VIERA, Fla. - A quintet of errors committed by the St. Lucie Mets led to a pair of unearned runs as the Brevard County Manatees held on for a 4-3 win on Wednesday night at Space Coast Stadium.

Nick Ramirez singled and advanced to second on a throwing error to lead off the second inning before Ben McMahan also reached on a base hit when he blooped one in between Travis Taijeron, T.J. Rivera and Aderlin Rodriguez behind first base. A single off the bat of Cody Hawn loaded the bases and a Lance Roenicke put up a sacrifice fly to score Ramirez for the first run of the game.

St. Lucie responded with a run in the next half inning to tie the game with a leadoff infield single, followed by a walk and then a single up the middle for Rivera.

Brevard County (20-18) put two across in the fourth, including the first of the two unearned runs. McMahan notched his second of three hits and stole second base, which set him up to score on a double from Yadiel Rivera to the left field wall. Rivera then scored from second when Taijeron dropped a Lance Roenicke pop up in right field to make it a 3-1 game.

In the fifth, Chadwin Stang's leadoff double nearly went to waste until T.J. Rivera booted a grounder to second that allowed Cameron Garfield to reach and Stang to score as he had been running on contact.

The Mets (23-14) tightened it up again by plating a run in the sixth. Matt Reynolds reached on the lone Manatees' error of the evening by Brandon Macias and then came around to score on a double in the gap by Rodriguez to cut Brevard's lead to 4-2.

In seven innings of work, 'Tees starter David Goforth (3-4, 3.05) yielded just four hits and three walks that allowed two runs - one earned - to go along with a career-high eight strikeouts. In his last two starts, Goforth has allowed just five hits and one earned run in 14 innings of work. He is also now 2-1 with a 1.88 ERA at Space Coast Stadium in 2013.

St. Lucie threatened to at least tie the game, if not take the lead, against Seth Harvey in the ninth inning. Each of the first two batters, Rodriguez and Taijeron, reached on singles and were bunted over by Charley Thurber. Rodriguez then scored on a groundout, but the tying run would be left on third base as Harvey struck out Gilbert Gomez to earn his league-leading tenth save of the year.

The four-game set will conclude on Thursday at Space Coast Stadium as the Manatees look to earn their first series win against an FSL South division opponent, having split against Bradenton and Charlotte. First pitch is at 6:35 p.m.

Brevard County Box Score

Lance Roenicke was 1 for 2 with a sac fly. The top 3 batters in the BC lineup were a combined 0 for 11.

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Quad Cities River Bandits used a pair of four run innings to push their way past the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Wednesday night with a 9-4 win at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Teoscar Hernandez led the way for the Bandits with four hits, three runs, and an RBI.

Quad Cities (22-16) scored first. Hernandez singled to lead off the game. Miles Hamblin doubled to right with one out to drive in Hernandez for a 1-0 advantage.

The Timber Rattlers (18-18) rallied with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. They loaded the bases with no outs on a pair of walks and an error. Alfredo Rodriguez, Brent Dean, and Orlando Arcia delivered consecutive RBI singles to put the Rattlers up 3-1. Tyrone Taylor grounded into a force out at second base and that got another run home for a 4-1 lead.

But, Quad Cities answered with a pair of four run innings to take a 9-4 lead.

Their first four-spot was in the top of the fifth inning. Rattlers starter Leonard Lorenzo gave up a walk and a single to the first two batters of the inning. Hernandez singled in the first run and chased Lorenzo from the game.

Carlos Correa greeted Taylor Mangum to the game with an RBI single. Miles Hamblin followed with another RBI single to tie the game and put runners on the corners with no outs. Mangum got Jesse Wierzbicki to ground into a 6-3 double play, but the run from third scored to put Quad Cities up 5-4.

The River Bandits pulled away with four more runs in the top of the sixth inning against Damien Magnifico. Brian Balsik was at first with one out. He stole second on a pitch that went to the backstop. Blasik took off for third and drew a throw that wound up in left field to allow him to score.

