With the first really nice spring evening I'm going to go watch some baseball. I'll catch up on the prospect updates and WI when I get home late tonight or early tomorrow morning, there's no need to cover WI if it's not done tonight, I'll get it.

Audio from Music City — “Comments from Caleb (Gindl)”

Tonight’s interview is with Sounds outfielder Caleb Gindl, who went 2-for-3 with three RBIs last night in the Sounds’ 5-2 win over Memphis. Gindl discusses his game last night, his start to the season, working with new hitting coach Bob Skube, his thoughts about trying to make mechanical adjustments to his swing during games and his days as a pitcher in high school when he could throw 95 miles per hour.

nice to see two underrated Stars off to good starts. I've enjoyed following Kentrail Davis and Nick Shaw's strong OBP's over the years. Both tend to have OBPs far above their average, and this year are hitting enough to have OBP's over .400 so far.

Final: Dunedin 3 Brevard County 4

Brevard holds off Dunedin for 4-3 win

Gagnon earns first victory of 2013 as Jays rally falls short

By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees

VIERA, Fla. - For the second straight night, a three-run sixth inning was just enough offense for the Brevard County Manatees as they topped the first place Dunedin Blue Jays, 4-3 on Friday night at Space Coast Stadium.

Brevard County (12-9) jumped on Dunedin (14-7) starting pitcher Aaron Sanchez early with a run in the first inning - one that proved to be crucial to the win - as Nick Ramirez drove in Chadwin Stang with a one-out single.

Once Sanchez settled down, he allowed just one base runner between the second inning and the fifth inning. His leadoff walk to Nick Ramirez in the sixth though brought an end his evening.

Cameron Garfield greeted reliever Tyler Ybarra with a first-pitch triple that scored Ramirez, marking the second three-bagger of the game for the Manatees after Yadiel Rivera went tripled in the fourth.

Back-to-back walks to Brandon Macias, who was put on intentionally, and Rivera loaded the bases for Lance Roenicke. Roenicke brought one run in with a sacrifice fly and allowed Macias to move to third. Macias then scored what would be the eventual game winning run on a passed ball.

With the 'Tees leading 4-0, Tommy Toledo entered the game in the eighth inning with runners on first and second with just one out and had no trouble getting out of the frame. However, he would have more trouble in the ninth when he issued a walk and consecutive singles to load the bases.

Seth Harvey came on and allowed a quick two-run single to Nick Baligod to make it a 4-2 game. Jon Berti followed with another RBI single and then a fly out to right enabled Baligod, who represented the tying run, to advance to third. Harvey would leave him stranded at third as he forced Andy Burns to fly out to center to end the game. For Harvey, it was his second save in as many nights and fifth of the season.

Drew Gagnon (1-2, 7.36) turned in his best performance of the season as he went 5.1 scoreless frames for his first victory of 2013. He allowed only two hits and two walks with five strikeouts.

Brevard County will go for the three-game sweep of the first place Blue Jays on Saturday night at Space Coast Stadium, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m.

The Manatees will send Brooks Hall (2-1, 2.01) to the hill, while Dunedin will counter with 2011 American League All-Star Ricky Romero. The Blue Jays southpaw will be making his first start of the season since being optioned to the minors by Toronto following the end of spring training.

Brevard County Box Score

Very good pitching performance for the first eight innings tonight. Almost gave it all back in the ninth but Seth Harvey was able to finish it for his fifth save. Drew Gagnon with his best start of the season, went 5.1 and gave up just two hits while striking out five. Chad Pierce tossed two scoreless.

Nick Ramirez had another good night at the plate, going 2-3 with a walk. That's multi-hit games in four of his last five. Cameron Garfield also had a two hit night, going 2-4 with a triple. Yadiel Rivera also tripled for the Manatees. Chadwin Stang and John Dishon had the other BC base hits.

Sounds Win 2-1 On Balk-Off

Nashville's Halton Goes 3-for-4; Three Doubles

Nashville Sounds

Sean Halton (Mike Strasinger / Nashville Sounds)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Tied 1-1 with two outs in the ninth inning, the Nashville Sounds benefitted from a balk charged to Memphis reliever Jorge Rondon to score outfielder Sean Halton from third for the 2-1 win over the visiting Redbirds.

[sean] Halton cracked his third double of the contest with one out in the final frame and moved to third on Caleb Gindl's groundout. In the following at-bat, home plate umpire Kellen Levy ruled that Rondon did not come to a final stop during his delivery, constituting an advance on the base paths to give Nashville the win. Rondon was charged with the loss, his first.

Gindl helped knot the game earlier in the game 1-1 in the fourth inning on a broken-bat single into shallow left field. The hit scored Hunter Morris from third and almost another, but the runner on second, Sean Halton, was beat to the plate on a throw from Jamie Romak.

The Redbirds got on the board early, when lead-off hitter Adron Chambers scored from first on a throwing error by starting pitcher Tyler Thornburg, who hurried a throw to first on Kolten Wong's sacrifice bunt. Chambers single to left field to start the game.

After the unearned run in the first, Thornburg settled in to pitch four scoreless frames, finishing with six strikeouts, two walks and five hits. The 24-year-old tossed a season-high 92 pitches in the no decision, with 62 going for strikes.

Pitching out of the 'pen, Donovan Hand tossed two scoreless frames with three strikeouts, including one strikeout double play to close the sixth and another against Brock Peterson with a runner on third to end the seventh. The outing was Hand's fifth scoreless appearance of the season.

