Look for Nashville media notes at the link just prior to game time.

New this season: Brevard County has media notes; as of now, it's a unique link each day, but look for it just prior to game time each day within the "Stats and Scores" banner here.

Heck, they're both already available today.

Schedule notes and more:

The Sounds are 12-30 and are closer to first place than the parent club. That's because the division leaders are only 22-20. Go, Nashville!

***

The Manatees are going to need some help to close the three-game gap behind Dunedin for the first half title. No games remaining with the Blue Jays until after the break.

***

At 30-13, the Twins' Midwest League club (Cedar Rapids) is running away with the division. But the Timber Rattlers are only 4.5 games out of clinching the 1st half wild card. The tough part is they'll have to hurdle five clubs to garner it.

From our own Brad -- just note the publish dates, sorry:

Audio from Tacoma — “Being (Charlie) Greene”

Tonight’s interview is with Charlie Greene, the Brewers’ minor league field coordinator and catching instructor who is also filling in for Mike Guerrero as Sounds manager this series while Guerrero attends to a personal matter. Greene discusses his role with the Brewers, the Brewers’ catchers in the major leagues and Triple-A, filling in as a manger compared to his normal role, how some other Brewers affiliates are doing and, as a former major league catcher, whether he thinks catchers are viewed and scouted differently today than years ago.

Charlie Greene mentioned that Mike Guerreo's father is not doing well, thus Mike's absence. Our best wishes go out to Mike as well as his brother Sandy, the Brewers' minor league hitting coordinator, and the entire Guerrero family and circle of friends.

Final: Huntsville 11 Montgomery 7

The Stars string of quality starts continued as Arcenio Leon (1-3) limited the Biscuits to 2 runs over 6 innings as Huntsville won 11-7 Tuesday night at The Joe. Leon, coming off his best start of the season, worked the deepest he has into a game this season by going 6 innings. Over those 6 innings, Leon allowed 2 runs on 2 hits and 4 walks while striking out 2. Leon also balked and threw a wild pitch, as it was not a completely errorless evening. Leon had a 10-4 ground out to fly out ratio and threw 50 of his 88 pitches for strikes.

Unfortunately, for the Stars, the bullpen was not as sharp as they've been in the past. All 3 relievers used tonight were touched up for runs. Eric Marzec worked an inning allowing 2 runs on 2 hits and a walk. Greg Holle allowed 1 run on 3 hits over 1 inning. Thomas Keeling saw his streak of 9 consecutive appearances without allowing a run come to an end. Working the 9th, Keeling gave up 2 runs, 1 earned on 2 hits while striking out 2.

Huntsville Box Score

Fortunately, for the Stars, the offense stayed on the attack all night, scoring in 7 of 8 innings. First baseman Jason Rogers led the attack with another big night at the plate. Rogers went 3-5 with 2 runs scored and drove in 5. Rogers hit 2 home runs, giving him 9 on the season. The 5 RBI's pushed his season total to 39. Both totals now lead the Southern League.

Designated hitter Robinzon Diaz had 3 hits, all doubles in 4 trips to the plate and scored a run. Kentrail Davis went 2-3 with a walk, scored 3 runs and both tripled and homered. Brock Kjeldgaard singled twice in 4 at bats. The only Stars hitter not to get a hit was Nick Shaw, but he still contributed 2 RBI's on 2 sacrifice flies.

Final: Palm Beach (Cardinals) 1, Brevard County 2

Manatees edge Cardinals on eighth inning error

Hall and Barnes combine to allow two hits in 2-1 win

By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees

VIERA, Fla. - Yet another pitching duel involving the Brevard County Manatees ended in a close game, with the home team taking a 2-1 decision against the Palm Beach Cardinals, thanks to an unearned run in the eighth inning on Tuesday night at Space Coast Stadium.

Palm Beach got on the board early thanks to a one-out walk and double in the first inning, but starting pitcher Brooks Hall (2-3, 2.72) then retired 14 straight batters as he totaled five strikeouts on the night.

Brevard County's (23-20) offense was held off the board until the fifth inning, when Yadiel Rivera led off with a single and then moved up 90 feet on a Lance Roenicke sacrifice bunt. Chadwin Stang brought Rivera home from second with a single to center to tie the game.

