Nice read, Brad --

Every season when the Brewers and their four full season affiliates in Nashville, Huntsville, Brevard County and Wisconsin break Spring Training in early April, there are a group of players who stay behind at the Brewers facility in Maryvale, Arizona.

Via Jeff Hem --

Johnnie Lowe to start Wed., replace Frankie De La Cruz (to 'pen). Chris Narveson scheduled for rehab start Thurs.

***

Not that Johnnie Lowe is someone to do backflips over, but the 2013 Frankie De La Cruz as a starter experiment is mercifully over after nine starts (ten appearances overall - stats).

Matt Hague 3B, Alen Hanson SS, and Stetson Allie 1B all of the Pirates win honors this week. Albert Almora CF Cubs 1st rounder last year picks up the honor after coming off the DL and getting his first action of the season this week.

Roache with another error, let a low liner that dropped in front of him get through to the wall. The Rattlers have 2 errors now in 2 innings but are somehow leading 3-2.

Clint Coulter was just pinch hit for in the 5th, Chris didn't have any idea why, hopefully has something for us in the blog later.

Apparently the team has been giving Tyrone Taylor the business about his 1 hit per game so I'm not the only one who noticed, all in good natured fun of course.

I did in fact jinx Jorge Lopez, he just gave up a HR to the first batter he faced. There is lightning all around the ballpark and Matt Erickson is pretty livid about why they started the bottom of the 5th inning with the lightning to have Lopez throw 4 pitches be done for the night. The tarp is coming on the field and the Rattlers are going to a delay.

Final: Brevard County 0, Clearwater (Phillies) 3

Brevard County Box Score

The Manatees were shut out again. It's the fifth time this season already that they have been shut out. They lead the Florida State League in strikeouts and are dead last in hits, walks, average and OPS. They struck out nine more times tonight. Carlos Zambrano was the starter for Clearwater, but it was Severino Gonzalez who really shut down BC. He gave up a walk to T.J. Mittelstaedt, the first batter he faced, then retired the next 11 in a row. Greg Hopkins had a pair of hits. He has a short four game hitting streak now and has six hits in those four games. Yadiel Rivera went 1 for 3 with a walk. Cameron Garfield and Cody Hawn had the other two Manatees hits, though according to the Clearwater radio call, Hawn's was just a pop up on the infield where the pitcher and third baseman almost collided, allowing the ball to drop. Mitch Haniger was held hitless for the first time since being promoted. Brandon Macias committed a throwing error, his seventh of the season.

Brent Suter pitched fairly well. Three runs in six innings, so a quality start, but he did allow eight hits. He did a good job of limiting the damage though and kept his team in the game. Chad Pierce pitched the final two innings, and didn't allow a run, despite walking the first three batters he faced. Garfield gunned down a runner trying to steal to keep the Threshers off the board in the seventh.

Brevard County Play-By-Play

BC brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth

Brevard County Top of the 9th

Pitching Change: Luis Garcia replaces Severino Gonzalez.

Nick Ramirez grounds out, second baseman Jonathan Roof to first baseman Chris Serritella.

Cameron Garfield strikes out swinging, catcher Logan Moore to first baseman Chris Serritella.

Cody Hawn singles on a ground ball to third baseman Maikel Franco.

Yadiel Rivera singles on a line drive to center fielder Kyrell Hudson. Cody Hawn to 2nd.

Brandon Macias strikes out swinging.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe Jimmy Nelson made about 10 starts last year in Huntsville. I wonder when he gets the bump to Nashville. Fantastic outing tonight.

One of the mantras of this front office regime is that they want players to "master a level" before being promoted. So I guess maybe after the draft would be a good guess as to when Nelson finally gets promoted.

Brevard blanked 3-0 in Clearwater

By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees\

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees managed just five hits as they were shutout for the fifth time this season in a 3-0 loss to the Clearwater Threshers in Tuesday night's series opener at Bright House Field.

The 'Tees (27-23) faced off against three-time Major League All-Star Carlos Zambrano as he got the start on the mound for the Threshers (25-25).

Brevard County recorded three hits off of Zambrano and drew two walks, but the Manatees could only get one runner in scoring position against him in his 4.1 innings of work.

For the Manatees, southpaw Brent Suter (3-3, 3.44) entered the game allowed just one run in each of his last three starts.

Clearwater would plate their first run off of Suter in the second as Chris Serritella, who reached on a one-out double, came around to score one batter later as Jose Mojica singled to left.

The Threshers scored two more runs against Suter in the bottom of the fifth as Aaron Altherr doubled to left to bring home both Kyrell Hudson and Jonathan Roof.

Suter's night would be done after six innings as he allowed eight hits, the most in his six starts with Brevard. He walked just one, but recorded just one strikeout, which is his lowest total in a game with the 'Tees this year.

Chad Pierce relieved Suter and kept Brevard County in the game as he extended his scoreless innings streak to 18.1 as he blanked Clearwater for two frames.

After the Manatees' offense went down in order in the sixth, seventh and eighth, Brevard started a two-out rally in the ninth.

Both Cody Hawn and Yadiel Rivera singled to put the potential tying run at the plate, in the form of Brandon Macias. Macias though would go down swinging against Luis Garcia to end the game.

Greg Hopkins was the only Manatee with a multi-hit night as he went 2-for-4. Hopkins is hitting .317 (13-for-41) in ten games so far against the Threshers this season.

It will be a quick turnaround for Brevard County and Clearwater as the two teams will square off in a Wednesday matinee at 1:00 p.m. at Bright House Field.

Southpaw Jed Bradley (3-2, 5.45) will get the ball for the 'Tees as he looks to bounce back from his last outing, in which he allowed a career-high eight runs.

For the Threshers, right-hander Perci Garner (4-0, 2.32) will toe the rubber. Garner has yet to face Brevard this season, but he was 2-0 with a 4.60 ERA in three starts against the 'Tees last season.
