Just an FYI, we could update indy league transactions on Brewer alumni near daily, but we do only on those within the system since this past spring training --

T-Rats are winning in the bottom of the 7th but the heavy rain is about 10 minutes out. They just need to get through the bottom of the 7th and let the game get called.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Despite erasing a two-run deficit late in the game, the Nashville Sounds lost 7-4 to the Albuquerque Isotopes on Memorial Day at Greer Stadium. The loss gives Albuquerque the 3-1 series win.

After the Sounds tied it up 4-4 in the seventh, the visiting team quickly recaptured the lead with a three-run double from Alfredo Amezaga in the top of the ninth. Albuquerque used a fielder's choice and two hits off reliever Tim Dillard (0-1) to set the table for Amezaga's game-winning hit.

Prior to the ninth, Sounds center fielder Caleb Gindl tied the game by tapping a sacrifice bunt to Albuquerque pitcher Chris Withrow. The bunt moved Khris Davis to third, who singled to get on base and stole second; and a throwing error on the play by Withrow over first base scored Davis.

Cole Garner had a big game for the Sounds, going two-for-three, with two home runs to left-field. Garner's first home run leveled the game in the fifth inning, sending Aaron Laffey's pitch off the top of the wall in left field; and his second, off reliever Red Patterson in the seventh, pulled the Sounds to within one.

Garner's multi-homer game is the sixth recorded by a Sounds hitter this season and the second of Garner's career. Garner has six homers on the year.

The Sounds scored first on a hit-and-run single from outfielder Khris Davis, two-for-four, but the one-run advantage did not last long as the Isotopes plated one in each of the following innings.

Starting pitcher Aaron Laffey drove in Albuquerque's first run on a two-out single into left field in the second inning, while his battery-mate Tim Federowicz made it 2-1 with a solo home run to left field in the third. Federowicz finished with three RBIs for Albuquerque. His base knock to left field off reliever Jesus Sanchez in the seventh put the Isotopes up 4-2.

Sounds starter Tyler Thornburg limited the Isotopes to two runs on seven hits through five innings of work. Thornburg faced a bases-loaded jam in his final inning and twirled two strikeouts to avoid any damage. The righty fanned a total of eight batters and walked one.

Travis Webb also saw work out of the 'pen for Nashville, loading the bases with two outs in the eighth, before Dillard entered to retire Justin Sellers on a fly ball.

Withrow (4-0) picked up the win for Albuquerque, his fourth, and was charged with a blown save. Kelvin De La Cruz netted the save with a hitless ninth inning.

The Sounds welcome the division-rival Iowa Cubs (Cubs affiliate) to Greer Stadium Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. LHP Zach Kroenke (2-6, 5.23) gets the start for Nashville opposite Iowa's LHP Chris Rusin (3-4, 3.88).

Peoria pops Rattlers in extra innings

Chiefs score three in 12th to beat Wisconsin 4-3

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

PEORIA, IL - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers scored two runs in the top of the twelfth inning at Dozer Park on Memorial Day. But, it wasn't enough. The Peoria Chiefs scored three times in the bottom of the twelfth to hand the Rattlers a heart-breaking 4-3 defeat in extra innings.

Parker Berberet put the Timber Rattlers (22-24) up 1-0. He slugged a long home run to left field to lead off the fifth inning. Clint Coulter nearly made it 2-0, but Michael Swinson leapt at the wall and robbed Coulter of a home run.

Austin Blaski was solid. He walked two, allowed five hits, but kept the Chiefs off the scoreboard. In the first inning, Breyvic Valera singled to start the frame. Blaski picked him off first base. Then, Ildemaro Vargas singled in the first inning. Blaski picked him off first, too.

Valera would single in the sixth inning against Blaski and a balk would move Valera into second with the tying run. Vargas followed with a fly ball to deep right that moved Valera to third with only one out. But, Blaski got out of the inning with a tapper back to the mound and a routine fly ball to center.

