Manatees catcher Cameron Garfield hit two home runs, including a two-run shot to tie the game in the eighth inning, as Brevard County defeated the Lakeland Flying Tigers 6-5 in 14 innings on Tuesday night at Space Coast Stadium in Viera.

VIERA, Fla. - A thrilling extra-inning affair came to a strange ending on Tuesday night at Space Coast Stadium as the Brevard County Manatees outlasted the Lakeland Flying Tigers in 14 innings for a 6-5 victory.

Heads-up base running and a powerless battery brought pinch runner Adrian Williams around from first to third on two passed balls. Lakeland catcher Jeff Ferrell then lost control of an intentional ball four to Cody Hawn that allowed Williams to jog home safely.

Hawn got the scoring starting for the Manatees (7-5) with a solo homer leading off the second, but the see-saw battle commenced with a pair of unearned runs on the first of a season-high four errors committed by Brevard County on the night in the top of the third.

Brandon Loy took three bases out of the box on a ball that blew out over Dionis Hinojosa's head to the right field wall that let Chad Wright score from first. A similar play happened in center field to open the eighth, as Chadwin Stang couldn't quite get to a ball off of Eugenio Suarez's bat. The Lakeland (4-8) shortstop later scored the third unearned run of the night against Brevard County and extended the Flying Tigers lead to two runs.

The other two Manatee errors were charged to Yadiel Rivera, who entered the game with a clean sheet for the season and had recorded the most assists of any Major or Minor League player.

With the 'Tees trailing 2-1 into the fourth, Garfield walked then later scored on a Brandon Macias sacrifice fly to tie it up.

Lakeland reclaimed the lead, plus an extra run in the top of the sixth, with three straight singles to start off the frame followed by a wild pitch and the first of Rivera's miscues.

Garfield answered back and cut the deficit to 4-3 as he led off the bottom half of the sixth with a solo home run. After the unearned run in the top of the eighth, Garfield tied it up at 5-5 with his second homer of the game, a two¬-run blast.

Manatees' starting pitcher Brooks Hall (1-1, 1.64) was pulled after 5.1 innings, over which he scattered seven hits and was charged with four total runs. Only two of those were earned and he struck out three batters with no walks.

The Flying Tigers again used multiple relievers for multiple innings after the bullpen was asked to pitch 7.2 innings on Monday night.

Brevard County also used multiple relievers for more than a single inning, sending Tyler Cravy out for two innings in which he allowed an unearned run. Lefty Stephen Peterson then threw 3.2 frames of two-hit ball and Tommy Toledo would follow him for a pair of innings with a pair of walks. Seth Harvey earned the win after yielding a hit and a walk with one strikeout in one inning.

The two squads will meet again on Wednesday at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland to close out the three-game series. David Goforth (0-1, 3.60) will toe the rubber for the Manatees, while the Flying Tigers will send Wilsen Palacios (0-1, 6.00) to the hill.

Brevard County will stay on the road following Wednesday game as they will travel to both Clearwater and Tampa for three-game sets with the Threshers and the Yankees respectively.
