Braun-cocky or confident?

I personally feel that Braun's cockiness and/or confidence will be a welcomed addition to this team of young, talented, and relatively unemotional/boring group.

Come on, let's face it. If you listen to a Prince audio clip after the game, he gives out cliche answers in between the "you know" every other word. Rickie Weeks is pretty quiet too and doesn't seem to ever say a word on the field. JJ is another of the solid players who just doesn't seem to have an edge to him emotional-wise.

Braun on the other hand...he exudes that cockiness and personality out on the field. He's just got that aura about him that you either have or don't have.

while i'm not a fan of 'bat flipping' or 'staring at HR ball', I can't say that braun did either of those things. Look at the replays of anyone getting any kind of hit... the bats get tossed... Now, if he had hit the HR, stood in the batters box and just say, took 10 steps towards first just staring at the ball, sure people would have a right to be upset. That said, JJ Hardy and Corey Hart have some of the quickest around the bases in the major leagues. Is that one of the five tools?

I think when Weeks comes back healthy, there'll be a nice mix of quiet confidence and outward confidence in the young guys on the team.

Prince, Braun and Hall will let you know when they've gotten the better of you with a stare-down and a bat flip here and there, and I think Prince and Hall have earned it, while Braun's getting there. Hardy and Hart are quieter about it, and they'll just put their heads down and run. Weeks, well, I'm not sure about Weeks. I haven't seen quite as much of him lately since he's been hurt.

Anyway, I think Braun is a little cocky, but he's not yet showing people up. I think it's only a matter of time before he does, though. Kid's got talent.

Edit: He knows it, too. At jsonline.com's brewers section, there's an article on Braun "settling in" with the big club, and he talks about how his last two weeks couldn't have been much worse at the plate. He's disappointed in his K totals.

If he thinks he's been bad, I want to see him when he's good.

worth bringing forward. from jsonline today:

The after-swing comportment of Braun upon watching his monster blast off Matt Albers did prompt a lecture from Yost, who's not big on preening at the plate. Asked if Braun sometimes loses himself in such moments, Yost said, "Yeah, but we quickly bring him back."

I think you should showboat all you want. It's a free country. I also think the pitcher should then go after Fielder's head. Hey, it's a free country, and god knows Braun doesn't need the Prince behind him because he's the greatest! (This is a non-blue comment)

He wasn't preening last night. He turned around and looked at the Brewer dougout or perhaps Prince as if to say "How'd you like that one?" No doubt there's some competition between the boys. He should learn to wait until he's back in the dougout or he runs the risk of appearing to be preening.

Walking a third of the way up the 1st baseline is preening whether you are looking at the ball or your own dugout. Ask Lance Berkman.
"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

No, I don't want to see guys shouting and acting like idiots on the field, but I don't think a two second stare at a long ball should be enough to offend a pitcher making hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars a year.

As Good as Braun is, he is still going to be gotten out almost 2/3rds of the time. If pitchers started to pump their fists and stare into dugouts everytime they got a player out, the game would be unbearable to watch.

Braun needs to work on his fielding before he gets really cocky.
