2013-05-21 Dodgers (Greinke) at Brewers (Burgos), 7:10 PM CDT [Brewers win, 5-2; Greinke's first MP loss]

You know, I'm getting really tired of the "old guard" posting to tell us how much the forum sucks right now. It's a little hypocritical to complain about how negative everybody is supposedly being, when the only posts you are making are themselves complaints. Two years ago, the team won 96 games. This year, the team is 9 games below .500. Are you really expecting everybody to be dancing in the isles? Nobody is breaking any rules, and there is a lot of intelligent discussion and analysis going on. Maybe you're just not looking hard enough.

Perhaps if you added something constructive to the discussions, they'd improve. As to the general attitude of the forum, when the team started out 2-8, I started a thread to try and bring some humor to the forum, and lift some spirits. 90% of the posters completely missed the intent of the discussion.

Bullpen was great tonight.

It was great tonight, and the pen's performance has been improving. If our offense can start scoring more consistently, and driving in runs when they're in position, we can slowly get back into this. We did it once, we can do it again. We just have to take it one step at a time.

Odd that the complaints come up in a game thread. It's about a particular game where people watch with real emotions about what's happening at that particular moment. A game thread isn't meant to have statistical or analytical posts. It's supposed to be a bunch of fans talking about the game that's currently going on. If the Brewers are playing well, posts will be positive. If the Brewers are playing bad, posts will be negative. If people don't want that, don't read game threads.

Absolutely. When a player is doing well, I'll be the first person to give them a pat on the back. When they're not, and our manager inexplicably continues to play them when there are other options to try, any Brewer fan is going to vent, myself included.

I'd imagine if you went to a sports bar, it would be much the same. You can have ten guys watching a game, all astute baseball fans, and their behavior will no doubt be directly tied to the team's performance. They'll clap and cheer, and exchange high fives when things are going well. When they're not, they'll boo, and grumble. Why why an online discussion about the game be any different?

The bullpen has been pretty good most of the year. It's going to become a problem if most of our starters continue their 4 or 5 inning starts, though.

Sure was great to see a win tonight. I hope we can start to turn this thing around.

I agree, chadomac. The bullpen overall has been much better this year.

Ax has been good his last three appearances. His pitches are looking good, which leads me to believe the problems he's been having closing have been mental. Henderson is doing a great job closing out games. If Axford can evolve into a kick butt setup guy (like David Robertson of the Yankees), I'll be thrilled. He'd be overpaid for the position, but if it works, meaning we shut opposing offenses down more consistently late in games, what the heck.

I agree 100%. The same can be said of game threads from every website and every fanbase. Game threads are filled with thoughts about the current game. Most of the posts are short posts regarding things that happened in the game. When the Brewers are playing well, the posts will be positive. When the Brewers are playing bad they are going to be negative. Tonight the team deserves good comments because of their good performance. The team deserved the negative comments they received for their pathetic peformance this month. Fans don't always have to sugarcoat things and be positive. When the team plays bad they deserve to get called out. I'll be the first one to praise Axford when he pitches well.

I think that his problem is all mental. The talent is there. Axford didn't lose his talent overnight. I think his problem might be that he's forgotten what he did that made him great in 2011. The hekyll and jyde act has caused him some problems. Three straight positive appearances is progress. Do you think he will ever be 2011 Axford again?

I don't think we need him to be the Axford of the 2011 to be successful. We've got a guy that, at least thus far, has been lights out closing it out (knock on wood). If John's head is right, he can come in to any situation, and blow people away. Maybe the 8th inning is the best use of him. I'm pretty superstitious when it comes to baseball (not Wade Boggs over-the-top superstitious, lol), but it's working, and I just don't think you mess with a good thing.

If we've got a kick butt 8th and 9th inning guy, we're shortening the game down for the opponents. They know they have to score before the 8th. The Yankees had that. For a while, the Giants had that. I don't think we're quite there yet, but it sure would be nice to get the back end where it was in 2011. One less thing to worry about.

Very nice win today. It was actually way more enjoyable, because Rickie Weeks didn't start. Bianchi is numbering Rickie's days in Milwaukee. Glad Axford was good. Perhaps his problems are more mental at this point. He's overpaid for an 8th inning guy, but like the other poster said if he can shut down the 8th inning that shortens the game. My fear is that because of the money Axford is making, and should he continue to pitch well, that they will make him the closer again. Where I think Axford can't mentally handle and to be honest I believe Henderson is a better closer with better more consistent stuff.

Man if this team had 2 more middle of the rotation SP's we would be really good right now, and have a good shot to get back into this race.

There was plenty of analysis and debate before the team won 96 games. I think the 'old guard' is growing tired of the constant negative posts without a lot of reason besides, "this guys stinks, that guys stinks."
