BA top 25 college chat/draft information

For those of you highly interested in the draft and college baseball. Chat starts at 13:30 Central.

College Top 25 Chat With Aaron Fitt

BA has many weekly features on college players and teams such as:

College Draft Prospects Stat Roundup: Week 9

Of course they also have a draft section which covers all draft prospects:

Draft Coverage

I spend the majority of my time on prospects/MLB and not so much on the draft but for this should be a good start for those looking to expand their horizons if they are new to the baseball draft.

Well, yes and no. There's a lot more that goes into it than just the velocity, such as workload (potential abuse like the Japanese kid who threw nearly 800 pitches in a 10 day span this spring), mechanics, and so on.

The Brewers haven't exactly hit any home runs thus far drafting safer "workhorse" college pitching in the first round either.

I thought the main point of the article was interesting though, looking more for projection than actual velocity at that age.

Unfortunately the Brewers just haven't done well drafting and developing pitching for over 30 years and without a first rounder this year I would expect them to take a shot at least 1 high upside HS pitcher in rounds 2-5. The Brewers don't have enough pitching, especially LHP, to play it safe. Honestly, I think the high floor safe strategy is poor anyway as you need upside to get star players and in that sense I still favor a well rounded system from a ceiling and floor standpoint.

edit. A couple of HS LHP in that 50-70 range, I like me a projectable lefty. Garrett Williams looks to be someone I'd be interested in.

Hey, there's Buck Farmer coming in at #98. He's having a nice season - too bad the Brewers couldn't sign him last year.

Yeah, I've liked what I've read on that Garrett Williams too. I've also liked what I've read on Carlos Salazar (HS RHP), who is a little bit lower on that list.
