt Miller entered the game in the tenth and allowed a single to Aaron Altheer to start the frame before Kelly Dugan walked. Maikel Franco then popped up to first, which was then followed by Cameron Perkins being hit by a pitch. Altheer then crossed the plate after was forced in by the Serritella walk with a full count.

The Manatees (27-24) held a 4-2 lead into the seventh inning before a two-run double by Carlos Alonso tied the game. Andre Lamontagne, who entered the game to start the inning, recorded just two outs and allowed two runs on the Alonso hit and three walks.

Brevard County took the lead in the first inning on a two-run opposite field blast by Nick Ramirez. For Ramirez, it was his tenth homer of the year. Clearwater (26-25) responded with a Kelly Dugan two-run opposite field shot of his own in the bottom half of the inning off of Manatees' starting pitcher Jed Bradley.

Dugan's homer would be the lone mistake that Bradley would make all afternoon. He did not factor in the decision, but left the game with the lead after six innings of work. The southpaw allowed just the two runs on four hits and one walk. He fanned a season-high seven batters.

The 'Tees regained a two-run lead in the top of the fifth inning, as T.J. Mittelstaedt started things off with a one-out walk. Greg Hopkins singled up the middle to put runners on the corners. Hopkins and Ramirez both registered two hits in the ballgame for Brevard

With two outs, Hopkins stole second and an errant throw into center field by catcher Bob Stumpo allowed Mittelstaedt to score. The next batter, Cody Hawn, drove in Hopkins with a single lined to right field.

Kevin Shackelford tossed 2.1 scoreless innings of relief to keep the game tied into extra innings. Clearwater's Ryan O'Sullivan was credited with the win after he tallied a scoreless top half of the tenth.

The Manatees will look to avoid both the series sweep and their first four-game losing streak of the season as they wrap up their three-game set with the Threshers on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.

David Goforth (4-4, 2.77) will take the hill for Brevard County. Clearwater will counter with lefty Hoby Milner (4-2, 4.44).

Brevard County Box Score

Nick Ramirez belted his 10th home run of the season. He trails only Miguel Sano of the Twins for the Florida State League lead. Ramirez went 2 for 4 and drew a walk. Greg Hopkins stayed hot, going 2 for 5. Mitch Haniger was on base twice with a single and a walk. Cody Hawn and Chadwin Stang had the other two hits for the Manatees. Hopkins stole his fourth base of the year, but Stang got caught for the fourth time as well. Yadiel Rivera was hit by a pitch.

Jed Bradley pitched a pretty good game for BC. He went six innings and gave up just two runs on four hits. He struck out seven and walked just one. Andre Lamontagne really struggled after plunking Kyrell Hudson in the head. It may have shaken him up as he walked three and allowed one hit in just two-thirds of an inning. Kevin Shackelford did a good job of getting out of a seventh inning jam, on his way to tossing 2.1 innings of shutout ball, without allowing a hit. Matt Miller's season long struggles continued, as he retired just one batter before giving up the game winning run in the 10th.

Ariel Pena finishes the month of May: 32.1 IP (not sure what happened on 5/3 - rain out?), 21 H, 1 HR, 4 ER, 14 BB, 39 K, 1.11 ERA, 1.08 WHIP. Other than the walks that is a beautiful line. [sarcasm]Who says we have no pitching prospects...[/sarcasm]

On the walks, has anyone watched him extensively in person? Is he just missing, effectively wild, or "juuuuuust a bit outside"? Is it one specific pitch that he is having trouble locating or is it inconsistency across the board?

Hello old friend again... Brad Nelson starting for Iowa.

AUDIO: Game-Ending Double Play

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds held on to an early four-run lead Wednesday night at Greer Stadium to defeat the visiting Iowa Cubs by a 4-3 margin.

The Sounds put two runs on the board in the first inning via outfielder Josh Prince's double down the left-field line. The hit scored Caleb Gindl, who singled on a grounder into right field, and Stephen Parker, having reached base on balls.

Gindl, who finished two-for-four, added two runs in the following inning with a double off the side of the left-field wall. The two-out rally was spurred by starting pitcher Johnnie Lowe's first career hit: a double to dead center.

Scooter Gennett, scoring the second run in the second inning, reached base with a single. The Sounds second baseman has now reached base safely in 42 of his 46 games.

Lowe kept the I-Cubs hitless through the first three innings and finished after four, allowing two runs on two hits, walking two and striking out six in his first Triple-A start. His two runs came in the fourth inning on back-to-back RBI-hits from Dave Sappelt and Brad Nelson.

The I-Cubs added a run in the fifth, attacking Clay Hensley in his Nashville Sounds debut. The right-hander, added to the Nashville roster on Monday, started with a walk and allowed a double to pitcher Nick Struck. Logan Watkins drove in a run with a single to center. Hensley recorded a groundout and was relieved by Travis Webb (1-2), who prevented any further damage to pick up his first win of the season.

Frankie De La Cruz and Michael Olmsted both logged scoreless innings out of the Sounds bullpen. De La Cruz pitched the sixth and seventh innings, allowing just two hits to Iowa, while Olmsted fired two strikeouts in a hitless eighth.

Rob Wooten finished the game on the hill for Nashville to collect his seventh save of the season. After allowing two singles, Wooten collected a bunt from Watkins and got the runner at third for the first out and capped it off with a game-ending double play.

The Sounds play game three against the division-rival Iowa Cubs (Cubs affiliate) at Greer Stadium Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. LHP Chris Narveson is scheduled to make a rehab start for Nashville, opposite Iowa's LHP Brooks Raley (4-3, 4.53). The Sounds will be wearing retro blue uniforms for Burger King's Throwback Thursday, where fans can enjoy $2 beer and select concession items.
