Look for Nashville and Wisconsin media notes at the links just prior to their game times.

Once we're aware of the new online location for Huntsville's Media Notes this season, we'll let you know.

New this season: Brevard County has media notes; as of now, it's a unique link each day (we'll post when available), we've asked for a consistent posted link like Nashville uses, we'll see...

From the article above that MH linked, It's a tad depressing all of the scouting talent we lost but it was a very good read.

Yeah, there’s quite a few scouting directors now who worked under Jack.

Yeah, it’s quite a tree. Jack had myself, he had Bruce Seid (Brewers scouting director), he had Bobby Heck (former Astros scouting director), Tommy Allison (former Diamondbacks scouting director), Ric Wilson (Angels scouting director). Ray Montgomery (Diamondbacks scouting director) came after I left, but Tom McNamara (Mariners scouting director) and I worked together. It was kind of a scouting director mini school, I guess.

What is it about Jack that has all those guys linked to him?

I think, for one, he had the ability of assembling a very good staff. And I can say this: When you work for Jack, there were no stones unturned. He was an excellent evaluator, and he was an excellent person to pay attention to details. You dotted your “I’s” and crossed your “T’s,” and the entire staff worked that way, so it was really good training. He also brought in Larry Doughty, a man with general manager experience, a scouting director himself, an excellent teacher of scouts, so it really was a nice blend of people he had there.

This is interest piece, there's some good information on how/why the Rockie's young pitchers are going deep into games even though they are on strict pitch counts like every other organization.

Odd play in the Stars game. Kentrail Davis on 2nd with a double. Tosoni singles up the middle but it hits the umpire. Davis has to stay at 2nd. 2 hitters later there is a single and Davis is thrown out at the plate. If he had been given 3rd on the umpire interference, he would have scored easily. Oh well. Stars down 1-0 early.

Chris just said during the pregame that Lopez was very impressive during instructs last fall... boy do I hope so.

edit. Chris just followed up and said the prospect handbook noted Lopez had back issues last season, his FB was topping out around 95 and he had a kneebuckling curve during instructs. My only question would be if he had a back issue why wouldn't they keep him AZ where the best possible treatment would be?

I thought the umpires were considered part of the field, like a base bag.

Well Jorge walked the first batter, allowed a single to the 2nd, and just now a HR to the 3rd... Peoria up 3-0 after 3 hitters... it can only get better from here for the young man.

edit. Or not, 4th batter just went yard as well... my goodness.

Has the T-Rat game started yet or is Lopez just tossing batting practice to Peoria? Wind def can't be an excuse, wind is 4 mph in from RF. Not the way you wanted to see Lopez start out.

edit: box score was just changed, it originally said he gave up 7er and 4 hrs. Now his final line is 4ip 6h 6er 2bb 3k 3hrs

Well Gibbard just gave up a HR as well, that's 3 HRs for Peoria and 2 for Patrick Wisdom so far today. Wisdom has been atrocious to start the season defensively for the Cards so at least there's that...

edit. Sorry I didn't read J5's post correctly... Lopez gave up 2 HR and 6 ER, the 3rd HR and 7th run are Gibbard's. Gameday is working for WI today so that's up to date.

edit 2. Well GD has 3 HRs against Lopez too, I'll have to check the log, I only remember 2.

edit 3. 3 is correct, I forgot about Mejia's in the 3rd.

I heard Chris mention the Lopez reports from instructs as well. That should weigh much, much more heavily in people's minds than his performance today. He was much better after the first inning despite that 3rd homer he surrendered. Both of his walks were of the 4 pitch variety, but he was hardly laboring through AB's.

I would expect this to be one of worst starts of the year. Better days to come hopefully. Still a ton of talent to like.

Final - Chattanooga 8 Huntsville 0

Chattanooga handed Huntsville their 1st loss of the season defeating the Stars 8-0 in game 1 of the scheduled double header today. Just like in the first 2 games of the series, Chattanooga jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the 1st inning. Unlike the prior games, the Stars bats did not come alive and after a 6 spot in the 4th, Chattanooga cruised to an easy 8-0 win. Ariel Pena, 40 man roster player and the 19th rated prospect in the Brewer organization, started and took the loss. Pena lasted only 3 1/3 innings today. He was charged with 5 earned runs on only 3 hits. Control was an issue with 5 walks. La Crosse native R.J. Seidel relieved Pena with the bases loaded in the 4th and after striking out opposing pitcher Andres Santiago, he allowed a 2 run single to Rafael Ynoa and a 3 run homer to Joc Pederson which essentially put the game away.