Michael Olmsted and Kyle Heckathorn (1-0) combined to pitch the final two scoreless innings for Nashville; Heckathorn netting the win.

Second baseman Scooter Gennett slapped a base hit through the gap at second to extend his hit streak to a Sounds best eight games, tying Anderson De La Rosa's recent tear. The Florida-native entered the contest with the Pacific Coast League's third-best batting average of .417; now sits at .406. Gindl also kept his streak alive at five games with his RBI-single in the fourth.

The win, paired with Thursday's victory in the series opener, is the first time the Sounds have recorded back-to-back wins this season, improving to 7-12 on the year.

The Nashville Sounds look to win their first series on Saturday night in Greer Stadium's 6:35 p.m. start. Getting the nod for Nashville will be RHP Mike Fiers (0-0 0.00) against the Redbirds lefty John Gast (2-0, 0.00).

Early Whitecaps runs crash in on Timber Rattlers

Stewart's 3-run homer paves the way to a 5-1 West Michigan win

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

GRAND CHUTE, WI - The West Michigan Whitecaps beat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 5-1 on Friday night at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Jake Stewart hit a three-run home run in the first inning for the Whitecaps. Hudson Randall and a pair of West Michigan relievers made those early runs hold up to end Wisconsin's modest two-game winning streak.

Wisconsin starting pitcher Tyler Wagner retired the first two West Michigan batters of the game on ground outs. But, the next two batters reached on seeing-eye singles. Then, Stewart lined a home run to the West Michigan bullpen in left-center for a 3-0 lead. Those were the only runs that Wagner would give up on the evening. He pitched six innings allowed a total of five hits.

Randall was a puzzle the Timber Rattlers (7-10) could not solve until late in the game. Randall was scoreless through 6-2/3 innings and had allowed just three hits. Then, Clint Coulter tripled to the base of the wall in right-center. Adam Giacalone followed with an RBI single to get Wisconsin on the scoreboard. West Michigan reliever Brennan Smith came on to get the final out of the seventh to protect the 3-1 lead.

West Michigan (9-10) added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the ninth. Mike Strong struck out Stewart to start the inning, but a wild pitch on strike three let Stewart reach first. Zach Kirksey followed with a triple to drive in Stewart. A two-out single by Austin Schotts drove in Kirksey for the final run of the game.

Wisconsin did put a pair of runners on base with walks in the bottom of the ninth against Jose Valdez, but the tying run never got to the plate for the Timber Rattlers.

Giacalone led the Timber Rattlers offense with a pair of hits and the only RBI in the game.

The final game of the three-game series is Saturday afternoon. Damien Magnifico (2-0, 2.57) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. West Michigan has Jordan John (0-2, 6.00) as their starter. Game time is 1:05pm.

He didn't strike anyone out and allowed a solo home run. Pena threw 89 pitches with only 55 for strikes. The Braves then tied the game against R.J. Seidel. Rain Delay Dooms Stars Against M-Braves

By Alex Cohen / Huntsville Stars

Headlined by a hour-plus rain delay, the Huntsville Stars fell to the Mississippi Braves by a final score of 8-4 at Joe Davis Stadium on Friday night.

Prior to Mother Nature making her presence felt, the game featured three ties and two lead changes.

Once the Stars and M-Braves traded a run in the first inning, Mississippi was able to regain their early lead in the fourth inning with one pitch from Stars starting pitcher Ariel Pena. To leadoff the inning, catcher Braeden Schlehuber crushed an opposite-field homer over the LF wall to make the score 2-1.

The score remaining like that until the bottom of the fifth, where the Stars mounted a comeback and gained their first and only lead of the game. To begin the inning, back-to-back singles from third basemen Mike Walker and center fielder Rene Tosoni helped chase M-Braves starter J.R Graham from the game.

Upon reliever Ian Thomas entering the game for Graham, the lefty was greeted to the game with a RBI single from shortstop Hector Gomez that tied the score up a two apiece. Later in the inning, a two-run single from second basemen Nick Shaw off of Thomas made the score 4-2.

Unfortunately for the Stars, that lead was short-lived.

In the seventh inning, a leadoff triple from M-Braves left fielder Dan Brewer in the seventh inning off of R.J Seidel sparked the beginning of a rally. Following a walk issued to right fielder Jose Martinez, a RBI groundout from first basemen Christian Marrero scored Brewer to cut the Stars lead to one. One batter later, a RBI double from shortstop Jaime Pedroza tied up the game.

Then, to begin the eigith inning, reliever Greg Holle (L, 0-1) issued back-to-back singles to Schlehuber and pinch-hitter Barrett Kleinknecht and a walk to Brewer before the rains came.

Immediately after a 70-minute delay, Holle stayed in the game and was welcomed by a two-run single by Martinez and a two-run double by Marrero to put the M-Braves on top for good.

On offense, the Stars were paced by Gomez, Walker and right fielder Kentrail Davis with two hits apiece. For Davis, the multi-hit game was his third in his last four contests.

The Stars and M-Braves will play game three of their five-game series at Joe Davis Stadium on Saturday. Huntsville will send RHP Taylor Jungmann (1-3, 5.62 ERA) to the bump to square off against Mississippi LHP Alex Wood (0-1, 0.82 ERA). Each pitcher is ranked as top-10 prospect in their own respective organizations. First pitch is at 6:43 PM.

It's a balk off! It's a balk off.
