Remember when the Brewers used their final 2010 draft pick to briefly hold the rights to LSU football star Chad Jones? Scroll to the bottom of this Jim Callis link for an update. It'd be fun to see him sign with the Crew.

On that note, not sure what you're up to, D'Vontrey Richardson (reminder from June 2012), but hope all is well.

No divisional mentions today, but the Alex Colome headline got me thinking about Durham's rotation. I don't remember any team having a AAA rotation full of legitimate pitching prospects with no reason to call any up. Odorizzi, Montgomery (just off the DL), Colome, Archer, and Torres... cripes.

Sounds smoked 9-0 in front of Doug Melvin today.

De La Cruz, Jakubauskas, Kroenke, Lowe, Webb, Buller, Davis, Statia, Garner, Hoey -- nearly all all the veterans Melvin either brought back or brought in have had utterly miserable seasons thus far.

Now 10-27, very ugly in a league that doesn't reset mid-season standings.

Manatees and Sounds combine for 13-0 clunkers today.

We'll post just game summaries for now to help out the night crew.

Sounds Swept By Sacramento

Nashville’s Francisco Rodriguez Strikes Out Side In 8th Inning

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Nashville Sounds connected for only four hits in Tuesday morning’s 9-0 loss at Greer Stadium to the visiting Sacramento River Cats, marking the second time this season the Sounds have been swept in a four-game series by their opponent.

The loss marks Nashville’s fifth in a row and the team’s fourth shutout loss of the season. The Sounds were outscored by Sacramento, 28-11, in the series.

One bright spot for the Sounds came in the eighth inning, when veteran pitcher Francisco Rodriguez struck out the side on 20 pitches. He walked nine-hole hitter Conner Crumbliss to start the inning, but retired the top of the lineup in order. All three strikeouts came on off-speed pitches.

Both Kyle Heckathorn and Mike Olmsted also pitched one scoreless frame for Nashville, unfortunately for the Sounds, Sacramento already held a 7-0 lead.

The River Cats scratched their first four runs in the opening inning off the Sounds right-handed starter Frankie De La Cruz (1-5). The Nashville hurler had difficulty finding control of his pitches, starting the game by plunking Jermile Weeks.

The next three batters touched De La Cruz for singles and a pair of runs. He delivered his second hit by pitch to Sacramento’s designated hitter Grant Green to load the bases. Two RBI-groundouts and a walk to Andy Parrino transpired before De La Cruz got the ninth batter of the inning to pop up for the final out.

De La Cruz pitched a scoreless second, third and fourth innings, and was one out away from a scoreless fifth, but Jeremy Barfield crushed a line-drive home run to left field that put the R-Cats up 7-0. The Sounds pitcher took the loss, his fifth, allowing seven runs on four hits and five walks over five innings. He threw 99 pitches on the day, fanning two batters, before Nashville activated the ‘pen.

In the ninth, reliever Rob Wooten let in Sacramento’s final two runs, ending his scoreless streak at 17.2 innings. It is only the second time in 14 appearances Wooten has surrendered a run.

Sounds batters Hainley Statia, Anderson De La Rosa, Sean Halton and Scooter Gennett accounted for the Sounds four hits. De La Rosa picked up the only extra-base knock with his double to the left-field corner in the fifth inning. The hit gives Nashville’s backstop seven extra-base hits in his last seven games.

After a scheduled off day Wednesday, the Sounds head west for series against the Salt Lake Bees (AAA-Angels) and the Tacoma Rainiers (AAA-Mariners). Starting for Nashville on Thursday will be RHP Johnny Hellweg (1-4, 4.41) against the Bees’ RHP Kip Wells (1-2, 9.00). Baseball returns to Greer Stadium on Friday, May 24, as the Sounds host the Albuquerque Isotopes (AAA-Dodgers) to a four-game set.

Outta here: Brevard official says Washington Nationals to leave Viera

(Brevard County Commission Chairman Andy) Anderson said Brevard County now will have to decide what to do with Space Coast Stadium, which also is used by the Brevard County Manatees, the Milwaukee Brewers Class A minor league team.

Anderson said the options include finding another major league team to replace the Nationals, trying to get a second minor league team to play there, using the stadium complex for amateur baseball tournaments, or scheduling concerts and other special events there.

Currently the Brewers and Manatees have committed to their relationship through 2014.

Brevard blanked in one-hitter at St. Lucie

By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Strong pitching performances from St. Lucie's Matt Bowman and T.J. Chism kept the Brevard County Manatees off the basepaths and off the board, as they combined to hold the 'Tees to just one hit and one walk in a 4-0 loss to the Mets on Tuesday afternoon at Tradition Field.

St. Lucie jumped on the 'Tees (19-18) early as each of the first three batters in the bottom of the first inning reached on hits for the Mets (23-13). T.J. Rivera's leadoff single was followed by a Matt Reynolds double, which was then followed by a two-run single from Brandon Hicks.

Chadwin Stang recorded the only hit for the Manatees (19-18) in the bottom of the third.

Again in the third, the top half of St. Lucie's order did the damage with Rivera reaching on an error. Hicks then doubled to set up the same situation that St. Lucie had in the first, with Dustin Lawley driving in two on a double to make it 4-0.

Manatees' starter Drew Gagnon (3-3, 5.45) was charged with all four runs - three of them earned - as he scattered six hits in four innings. He did not walk a batter and recorded six strikeouts. Gagnon has struck out at least six hitters in his last three starts and has fanned at least five in each of his last six outings.

Brevard County's bullpen kept the Manatees in the game the rest of the way as Chad Pierce and Kevin Shackelford combined to throw four scoreless innings. Pierce threw three of those frames and allowed one hit, while striking out four. Shackelford was perfect in the eighth inning.

Bowman earned the victory for the Mets, by tossing seven shutout frames, surrendering both the hit and the walk with nine strikeouts. Chism finished the contest with two perfect innings, sitting three batters down on strikes.

The shutout loss was the third of the season for Brevard County and the first for the Manatees since April 7 against Daytona. St. Lucie leads the Florida State League with six shutouts.

Both teams return to Space Coast Stadium for a 6:35 PM (5:35 Central) first pitch on Wednesday. David Goforth (2-4, 3.41) and lefty Alex Panteliodis (0-0, 2.70) will represent the Manatees and Mets on the mound, respectively.