The Manatees and Cardinals (17-27) looked like they were heading into extra innings, until the bottom of the eighth. Stang led off the inning with a walk and two batters later with two outs a single from Cameron Garfield dropped in front of right fielder Stephen Piscotty, moving Stang from first to third base.

Piscotty's throw across the field was cut off by the shortstop Ronny Gil, who attempted to pickoff Garfield after his wide turn around first but Gil threw the ball away that allowed Stang to score. Brevard County improved its record to 12-4 in one-run games this season, which is tops in the Florida State League.

Jacob Barnes relieved Hall in the sixth and earned the win to improve his record to a perfect 4-0. He lowered his ERA to 0.76 on the season with four scoreless innings as he surrendered only one hit, while walking two with one strikeout.

A win on Wednesday night would guarantee the 'Tees the series victory over the Cardinals. Southpaw Brent Suter (2-2, 3.65) will toe the rubber for Brevard County and he will be opposed by Palm Beach's Scott Gorgen (3-1, 4.01). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.

Brevard County Box Score

Where would this team be without some of the pitching performances they've had this season. Another fine one tonight from the Brooks Hall/Jacob Barnes tandem. Hall allowed just one run, on one hit, in five innings of work. Jacob Barnes tossed the final four scoreless to earn the win. Check out those ERA's. 2.72 for Hall now and Barnes with an incredible 0.76. Ben McMahan went 2 for 3 with a double. Brandon Macias also doubled. Cameron Garfield and Chadwin Stang were each on base twice with a single and a walk. Yadiel Rivera was 1 for 3.

April 26th -

Not saying he's going to be Southern League MVP, but the Stars' Jason Rogers is going to receive consideration. Just sayin' -- the league's best players often get promoted at midseason, and Rogers will likely remain for all of 2013. Miggy Cabrera was promoted to the big leagues after 69 AA games in 2003, which led to Corey Hart's MVP trophy.

Looks like Mr. Rogers may receive more than token consideration...

Rogers, Offense Power Stars to Victory

Alex Cohen, Huntsville Stars

On Tuesday, the Stars offense cranked out 11 runs and 14 hits en route to their fourth win in five games over the Montgomery Biscuits at Joe Davis Stadium.

Overall, Huntsville scored at least one run in seven of their eight innings, starting in the first inning off of Montgomery starting pitcher Victor Mateo. Following a one-out single by shortstop Hector Gomez, an RBI double from right fielder Kentrail Davis made the score 1-0. When Davis advanced to third on the throw home, first baseman Jason Rogers drove him in the next at-bat with an RBI groundout to put the Stars up two.

After the Biscuits tacked on a run in the top of the first against Stars starter Arcenio Leon (W, 1-3), the Stars scored the next three unanswered runs. Second baseman Nick Shaw hit a sacrifice fly in both the second inning and the fourth inning to make the score 4-1. Then, in the fifth inning, a booming solo home run from Davis well over the right-field wall put Huntsville up by four.

However, the Biscuits kept putting themselves in position to make a comeback. After the Biscuits (RBI groundout from outfielder Mikie Mahtook) and Stars (RBI single from Shawn Zarraga) traded runs in the sixth, a sacrifice fly from catcher Mark Thomas and RBI single from shortstop Shawn O’Malley cut the Huntsville lead to two.

In the bottom of the seventh, Rogers started heating up with a solo homer to make the score 7-4. Then, after the Biscuits tacked on a run in the top of the eighth inning, the 24-year-old first basemen put the icing on the cake for his night. With Zarraga and Davis aboard, Rogers launched his second homer of the game off of Biscuits reliever Braulio Lara to put the game out of reach.

For Rogers, the multi-homer game was his second of the season. In addition to that, his five RBI’s on the game ties his season high.

Aside from Rogers on offense, Huntsville was paced by catcher Robinzon Diaz, who went 3-for-4 with three doubles. Outfielder Brock Kjeldgaard and Davis also each chipped in with two hits apiece.

The 11-7 victory concluded the best home stretch for the Stars this season, as they took four out of five games against the Biscuits at Joe Davis Stadium. Overall, the Stars have won seven of ten and nine out of their last 14 games.