Huntsville Box Score

Center fielder Rene Tosoni had 2 of the Stars 5 hits today. Kentrail Davis went 1-2 with the lone extra base hit, a double in the 2nd. Davis was also intentionally walked with 2 out and runners on 2nd and 3rd in the 3rd, but Brock Kjeldgaard struck out on 3 pitches to end the inning.

Huntsville Play By Play

As mentioned by WV Brew earlier in the Link Report, a strange play where Rene Tosoni singled off one of the base umpires. The ball was ruled dead and Kentrail Davis had to return to 2nd base. This proved costly when Davis was thrown out at the plate trying to score from 2nd on catcher Robinzon Diaz's single to left.

Huntsville Top of the 2nd

Kentrail Davis doubles (1) on a sharp line drive to right fielder Yasiel Puig.

Brock Kjeldgaard called out on strikes.

Rene Tosoni singles on a ground ball to second baseman Rafael Ynoa.

Mike Walker flies out to left fielder Joc Pederson.

Robinzon Diaz singles on a ground ball to left fielder Joc Pederson. Kentrail Davis out at home on the throw, left fielder Joc Pederson to catcher Gorman Erickson.

Game 2 is scheduled to begin around 4:15 Central Time. Andy Moye is scheduled to make his season debut for the Stars.

The pure fact that his velocity is now reaching 95mph is very encouraging and exciting. So his body and stuff is developing like we hoped when he was merely a very projectable young pitcher. Giving up HR's like Axford should hopefully go down as he develops more and more. Just hope we start to see his stuff turn into results soon.

Peoria powers past Wisconsin

Chiefs crack four homers in 7-2 victory

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

PEORIA, IL - The Peoria Chiefs hit four home runs on Sunday afternoon at Chiefs Stadium on their way to a 7-2 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Pat Wisdom hit two of Peoria's four homers and drove in four runs to earn a split in the season-opening four game series for the Chiefs.

Peoria (2-2) pounced on Rattlers starting pitcher Jorge Lopez for four runs in the first inning. A walk and a single put the first two Peoria runners on base. Wisdom followed with a tape-measure homer to left that put the Chiefs up 3-0. Jacob Wilson was next and he also unloaded for a homer.

The Chiefs added a run in the second on a two-out RBI single by Breyvic Valera and a run in the third on a two-out solo home run by Alex Mejia to go up 6-0.

Wisconsin (2-2) got to Peoria starting pitcher Kyle Helisek in the sixth inning. Mitch Haniger tripled with one out and would score on a wild pitch. Helisek left the game with one out and runners on first and second base. Joe Scanio took over on the mound and struck out the next two batters on a total of six pitches.

Clint Coulter gave the Rattlers their second run with a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning to drive in Orlando Arcia.

Haniger and Michael Reed each had a pair of hits for the Timber Rattlers. Arcia and Tyrone Taylor both had singles to extend their early season hitting streaks to four games each.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers open renovated Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium Monday night. The Rattlers host the Cedar Rapids Kernels in game one of a three game series with a first pitch scheduled for 6:35pm. Right-hander Preston Gainey takes the hill as the starting pitcher for Wisconsin. Lefty David Hurlbut is set to start for Cedar Rapids.

All fans who attend Monday's game will receive a Matt Erickson bobblehead courtesy of Pepsi. The bobblehead depicts the Timber Rattlers manager holding the Midwest League Championship trophy. Milwaukee Brewers mascot Bernie Brewer will also be on hand to help the Rattlers celebrate their home opener.

If you can't make it out to the ballpark, there are plenty of ways to follow the action. Time Warner Cable subscribers will be able to watch the broadcast on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel. The game is also available to subscribers of MiLB.TV.

Fans may also tune in for the radio call on AM1280, WNAM or timberrattlers.com starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:15pm.

Wisconsin Gameday

Wisconsin Boxscore

Orlando Arcia continues to hit the ball hard when he makes contact and play impressive defense, Chris McFarland also seems to be a very capable 2B making a nice play in today's game as well. Through 4 games I'm not sure who's been more impressive, Arcia or Tyrone Taylor, I'm leaning towards Taylor simply because he had only played in 18 professional games coming into the season.