Taylor Wall entered the game in the bottom of the seventh as the rain started to fall. He worked around a leadoff walk and a two out double to maintain the 1-0 lead. The heavy rain that was headed for Peoria never hit the stadium and it never rained hard enough to stop the game. The rain eventually stopped in the tenth inning.

In the eighth, Vargas singled with one out. He was still at first with two outs. Then, Wall threw a wild pitch on a 1-2 pitch with Jacob Wilson at the plate. That allowed Vargas to move to second with the tying run. Wilson lined the next pitch to left for an RBI single to tie the game 1-1.

Wisconsin broke that tie in the top of the twelfth. Clint Coulter and Orlando Arcia singled with one out to put runners on the corners. Arcia moved to second on defensive indifference with Chris McFarland at the plate. The Rattlers still had runners at second and third with two outs when Sermo stepped to the plate. He lashed a single to right that drove in both runners for a 3-1 lead..

But, the Chiefs (25-23) rallied in the bottom of the twelfth. Valera singled and Vargas walked to start the inning. Swinson smacked a single up the middle to score Valera and send Vargas to third. Wilson, who tied the game in the eighth, tied the game again on a play that was also the game winner for the Chiefs. Wilson singled to center to drive in Vargas to make the score 3-3. Swinson attempted to go from first to third on the play and the throw from center hit him and trickled into foul territory.

Wilson took off for second when he saw the loose ball. The throw to try and get Wilson at second sailed into right field. That allow Swinson to trot home with the winning run.

The Timber Rattlers continue their current road trip with the start of a three-game series at Beloit's Pohlman Field on Tuesday night. Ryan Gibbard (2-1, 1.95) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Seth Streich (4-2, 6.81) is set to start for Beloit. Game time is 6:30pm. Tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM or timberrattlers.com starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:10pm.

HOME RUN:

WIS:

Parker Berberet (2nd, 0 on in 5th inning off Hector Hernandez, 0 out)

WP: Joe Donofrio (2-0)

LP: Jono Armold (1-1)

TIME: 3:12

ATTN: 1,302

Why do we fall? Postgame post for May 27, 2013

Wisconsin Boxscore

People often say football is a game of inches but baseball is more so. Wisconsin wins in regulation without Clint Coulter being robbed of a HR, and the Rattlers lost 2 defensive miscues, a wild pitch and a throwing error by Jose Sermo who went from hero to goat in about 5 mintues.

I'm not sure what to make of Austin Blaski, he's getting great results but his K/9 is awful. My impression from the way he works hitters is that he doesn't throw all that hard, but I haven't heard an accurate velocity report on him either. However, the ultimate result has been fantastic and he has a top notch pick-off move.

Final: Tennessee 8 Huntsville 6

Huntsville ended up on the down side of a back and forth game, losing 8-6 to the Smokies Monday night. Right hander Arcenio Leon struggled and was only able to work 3 1/3 innings tonight. He allowed 4 runs, 3 earned, on 5 hits and 4 walks while striking out 2. His error in the 1st inning led to the Smokies first run. It wasn't until the 4th when Leon really ran into trouble. He simply lost the strike zone and allowed 3 runs on 1 hit, 4 walks, and a hit batter. Leon threw 78 pitches, 48 for strikes. Leon's short outing snapped the Stars starters streak of quality starts at 8.

Mark Williams was summoned with the bases loaded and one out in the 4th and managed to get out of it on a double play by third baseman Mike Walker. Williams pitched a scoreless 5th as well. Unfortunately, the rest of the bullpen didn't share Williams's success. Santo Manzanillo pitched the 6th and gave up a run on 2 hits and a walk. Santo did strike out 2. Dan Meadows was next. He gave up his first run of the year in the 7th on 2 hits. Stars closer Casey Medlen was brought in to work the 9th of a tied game. Medlen (1-3) allowed a 2 out, 2 run home run that gave the Smokies their winning margin.