Following an off-day on Wednesday, the Stars will hit the road for ten games, opening up a five-game against the Tennessee Smokies at Smokies Park on Thursday. The Stars will send RHP Jimmy Nelson (5-2, 3.06 ERA) to the bump to face off against Smokies RHP Kyle Hendricks (3-2, 2.86 ERA).

Sounds Edged By Rainiers, 8-7

Nashville Homers Four Times In Loss; Parker With Two

Nashville Sounds

TACOMA, Wash. - Despite 15 hits and four home runs Tuesday night at Cheney Stadium, the Nashville Sounds fell 8-7 to the Tacoma Rainiers.

The Sounds tied the game in the ninth inning after loading the bases with no outs. Outfielder Khris Davis, 3-for-5, drove a base hit up the middle (audio) to score Josh Prince, who reached base on balls. An intentional walk to catcher Blake Lalli loaded the bases again, but Nashville did not plate another.

Instead, Tacoma finished the game in the home half of the inning with two hits off Sounds reliever Kyle Heckathorn (1-1), who entered the game on a stretch of 11 consecutive scoreless frames. Designated hitter Stefen Romero sent the game-winning hit to the base of the left-field wall to score Alex Liddi from second. Heckathorn was charged with the loss.

From the start, the Sounds jumped out to a quick lead against Rainiers starting pitcher Hector Noesi with home runs from Caleb Gindl and Stephen Parker.

Gindl lifted a two-run shot off the top of the wall in right-field to score Scooter Gennett for the 2-0 start (audio). Gennett, 3-for-4, slipped a single through the infield prior to Gindl's fifth home run of the season. The Sounds added another run in the first on Sean Halton's sac-fly (audio).

Parker attacked Noesi in the second inning with a leadoff home run to right field (audio). The solo shot made it 4-0, but the Rainiers quickly answered the Sounds with a five-spot in the bottom of the inning off of Sounds starter Johnny Hellweg.

After working a 1-2-3 first inning, Hellweg let the first six batters of the second to reach base on four hits and two hit by pitches. Run-scoring doubles from Mike Zunino and Abraham Almonte tied the game before their first out. Nick Franklin gave the Rainiers their first lead of the game with a single into left-center field.

Hellweg only allowed one hit to the Rainiers outside of the second inning, and left with the lead, in line for his second consecutive victory if not for Tacoma's rallies. He allowed the Rainiers five runs on six hits through five innings, walking two with one strikeout.

The Sounds regained the lead with another pair of homers in the fourth inning. Parker sent the first to right field to tie the game at five runs apiece and becomes the third Sounds hitter this season to record multiple homers in a single game. He joins Hunter Morris and Khris Davis.

Parker's second homer (audio) was followed later in the inning by a solo shot from Prince (audio) for the go-ahead run. The blast, Prince's first of the year, extends his season-long hit streak to six games.

The four homers from Sounds hitters match a season-high for the club and give the team a season-best six consecutive games with at least one dinger.

Tacoma's Nick Franklin helped the Rainiers tie the game in the seventh inning by moving around the horn on a walk, stolen base and a fly ball, before scoring on a wild pitch by reliever Donovan Hand. The home team plated the go-ahead run in the eight on Almonte's drag bunt single towards first base.

Reliever Bobby LaFromboise (3-0) netted the win for Tacoma, with his two bases-loaded outs against Hunter Morris and Dayton Buller in the ninth.

The Sounds play game three against Tacoma on Wednesday night at 9:05 p.m. RHP Tyler Thornburg (0-5, 6.80) looks to bounce back from his rough start earlier in the road trip for Nashville. The Rainiers will send RHP Andrew Carraway (4-1, 3.19) to the hill. Baseball returns to Greer Stadium on Friday, May 24, as the Sounds host the Albuquerque Isotopes (AAA-Dodgers) to a four-game set.

Nashville Box Score[/b]

15 hits, four walks, four home runs, seven runs a nice offensive showing despite a 2-for-11 night with RISP; Johnny Hellweg K'd only one and put four on via two BB's and the key two HBP's you'll see in the 2nd inning log...