Remember that for TWC subscribers the T-Rats will be broadcast on TWC32 tomorrow though there is a 70% chance of rain.

Wisconsin Recap

The Rattlers had a chance to answer the Peoria 4 run first right away but came up empty.

Parker Berberet lines out softly to third baseman Ildemaro Vargas.

Sounds Fall to Zephyrs, 3-1

Nashville avoids shutout with run in the ninth inning

Nashville Sounds

Scooter Gennett (source: Nashville Sounds)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds connected for only five hits Sunday against the New Orleans Zephyrs, who leveled the opening series with the Sounds at two games apiece by defeating the home team, 3-1.

The Sounds plated their only run in the game's final inning. Sounds left fielder Sean Halton led off in the frame with a double into the left-field corner, advanced to third on a groundout by Stephen Parker and scored on Cole Garner's groundout to third. That was the extent of any Sounds rally.

Sounds second baseman Scooter Gennett extended his early-season hitting streak to four games with a leadoff single in his first at-bat on Sunday. Gennett leads the team with a .533 batting average through four games, and entered the day tied for fifth in the league at .545. He picked up his second hit in the eighth, for his third multi-hit game of 2013.

The Zephyrs got on the board first in the second inning on a two-out single up the middle from Wilson Valdez, scoring left fielder Matt Diaz, who doubled earlier in the frame.

New Orleans tacked on two additional runs in the fourth inning; the first a solo home run off the left-field light pole by shortstop Nick Green, and the next on an infield groundout by pitcher Mitch Talbot, scoring Matt Diaz from third. On the play Sounds shortstop Blake Davis made a great infield dive to get the out and prevent any additional runs.

All three runs were charged to pitcher Zach Kroenke, who was charged with the loss in his Sounds debut. The southpaw allowed seven hits in three innings of work, with three strikeouts and no walks.

Donovan Hand pitched three innings of relief, increasing his innings streak without allowing an earned run to 4.2 in 2013. He entered in the third with two inherited runners from Kroenke, both in scoring position, and allowed only one to score. He finished the day with three strikeouts, no walks, and three hits. He also kept a runner from reaching third in his final frame on a 1-6 put-out.

Also getting work in the Sounds 'pen was Kyle Heckathorn and Jesus Sanchez, who combined to allow only one hit in three scoreless innings.

Mitch Talbot gets the win for New Orleans, going five innings and allowing two hits. Reliever Chris Hatcher notched the save, his first. Offensively, Diaz and Koyie Hill led the team with three hits each.

The Sounds will host the Oklahoma City RedHawks for a four-game series at Greer Stadium, beginning Monday night at 7:05 p.m. Starting on the hill for the Sounds will be RHP Frankie De La Cruz against the RedHawks LHP Rudy Owens.

Nashville Box

Nice to see Morris showing some good plate discipline in this one. He was also the only Sounds player to draw a walk, so it's not like the New Orleans pitchers were just wild. His first walk was earned through an eight-pitch PA, while the other two were of the four-pitch variety. Additionally, his single came on a 2-0 pitch. Morris commanded his strike zone really well today. If he's able to enhance that aspect of his game, suddenly he has a good shot at making a legit impact in the bigs.

Gennett: 2-4

Caleb Gindl: 0-4, OF assist (see game log section)

Hunter Morris: 1-1, 3 BB

Halton: 1-4, 2B

Blake Lalli: 1-3

Kroenke: 3 IP, 7 H, 3 R/ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 57 TP (37 strikes), 4:0 GO:FO

Hand: 3 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K

Heckathorn: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

Sanchez: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K

Nashville PbP

Nashville had a chance to open the scoring in the 1st, but couldn't draw first blood:

Nashville Bottom of the 1st

-Scooter Gennett singles on a ground ball to right fielder Bryan Petersen.

-Caleb Gindl flies out to center fielder Gorkys Hernandez.

-Hunter Morris walks. Scooter Gennett to 2nd.

-Sean Halton pops out to shortstop Nick Green on the infield fly rule.

-Stephen Parker grounds out, second baseman Wilson Valdez to first baseman Ben Lasater.

