What Impact Will Corey Hart Make For The Struggling Brewers?

rabe_post
Last Thursday (6-30) Roenicki told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that Hart could start minor league rehab by the following week, and Hart was seen on field this Saturday vs Philly doing running drills. However, there has yet to be any official announcement for a timetable, and it's well known that Hart has had a slow recovery thus far. I will keep an eye out.

A week later and we still don't have a timetable on Hart. I know medical recovery is an inexact science, but the fact that nobody diagnosed up to a half season missed certainly played a part in the decision making going into the season. It certainly has to factor into the failure of the season.

I agree that it significantly played a part. Especially if we end up not receiving anything for him. If we can't trade him this year, what is the chances he is a type A?

There are no longer Type A or Type B free agents only players who are offered a qualifying offer and those who are not offered a qualifying offer.

Even if they had thought he would only miss "1" month, they still failed start the season with a MLB option at 1B. Inexcusable.

Now that it has been 2 months, with the possibility of a 3rd, this was failure in immense proportion.

Yeah, I don't want to make excuses for Melvin as the lack of a MLB first baseman on the roster ultimately rests with him, but the calculus of making a move certainly changes if you know you're not getting Hart back in mid- to late-April. Heck, maybe you do take your lumps with Hunter Morris with the knowledge that he can at least field his position and the experience will be good long term.

I don't know if anyone on the medical staff deserves to get fired, but the medical staff certainly deserves scrutiny for a blunder of this scale.