Roberto Peña would double and take third on a grounder for the second out of the inning. But, a wild pitch by Magnifico let Peña score. Then, Hernandez singled. An error on the play let him take second. Correa doubled, his third hit of the night, to drive in Hernandez for an 8-4 lead. Wierzbicki would single later in the inning to drive in Correa for the final run of the game.

Quad Cities outhit the Timber Rattlers 14-9 and drew ten walks against Wisconsin pitching.

Chris goes old school with tonight's post game quote, a most unexpected source if I may...

Rearview Mirror – Postgame post for May 15, 2013

Wisconsin Boxscore

This was a forgettable pitching performance, nothing more really needs to said on that front, let's just move on.

Clint Coulter was the beneficiary of another night off but Brent Dean struggled in his place committing an error and 2 passed balls. The T-Rats had 3 errors in total tonight which made me curious where they ranked in the league defensively. Coming into today's action they were tied with 2 other teams for 6th worst having committed 46 errors in 35 games. Lake County is the current bottom dweller with 63 errors in 36 games. However the Rattler catching trio has committed the most passed balls with 17. Lansing and Dayton are right there with 16 and 15 respectively. When you add it all together and adjust for number of games... well it's really late and I'm extremely tired so my math might be shoddy but I'm pretty sure the young T-Rats are bottom 3.

Wisconsin Recap

I was following the game via twitter from up north and this made me happy.

The Rattler game from MiLB.com's perspective, unfortunately Correa is going to get a lot of press when he does well and as Chris noted in the blog recap he's tuning up WI pitching so far this season.

Schlosser, M-Braves Silence Stars

By Alex Cohen / Huntsville Stars

Looking for their first series win in over a month, the Huntsville Stars fell short in game four of a five-game series against the Mississippi Braves, losing by a score of 5-1 at Trustmark Park on Wednesday night.

For the second start in a row, M-Braves starting pitcher Gus Schlosser stifled the Stars bats. Two weeks after giving up one run on four hits over six innings at Joe Davis Stadium to earn a win, the 24-year-old posted the same exact line on Wednesday night to improve to 5-1 on the season. The Sarasota, Florida native has now won his last four consecutive starts.

The M-Braves gave Schlosser all the run support he needed in the second inning, scoring two unearned runs off of Stars starting pitcher Andy Moye. With a runner on first and two outs, Stars shortstop Ozzie Chavez collided with left fielder Kentrail Davis on a pop-up from Mississippi outfielder Dan Brewer. Instead, the ball was dropped, and outfielder Jose Martinez scored from first to make the score 1-0. Two batters later, Schlosser helped out his own cause with an RBI single to score Brewer and put Mississippi up by two.

In the fourth inning, a solo homer from Martinez and a two-run double from M-Braves second baseman Phil Gosselin made the score 4-0 and effectively ended the outing for Moye. The 25-year-old righty fell to 1-5 on the year after giving up five runs (one earned) on three hits in four innings. Moye has now lost his last four starts.

On offense, the Stars scored their only run in the fifth inning. The frame started when a double from outfielder Rene Tosoni and a single from third baseman Mike Walker put runners on the corners with one out. One batter later, an RBI groundout from catcher Robinzon Diaz scored Tosoni to put the Huntsville on the board.

Diaz also added a RBI single in the ninth inning off of M-Braves lefty Ian Thomas to give the Stars their only other run of the game.

The M-Braves scored their last insurance run in the seventh inning as third baseman Edward Salcedo hit a solo homer off of Huntsville reliever Brian Garman. The solo homers from Martinez and Salcedo for Mississippi gave the M-Braves their first multi-homer game at home as a team since July 15th, 2012.

With the Stars and M-Braves each having two wins apiece in this series, Huntsville will play their third straight series-deciding game to end a five-game set on Thursday.

The Stars will look to take the series by sending RHP Arcenio Leon (0-3, 7.71 ERA) to the bump. He will face off against M-Braves RHP Aaron Northcraft (1-2, 4.11 ERA). First pitch is at 7:00 PM.