Similar story in the 8th... and although he wasn't given a CS, Morris was the final out on a baserunning mistake. Gameday shows one pitch to Sean Halton labeled "ball in dirt"... must've been a throw down to first to try to catch Gennett, followed by Morris getting caught too far away from second. I'll post the actual explanation if I hear it:

Nashville Bottom of the 8th

-Defensive Substitution: Kevin Mattison replaces left fielder Matt Diaz, batting 6th, playing left field.

-Anderson De La Rosa grounds out, shortstop Nick Green to first baseman Ben Lasater.

-Scooter Gennett singles on a ground ball to shortstop Nick Green.

-Caleb Gindl strikes out swinging.

-Hunter Morris walks. Scooter Gennett to 2nd.

-Pitching Change: Jonathan Albaladejo replaces Zach Phillips, batting 9th.

-Hunter Morris out at 2nd, catcher Koyie Hill to first baseman Ben Lasater to second baseman Wilson Valdez.

Gindl showed off his arm to close the top half of the 9th & keep the deficit at three runs:

New Orleans Top of the 9th

-Koyie Hill hits a ground-rule double (2) on a line drive to right field.

-Wilson Valdez grounds out, second baseman Scooter Gennett to first baseman Hunter Morris. Koyie Hill to 3rd.

-Offensive Substitution: Pinch-hitter Matt Downs replaces Jonathan Albaladejo.

-Matt Downs flies into a double play, center fielder Caleb Gindl to catcher Anderson De La Rosa. Koyie Hill out at home.

And here's the lone run for the Sounds:

Nashville Bottom of the 9th

-Pitching Change: Chris Hatcher replaces Jonathan Albaladejo, batting 9th, replacing Matt Downs.

-Sean Halton doubles (1) on a ground ball to left fielder Kevin Mattison.

-Stephen Parker grounds out, second baseman Wilson Valdez to first baseman Ben Lasater. Sean Halton to 3rd.

-Cole Garner grounds out, third baseman Ed Lucas to first baseman Ben Lasater. Sean Halton scores.

-Blake Davis grounds out, shortstop Nick Green to first baseman Ben Lasater.

Final: Huntsville 3 Chattanooga 1

Welcome to Huntsville Andy Moye! Moye and 6'-8" righty Greg Holle combined on a 1 hitter to help Huntsville earn a split in today's double header and secure the series win. After allowing a lead off home run to Joc Peterson, Moye retired 18 of the next 19 including 13 in a row, allowing only a 1 out walk in the 5th. He also racked up 4 strikeouts over his 6 innings of work. Holle induced 3 ground balls in the 7th to earn the save. Moye was also in line to pick up his 1st hit of the season, lining a ball into right field, but Lookouts outfielder Blake Smith came up firing and on a close play, he was called out at 1st.

Huntsville Game 2 Box Score

For the 1st time in the series, Huntsville scored 1st. After shortstop Nick Shaw drew a lead off Shea Vucinich doubled. Jason Rogers followed with a walk and hot hitting Kentrail Davis came through with an infield single driving in Shaw. Brock Kjeldgaard drove in Vucinich with a sacrifice fly and gave the Stars a 2 run lead. Huntsville's only other hit was a T.J. Mittlestaedt home run, the 1st by a Stars player this season, in the 7th. The Stars actually drew more walks, 4, than hits, 3, in this game. What isn't going to show up in the box score are the 3 catches Kjeldgaard made leaping against the wall today to take away extra base hits.

Huntsville Game 2 Play By Play

With only a combined 4 hits and 5 walks between the teams, not a lot in the recap. Still really like what Greg Holle has done so far this season. More innings like this will only continue to help him work toward the big club.

Chattanooga Bottom of the 7th

Pitching Change: Greg Holle replaces Andy Moye, batting 9th, replacing Mike Walker.

Omar Luna grounds out, second baseman Shea Vucinich to first baseman Jason Rogers.

Blake Smith grounds out, shortstop Nick Shaw to first baseman Jason Rogers.

Bobby Coyle grounds out, shortstop Nick Shaw to first baseman Jason Rogers.

Game 5 of this series is set for tomorrow night. 6:15 Central start. Believe that Arcenio Leon will be starting for Huntsville.

Huntsville will play 28 five games series this season. 14 home, 14 away. Longest home stand, 10 games. Longest road trip, 10 games. 140 games in 151 days.