Huntsville Box Score

Brock Kjeldgaard had a 2-4 night and temporarily tied Jason Rogers for the Southern League lead in home runs when he hit is 9th of the season in the 4th. That lasted until the 5th when Rogers hit his 10th homer and upped his lead leading RBI total to 42. Third baseman Mike Walker had a 2-4 night. Hector Gomez and Kentrail Davis both doubled and drove in a run. Catcher Robinzon Diaz, who had his hitting streak snapped yesterday started a new one tonight with a single in the 4th.

Manzanillo's star was so bright 2 years ago... now his K:BB is upside down and predictably the results haven't been good. In fact his K/9 is currently the worst of his career, and it's not very close.

It sure seems that an awful lot of our minor league pitchers are having problems with walks. Coaching problem??

I don't know if this has been posted or not, but an interesting read on Cody Scarpetta. He was top 10 in ranking in our system in 2011.

Stars Drop Thriller, Series to Smokies

By Alex Cohen / Huntsville Stars

In a game that featured six lead changes, the Stars lost the series-deciding game of a five-game set with the Tennessee Smokies at Smokies Park by a score of 8-6 on Monday night.

The early (and often) scoring started in the first inning as Stars second baseman and leadoff man Nick Shaw hit his first homer of the season on the fifth pitch of the game to make the score 1-0 (audio). In the bottom half of the frame, Tennessee started the lead change trend as an RBI single from Airesmendy Alcantara tied up the game at one apiece.

Scoring remained silent until the fourth inning, where Stars outfielder Brock Kjeldgaard hit a solo homer off of Smokies starter Matt Loosen, giving him his third longball of the series while giving Huntsville a 2-1 lead.

However, they would once again lose the lead in the bottom half of the inning. Stars starting pitcher Arcenio Leon walked four batters in the frame, including two runs home with the bases loaded and also gave up a sacrifice fly to first baseman Jonathan Mota to put Tennessee up by two.

Leon was chased from the ballgame in the fourth (3.1 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 4 BB, 1K), ending the Stars streak of eight consecutive quality starts. Huntsville reliever Mark Williams got Leon out of the inning as he induced an inning-ending double play with the bases loaded.

One inning later, the Stars provided an equalizer of their own. After a two-out walk from outfielder Kentrail Davis, first baseman Jason Rogers crushed his league-leading 10th homer of the year well over the left-field wall to tie the game back up at four.

After the Smokies took the lead back in the sixth, back-to-back RBI doubles from shortstop Hector Gomez and Davis put the Stars back up 6-5 in the top of the seventh inning.

Unfortunately for the Stars, the Smokies offense had one last comeback up their sleeves. Following a game-tying RBI double from outfielder Rubi Silva in the seventh inning, Tennessee took the lead for good their next time up.

With Casey Medlen (L, 1-3) into the ballgame, catcher Chad Noble led off the inning with a single. Three batters later, Torreyes hit a two-out, two-run homer that barely hooked inside the left-field foul pole to put Tennessee up for good.

For the Smokies, reliever Tony Zych improved to 1-2 on year, shutting out the Stars in the final two innings of the game.

On offense, the Stars were led by Shaw, who had three hits. Third baseman Mike Walker and Kjeldgaard each had two knocks apiece.

The Stars will drive through the night to The Ballpark at Jackson to start a five-game series with the Jackson Generals on Wednesday. Huntsville will send RHP Jimmy Nelson (5-3, 2.98 ERA) to the bump to square off against Jackson RHP Erasmo James (1-1, 7.99 ERA). First pitch is at 7:05 CT.

first of all those responsible for the murder should be getting the Death Penality w/o question.

as far as the Pitching and walks througout the system if has to be an issue with the Nrewers if even the casual fans notice it.

I hope that gets looked at cause we need to be getting something postive out of the Pitching Prospects.
